  1. I won't put a lot of stock in PECOTA. They could be off on a lot of things. I don't like the shortening of games. The players need those games to ramp up. Love that photo of Kirby, getting ready to crank on a ball with that high leg kick.
  2. I have a feeling that Buxton can help Broxton find himself.
  3. I'd like to prove my point. Here is small snipet from the Tribune SID HARTMAN @SIDHARTMAN The Twins are 52-23 when Byron Buxton plays this season and 7-13 when he doesn’t. The center fielder is on the seven-day injured list for concussions, meaning he won’t play until Sunday at the earliest. This is a small sample size but it's indicative of the realization of 2 facts which I doubt anyone can dispute. #1 We win a lot of games w/ Buxton #2 We lose a good majority of our games w/ his replacements. I'm not bashing Buxton's replacements, they aren't CFers. There's a big difference between corner OF & CF. We have lost a lot of games though out the years when Buxton is out. I don't like to lose, we need to find a way to improve our odds drastically when Buxton need a rest or is out. Celestino has not played over high A, they say Lewis isn't ready & like to keep him at SS. So we need to get a replacement , at least temporarily, outside the organization. We can no longer say CF subs are not important and that Cave or Kepler is good enough
  4. I hope Broxton comes through and hit, even if he's average because we've lost too many games for too long with our Buxton's replacements. Cave isn't good enough and we need Kepler in RF.
  5. I'm a big fan of Astudillo. Last part of 2019, pitchers figured him out. He needed 2020 to adjust but of the shortened season and him coming down with covid he never had a chance. He was put in situations that he had no way to come out on top. 2021, he should have time to figure it out. He's a great contact hitter once he finds discipline.
  6. Pillar was just a suggestion. On the surface he seemed like a good idea. If you note I didn't mention Pillar in my prior post, just the problem that needed to be addressed.
  7. Thanks dbmin, for putting this information out there for us, I enjoyed it. I agree that we need to draft higher more impact middle fielders. It's alright to draft big bats/ no gloves but not to hord them.

  9. I like your bold ratings but I differ in opinion with especially the top 4. I liked Hicks a lot when he came up. He was a strong 5 tool player. My later assumption of him was that he wasn't a student of the game and not driven. I don't think he studied the opposing pitchers or adjusted his swing. At NYY they did everything for him. That's where Lewis is different. He is driven and a student of the game, he's hungry to better himself. He had a poor 2019 which he addressed as mental, he corrected it by gaining the cream of the prospects AFL's MVP and noted as the best hitter at St. Paul in 2020. Some don't like his high leg kick, many didn't like Puckett or Donaldson's high leg kick also. With his 5 tool talent and the Twins need, I place him #1. Jeffers and Larnach are out of college that's why they pass through the minors so quickly, some college prospects go right into the pros. Larnach and Kiriloff are close but I rate Kiriloff ahead. Most ratings go by potential. Jeffers has a very high floor but his ceiling isn't much higher but I agree with you he could be ranked higher.
  10. My thoughts also
  11. Thanks Cody for digging into this I was thinking the same thing. Of course I'd prefer May then Gonsolin. Their price will be high, Lewis is too valuable to consider and I'd want to keep Kiriloff, I wouldn't want to trade anyone who's under valued. But anyone else could be on the table. LAD is motivated to trade because of glut of SPs and of the luxury tax (they haven't signed their 3B which will add to it). They love to have a glut of SP but this ridiculous. I'm sure they'd focus on dumping their Price. They'd probably pay anyone to take him. If the Twins are interested they could also ask for Chris Taylor. Like Maeda they are very motivated to trade. Love to get May or Gonsolin (FO needs to drive a hard bargain and not cave again) but I'd settle for Price. This could be a great opportunity if FO could drive a hard bargain
  12. I give the Twins the edge but it'll be close. That's why we need to close any holes. FO has done a good job so far this year but I'm still concerned about our Buxton backups. When Buxton isn't playing we lose a good majority of our games. We need to find a different way to limit those loses
  13. I like your article and rational. FO needs to more involved in the trading market for one reason is to have control over the 40 man roster so we don't lose valuable prospects through Rule 5. And I think that's where real value is at. I've been interested in all 4 of your selections plus Castillo. All of them are on my radar. I'd rate them 1. Castillo 2. Gallen 3. Marquez 4. Gray 5. Hendrix Based on pretty much by your prerequisites. Trade wise it'll be costly for any one of them but will be well worth the cost if done right. I think even if these teams are not competitive any more they'll still resist trading them away. Gray or Hendrix being most likely to be traded
  14. Bauer has signed so Odo isn't too far behind
  15. I still think that an upgrade at CF back up is still our greatest need when you see we lose a good majority of games with Buxton back ups. Especially now that we've lost our best option in Wade. You tell me that you don't trust the #8 top of all starting CFs to sub Buxton for more than a couple of games and you rather trust a Rosario sub to sub Buxton for an extended time. Another thing that is hard for me to believe is how a #8 top MLB starting CF has a -14 DRS which is more indicative of the bottom 20%. We need to see why the drop from #3 to #8, maybe he was playing hurt. If that's the case it needs to be checked out. But if he hit better last year? Yes, we have a glut of big bat, no glove corner fielders. The idea of drafting them in the 1st place is to trade the ones we don't need. We got our rotation in good shape (we can still try to trade to upgrade before the deadline), BP in good shape, INF in great shape, offense in great shape. Again I state our biggest hole is CF back up. The #8 top MLB CF to sub Buxton and platoon LF on the cheap still seems like a good idea.
