  1. I truly LOVE the way the Brewers handled CC that Aug/Sept. It was the teams job to win & they tried to win/go for the series. They did nothing intentional to injure CC or do something they have to appologize for, but why should they keep him healthy for the team he signed with the next yr. There is no proof either way that more/less pitches per game hurt him. It didnt. They actually tried to win (something I wish this team would try more) every game.
  2. I am talkin GM rather than field manager (couldnt stop not knockin Gardy who's buggin me again) when I talk of this & I do stand by it. I take the Billy Beane approach (Moneyball book rather than movie) in they are assets/employees first....can be friendly with them also, but not friends to the point of affecting your judgement. Does NOT mean you dont treat them well as people/players. May have gotten my point across wrong. Happy employees are harder working employees mostly. Think you may be getting that idea from me (was bein a tad sarcastic)....I am defiantely not against treating players well....very well in fact. Treat them better than other teams do. My comments are from a front office view....who's job it is to run the company. You cannot refuse to make a move due to personel feelings for a player/coach etc. However, you HAVE to look at the treatment of a player & what the repercussions will be (dont think you can trade Josh as it makes players weary of signing a longer deal/fear of bein dealt for ex). Any player that cannot look at player moves from a front office (good or Bill Smith type bad ones) as bein business & not personal doesnt get the business.
  3. Is there anyone in Twins land that doesnt believe if we sign Liriano to an extension today, that we wont get the Lirinao of April for the next month?? I do, but I am intrigued by signing him but favor a trade & THEN resignin him this offseason as everyone will still be leary of him.
  4. Guthrie always a Twin killer in 8gm 6starts....4W 1L 2.70ERA 46.2IP 47h 28k 6bb always kinda liked him Am making a call....Twins sign him as a FA this winter. .264BAA & 4.12ERA (in hitters friendly BALT) before this yr
  5. Guthrie on road this year.....3.67ERA in 10gms 8starts 49IP 55h 27k 19bb. Not the worst numbers by far (be an ace here with that), but if COL was willing to just give him away for a pitcher for 2 months.....why wouldnt TR have called??
  6. Is Dick retarded with the thermomitre.....easily read UNDER 100 & he keeps harping on it......arrrrghhh Funny how they make fun of JGuthries pitching ERA/numbers but dont note how much better of numbers they are than Blackburn
  7. watching the game, this is the way I percieved it also. Just another play where Casilla doesnt do the correct thing but goin to the base & just allowing himself to be tagged. Did a good job allowing Span to get to 2B, but then screws it up. Its alwasy something with him......he's actually played pretty well this yr if you discount the BAve (fielding been great).
  8. A 'good' GM doesnt treat his players as humans with feelings, but as assets to the business. That's how you end up thinking your good friends like Torri Hunter will want to stay here & he instead chases the money & you end up with nothing. Gardy treats his players as buddies also instead of guys working for him/company....personally believe that thought process is why he's 5-22 in playoffs. He isnt hard enough on players prefers to be buddies. Teams talk of doin whats right for the players (pitch count, etc) when they shouldnt care about the player & do whats right for the team...ex MIL w/CC, pitching him 9IP every start to 150 pitches cause they knew they wouldnt resign him.
  9. completely forgot Hersen signed in 08....didnt play that summer. Wasted yr in service time. Another reason the new system is so good. Definately he gets added then. Also dont expect Fiens Walters (Options) & Deduno(options) to make it. Will be a lil unusual if MN keeps 4 Cs on 40 man (has happenned), so could Butera be moved?? Florimon is a 6yr FA if not added also....almost auto for me & reason I dont think Santana will be.
  10. Starting to believe they wont do anything & give the 'we think we can compete with this team if we just add a piece or 2'
  11. Think Salcedo's wasted yr saves him. Santana, Id be a lil surprised at his level but we dont have many INFs. Hermsen isnt needed for another yr, so he's good. I also agree on Bromberg but think Pugh will be added....Watts can be risked. Waldrop & Tosoni have had shots before & while they are definately possiblities, I see MN passing on em. They are not high on Waldrop....but have Gray/Fien on the team, go figure....& Tosoni has been severely passed. Arcia is a sure bet IMO as they're using an option yr regardless & get a free look. I expect he & Benson will get a lot of Sept time.
