  1. Don't make it personal. You want to see him right now. I really like Culpepper and have stated so on many occasions. I just think he needs a little more time. You don't agree. It's no big deal. I know Tristan Gray isn't exactly a top reserve but he is a good ballplayer with a job (for now) in MLB. I cannot disparage him despite wanting the Twins to find better players. Better talent is a constant battle. I was ridiculed mightily (perhaps correctly) because I wanted the Twins to move on from Lewis and Julien in October of 2023. I wanted Wallner traded each of the last two years. We all see things differently and we want to see the Twins win. It's all good. We are just fans.
  2. Baseball has changed quite a bit in the last 2-4 decades. There are fewer teams and less leagues. The money is huge so organizations are understandably careful. There are so many differences that comparisons are too difficult. The best players still rocket up through the minors. Konnor Griffin was 19 on Opening Day.
  3. Player decisions are usually collective discussions based on a specific criteria. Players are called up when they are deemed to be ready. Culpepper is working on being more selective/ laying off of pitcher's pitches (just now he hit into a DP on a pitch he should have taken). I'm not too worried about Culpepper. I think he will be up by mid June.
  4. Mendez is having better plate appearances than anyone for St. Paul. Nevertheless, there are a number of specific skills Mendez is trying to hone in AAA.
  5. Excellent post. Just to add, I think we are starting to see a few umpires get a little cranky. Close pitch .... batter looks unhappy ... umpire tells the batter to challenge if they think they are correct. Of course, two challenges disappear pretty quickly when the batters get but hurt and challenge foolishly.
  6. If Buxton has to DH,James Outman has to play centerfield just as Victor Caratini has to catch quite a bit because Ryan Jeffers is out. The Twins are using Ryan Kreidler quite often but the options are limited. Both Emmanuel Rodriguez and Walker Jenkins are injured. The only other choice is Ben Ross. Kyler Fedko is a decent player but he will never see time in centerfield at the highest level. It's a tough situation. I wish Buck could play every day, but apparently he cannot post.
  7. This thread is almost a mirror image of all of the comments that praised Royce Lewis and said he was just a few swings away from stardom or the articles that wanted to explore a long term contract for Lewis. I'm sorry for those who have a Lewis jersey or t-shirt but baseball is just a really tough game to conquer. I have no doubt that Lewis works very hard and listens to voices of advice. Putting together decent plate appearances is a challenging job. People fail at baseball. I'm wishing Royce Lewis all the best in his life but I'm also ready to see him get an opportunity for a fresh look with another team. Who? That is a more interesting topic for me.
  8. The Twins are probably ready to move on from Royce Lewis. The problem is his value. What team sees Lewis as an important acquisition. Posters often point to players performing well in the minor leagues and there might be a team that sees those home runs and dreams of Lewis doing that for their team. June is coming up pretty soon and if Kaelen Culpepper can continue to hit and play a sound shortstop I believe the Twins will give him a call. Routinely people mention Marek Houston as the next long term shortstop. He looks smooth in the field. The offensive numbers for Houston are good but he doesn't look very good in the box, at least in my roughly 25-40 views of his plate appearances. Houston is at least 2-3 years away. When Culpepper is called up the Twins will have an opportunity to see if he looks the part of a major league shortstop. Hey, it may have at least a smidgeon of influence on the July draft pick as well (unlikely ... bpa).
  9. I'm going to take a positive view of what I believe is your main point - Mendez is showing himself to be a hitter. If you watch Mendez play you have to be at least slightly impressed with how he works to get on base or punish a pitch he finds to his liking; Mendez is good at the dish. Thus far Mendez has also played pretty decent in the outfield and has run the bases just fine. He is a good prospect. I hope he continues to improve in all phases of the game, including getting some time at first base. I don't believe it is necessary to compare Mendez to Emmanuel Rodriguez. They are different players with separate profiles. Finally, the Twins work with hitters to maximize their abilities to reach MLB. Sometimes they introduce changes but on many occasions they actually do leave players keep their swing. A hitter like Hendry Mendez doesn't need to make a ton of adjustments at. the plate. Like all minor league players they need to work on discipline and situational hitting. Mendez looks really good right now. We can check back in three months to see how he has progressed in all areas of playing baseball.
  10. The White Sox playing good defense is a different look than recent years.
  11. Twins playing baseball - fun group. Let's get some runs.
  12. Ryan is way too much for Rushing.
  13. Injuries happen. I'm sure the player is more unhappy about the setbacks than us fans. Talent plays and because Emmanuel will be out of options he will need to be on the 26 person roster next season unless he is traded. Having watched him a ton I would not bet against him finding success at the MLB level. Rodriguez has done well at all levels. I'm not worried about him. Hey, maybe he never gets injured again. I think the Twins will give him some time to show his skills or fail. That is how it goes with prospects.
  14. The Twins have reduced the mental mistakes .... for now ..... hopefully going forward as well. Clean baseball turns batted balls into outs. The Red Sox announcer was agog over that catch by Austin Martin. The degree of difficulty was extremely high with cold, wet, and windy conditions. One could question the route but only Martin lucky rabbit of a glove makes that catch. We keep seeing comments about trading Joe Ryan and Ryan Jeffers and even Byron Buxton. My stance on trades never changes very much - any deal must improve the team going forward. My curiosity makes me wonder what team will give what players to the Twins for Ryan. I am having trouble finding a suitor. The Chicago Cubs desperately need starting pitching. What can they offer? I'm not sure that Pedro Ramirez, Jaxon Wiggins, and Kevin Alcantara are better than what the Twins already have in their organization. I read the comments about trading these guys and want to know who is coming back in a transaction. Unless the players coming in a better than what we have, I'm holding my fellows. Give me names.
  15. You are not the only one who has asked about Lee at 2B. I'm not sure why some people think Brooks fits at 2B. Brooks Lee has always profiled best at third base. Second base requires a little better quickness and speed, which Lee lacks. He looks really good at third.
  16. Couple of thoughts: Is it possible that the Twins are feeling stronger about playing better defensive players than they have in the recent past? Are those making decisions looking for more accountability from certain players than was a past practice? Twins are playing baseball these days.
  17. The bullpen is working hard and the defense behind the pitchers is better. Martin, Outman, and Larnach all made plays in the outfield. Kreidler is playing a good shortstop right now. Outs mean everything to a pitcher. Caratini may be looking hapless in the batter's box but he has gone to the mound at critical moments, called a good game, catches the ball and makes the tag on those plays at the plate; huge. The boys are battling right now. I can agree there is not an All Star on the field today for the Twins but that was a gutsy, hard fought victory under really tough weather conditions. Give credit when it is due.
  18. FWIW, I never disparaged Rocco, but you might need to give a lengthy explanation of "horses" since the current roster was picked for the worst record in recent Twins play and that was before the loss of stalwarts Lewis and Wallner. Or .... did you mean the current set of coaches?
  19. Wow. That was fun. Most of these guys were not alive the last time the Twins swept Boston at Fenway Park.
  20. I was shocked they played at all. There was a mutual off day that worked, July 2, for a make up. It has been a good game but injuries can happen on this sludge.
