    Had some good things happened. Kepler showed that he was faking it in ST, just to say April Fool's. Simmons had a good day hitting against a great pitcher Woodruff. Bad news Donaldson got hurt (hamstring is bad enough) after looking good at the plate. I don't understand why Baldelli blew the whole wad, using Duffy, Taylor, Robles and Colume' all up to the 9th. Having to put poor Dobnak in waters he's never been in.

    Was nice to see Do-Hyoung in the report. Nick said he wouldn't want to see Arraez at 1B, I was wondering why? Carew was moved there from 2B. I'd like to see him get as many ABs as possible, 1B seems like a good option. I'm just curious about his rationale because management seems to share it.

    I scratched my head after the Twins secured a spot for Garlic on the fragile 40 man while we already have a ton of great prospects on and off it that fit his profile. I'm not questioning that he deserves to be on the opening roster but aren't there greater needs.I've scratched my head on the FO infatuation with this profile of great bat and their best position is DH. Why do they seek them out and hoard them? I think I finally figured it out. I'm going to call this condition "David Ortiz phobia". Ever since the Twins FO suffered the shame of releasing David Ortiz, they have made it a point to never ever make this mistake again. They are scared to death of releasing or trading another David Ortiz so they over compensate because of this fear. Thus this imbalance of this area with other areas that is needed. This is only a theory.

    Cave is ok at LF, Buxton makes him look good. He beat out Kiriloff as LH platoon. But as Buxton replacement we should do much better. If want to compete.

    IMO LAD is the one that really expounds in depth. They put a lot of importance on depth especially on SS and CF, the crucial positions, where there is very little drop off in performance, 3 or so deep. This is what I desire for the Twins.

    To change the subject a little. I was expecting Pineda, Happ and Shoemaker would get in some tune up innings prior to the season. Pineda, yesterday; Happ, today and Shoemaker, tomorrow. Astudillo is a great hitter, this spring he has shown it. At 2nd half of 2019, the pitchers took advantage of his unwillingness to walk. Last year covid put him back where he didn't have the opportunity to really correct his plate discipline. But this year it looks like he has adjusted and is a better player for it. His defense is adequate for those positions he plays. His catching could use some improvement but it's fine in a pinch. Lin still impresses. My biggest disappointment was, why didn't they give Arraez any opportunity to play 1B? Carew when he was moved off 2B they moved him to 1B. Arraez seems more suitable there and he can get more ABs. I wasn't going to comment on LF but couldn't resist. LF was Cave's no matter what and Garlic was the best bat.

    At 1st I saw the low price, then I saw the incentives and thought not to bad, he could easily reach most of them. But then I thought it could be to appease him and be an another excuse not to give him the opportunity to rise. Really hope that's not the case. Dobnak has a nice story but that's not the reason I cheer for him. It's because he can help the Twins to win, his avenue to success is the Twins. Hope they can see that and take full advantage of it. To me Dobnak is as steady as they come. Go Twins.

    I think Waddell is a little bit better than Law but if there will be any one it'll be Law because he's out of options. I think this ST has shown us that Broxton isn't a PH candidate.

    I think that the Twins needs to take advantage of Dobnak while Donaldson and Simmons are both are healthy. And not wait until both are injured and then throw him in the rotation. Then complain how bad he is when balls go through the INF and he needs to change his game plan. I don't think anyone will hit 180 innings although Berrios should come close. I think Dobnak has just as much ability to reach higher innings as any other starter other than Berrios. Expectations on Shoemaker is that he wouldn't be able to pitch a ton of innings. Put Dobnak in the rotation and force the others to force him out. Competition is the name of the game. Qualifications should be on merit not politics. If there is a starting clause in both contracts, I guess that would make bad contracts even worse.

    Thanks Ted for that update. Good to see Adrianza doing well. Had hoped that Twins would've resigned him.

    Sano's HR is a great tribute to Mike. It'd be better if they'd won but sei le vie (pardon my terrible French). My opinion is still, we need at least 2 long relievers 3 would be better. I'm afraid that our BP could easily be over worked under these circumstances. A long reliever can take the place of 2 or 3 short.

    Very good article Matt, I enjoyed it. Because SS and CF is so crucial and demanding we need an excellent supply of players in the wings ready to be called to duty. But I'd wouldn't coin them as redundant because to me redundance is impractical, being deep in SS and CF is very intelligent. All elite teams are, always substituting starters with 1st class replacements, short or long term.

    Expect great things from him, which will translate into wins for the Twins.

    I'd give CWS the bottom 3 also and the top 3 are close. I listened to Nash Walker yesterday with him talking to his CWS counter parts. When they discussed the Happ acquisition, they became giddy because they were 14-0 against LHP. The whole division is RH dominated hitting. Pitching depth is where we have an edge. And if you put Dobnak in the rotation equation, I'd give him the edge. I'd say all the match up are pretty close and our depth could put us on top over the entire season.

    We're blessed to have such gifted players to playing at 2 of the most crucial positions. The problem is that there's a big drop off of talent when they aren't playing. Our success to arrive and advance in the PS largely is based on their health. Donaldson is also crucial and his health is very important. We need them all healthy for the PS.

    Dobnak has performed as well as any pitcher this spring, too bad they don't count. His ground ball ability together with acquisition of Simmons spells success. Now with his new found slider will cut down on his pitches and transformed him into a SO pitcher. In my book he's a starter, too bad ST games don't make a difference. Too bad Thorpe was sent down, still think he would be greatly used as a long reliever and spot starter starting this spring.

    I agree Kepler has to make the fielders honest by going the other way more often especially when he gets an outside pitch. Just to let them know they'll get burned if they keep it up. His BA could be much better.

    I think as some pitchers as they are being stretched out aren't pitching as well because they haven't got their stamina yet and will take some time to maintain that. It could be a problem in the beginning and throughout the season which supports the idea of bringing up 2 long RPs (Dobnak and Thorpe) I like Dmin's insight on Kepler, something needs to be done.

    I was thinking the same but I believe Berrios arm is pretty strong to hopefully avoid that problem. It might be the key to promote him to elite.

    FO basically put the chance in Kiriloff's hand and it didn't work out. I think Kiriloff will become the starting LF soon enough.

    Thanks Andrew for the positive news. Cruz, Berrios, Polanco and the BP have erased any negative doubt pertaining to them. Kepler will come around, he just needs to find his groove. It concerned me that he played CF in the prior game. He should have been left in RF so he could focus on his hitting and feast on BAL pitching, instead of adjusting to CF.

    Cave or Kiriloff haven't performed well. Rooker and Garlic have hit well in ST. Twins said they wanted to bring the best from ST, so that means that they should bring up Broxton. He has shown that he can hit as well playing great defense and speed. His talents will be very useful for us in LF, CF subbing, PR and late innings defensive sub. I'd leave the rest to Twins politics