  12. unfortunately the 40 man roster is full right now & MN has never been very big @ releasing players to get a look at others in Sept. Aaron Hicks, Chris Herrmann, Kyle Gibson, Bruce Pugh & Dakota Watts whould be the 5 added to the 40 man this winter on their first shots. Pedro Florimon & David Bromberg I expect to get added also as they are 6 hr FAs. At this point, we may not see any of em if spots on the 40 man dont open. I would say Florimon, Hicks, Herrmann & Pugh are the frontrunners. I expect Tosoni, Nishi, Manship, Gray (PLEASE), Capps & Pavano to be 6 to be taken off. With the roster full, I would guess Arcia, Benson, possibly but not guarranteed Nishi/Valencia, Oliveros & Hendriks
  13. 28 gms in AA vs 55 in High A but already has scored more runs (27-22) & more rbi (32-31) Shows what a guy can do with Aaron Hicks/Chris Herrmann hitting ahead of him & Chris Collabello/Evan Bigley hitting behind. 10/36 off lefties is a great sign (.278BAve) w/.444slgg
  14. Dealing Loshe/Garza & Hardy all came down from the dislike of these players from the manager. At least now we have a GM with the nuts to tell Gardy, 'too bad' & make it work.
  15. He is a 6 yr minor league FA after this yr IF he is not added back to the 40 man roster....to which he has 2 option yrs remaining. One of my #1 per peeves with the organization is how they fail to promote their own prospects but continually give mulit-retread players a chance over them....Jeff Gray types....or let their own developed minor league players go while replacing em in AAA/AA with other teams castoffs....Yangervis Solarte/Dustin Martin for Wilken Ramirez/Clete Thomas for ex. I have no guess on what MN will do with him.
  16. wasnt unavailable at all......just ONLY available for a 9th inning save. Anything else, he's cant pitch. Pure Gardy, they lose it in the 8th cause of it.
  17. Burton has pitched 5 4out ballgames this year, but this one was different because Gardy refuses to use a closer for more than an inning. He tried it with Capps last year & it didnt work & will never attempt it again. This is the 4th time in the last 13gms that Gardy has overworked Perkins/Burton in games they were behind & were not available for games with the lead & Burnett blew those games....Alex should NEVER pitch in an important gm/inning as he's nothing more than a mop up type guy.
  18. can never have Clete Thomas or Rene Rivera close enough
  19. The Lehmann over Chris Hermann promotion is pure Twins. Tho Danny is condsiderd the orgnizations best defensive C, why is this a reason for a promotion (is anyone on that roster worth developing??) .225/.304/.310 in 68 AAA gms (213ABs) with a .211/.294/.268 line in 142gms (426ABs) in AA This is another reason how the Twins admit that AAA is about the hack players & they keep their important players in New Brit
  20. Amazed that everyone has forgotten the Liriano of last yr & of April/May this yr. Ive been on record that he HAS to be dealt but if they want to resign him this offseason, so be it....but he has to go now.
  21. Liriano isnt gonna take a 3/30 deal right now. this is his best negotiating ploy now....to not sign & go to FA
  22. But does a middle infielder HAVE to have no power/speed to be a middle infielder?? Isnt that a older philosiphy, or more so NOT a first round pick...2nd/3rd fine but I want plus tools from a first rounder. I love plate discipline and that is encouraging. For power also, Im not talking purely HRs but XBHs. Florida State Lg is sometimes hard to judge but a guy like Dozier was able to have 35xbh & 23 stls in 142gms there to Levi's 15 & 3 in 81gms.....tho Levi's 9 in last 36 is even to Doz's. I get that Brian was 23 when he got there, but wasnt a first round pick either. Just expect more from a first rounder, but it may be that 21 yr old Daniel Santana IS hitting in FSL (82gms 24xbh 12sb .287bave .400slgg no walks tho) so I dont like the age excuse as much Like I said, movin in the right direction is good
  23. For Baker next yr (or Pavano either) Im way willing to pay these guys in incentives but unfortunately they will take the most guarranteed money they can find AND then see about incentives. Id give both 5m + incentives (still less than Blackburn) & if they give me 32 starts, it is WELL worth it. Problem is, Im sick/tired of the same pitchers here & want change for change sake. Im willing to say (if I had a say) that Diamond/Gibson/Hendriks are in the rotation. Means we need 2 solid guys. Depends on what happens in the next 10 days in trades, but while I would love Grienke, an innings eater like Ed Jackson is very valuable.
  24. doin fine, BUT still doesnt seem like anything that resembles a first round pick/prospect yet. Isnt even outplaying Daniel Santana in Ft Myers. Better than it was in April/May tho
  25. From how we stand right now, Pavano will be back in AUG & get another 10 starts. If those go well, they will offer Pavano another contract or arbitration (1 yr deal w/incentives???) IMO. Dont love the idea, but what are your other options. Hendriks & Gibson are both gonna get real considerations next yr also & I havent ruled out Scot Baker back at a reduced/incentive deal. Cant truly look ahead till after seeing if we get anything at deadline for Frankie/Denard & whether we truly enter the FA race for the first time.