  16. I like Wade, he was our best CF replacement. I'm happy for him that he should get more playing time, wish him well
  17. Thank you Parker for breaking that down for us. The acquisition of Simmons coupled with Colome was great
  18. Fangraph CF 2019 defensive rating, Pillar is 3rd. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=cf&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2019&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 here's a video of some of his catches I just think we can do much better w/o spending that much. CF is important, When Buxton is in CF we're great, when he's not we have a losing record. That demonstrate how great Buxton is & how bad our back ups are. CF, SS & catcher are most important defensive positions. Let's say we have 1 good defensive catcher & we have a handful of options w/ Astudillo is our best backup. Do you really think that quantity is better than quality? Wade could be better if he played more, so could Astudillo at catcher. W/ Pillar in LF, Kepler in RF & Buxton in CF we can be creative. Have Pillar & Kepler play deep & have Buxton shallow enough where won`t run into the wall. Buxton could rob many shallow hits (like a rover). Again w/ Pillar we can be generous w/ Buxton giving him breaks in selected games. Ideally it'd be great if Buxton would be able to play 160 games plus all the post season games but nobody is superman (except maybe Pillar).
  19. After I posted the thread "The Twins greatest need", addressing the SS and CF lack there. Upgrade at SS and a better CF back up. I thought a super utility player (that can play SS, back up CF and hit above average) could do the job. But after looking at the options I changed my mind about getting 1 super utility player and go with the idea of getting an upgrade at SS plus a backup at CF. We got a fantastic SS upgrade, so what about a better CF backup? We could wait until Buxton get hurt and call up Lewis and see if he's ready. It's a viable option I suggested Kevin Pillar (Superman) and still believe that it could be the best option. He's a pretty good CF and even better LF. He's like Buxton but not as fast. He's a hard worker always giving his all and striving to better himself, he has risen his BA last year to .288. He could be used as a RH platoon at LF, relieve and back up Buxton and as a defensive replacement at LF. Right now he has no teams linked to him so he could come pretty cheap now or wait and trade for him when the need arises. I'm just saying we need to consider him
  20. I need help from my TD family again. I just got a free 10 days trial to Rotowire. I saw an article on top 400 prospects. The Twins prospects were pretty close to what I thought of course I thought some could have been higher but I was totally surprised by Duran. I'd rate him slightly ahead of Balazovic. But they had him as Twins#9 prospect barely making the top 300. Is Rotowire way off or has there something happened to him?
  21. Unfortunately Chris Archer signed with the Rays. I don't see any worthwhile starters out there we can afford. So maybe get a couple of relievers. Kintzler, Hill and Clippard are still available
  22. So happy to get this out of the way. Welcome back boomstick! Now we know where we stand, let's go out and sew this up
  23. IMO Ozuna isn't an option. Don't you think that he's waiting to see if there's an universal DH too. If we can't afford Cruz we surely can't afford Ozuna if it's official.
  24. Totally agree. All Stars Games is all political even if he does well, the odds he won't make. But wanted to draw attention for us to be surprised.
  25. Great article! Hats off to the FO, they saw the need found the solution and they let Simmons know that we're interested and sold the Twins. I'm excited about the addition of Simmons. Not only his talent but also the knowledge that he brings. I've felt the need for our SS prospects to get all the preparations that they need. I was concerned about Lewis being adequately trained at SS but now I'm not. Simmons has a lot to give and Lewis is hungry to learn. Lewis can pass that knowledge along. The fact that all the FAs that was linked to the Twins they didn't sign (hopefully Cruz is the exception) and those they did, weren't. Gives me some hope that they might be considering some FAs that aren't still linked to the Twins. Simmons will also inspire the rest of the defense to achieve an higher level
