  1. I watch way too much minor league baseball and love Winokur. He is a classic one level per year advancement player. He has amazing physical skills and if he can harness the swing to create more consistent contact he is a star at shortstop, third base, centerfield, or wherever the manager places him. I cannot think of anyone more athletic. Patience will be necessary with Winokur .... 2028.
  2. Morris may need a little more movement on his pitches and a great changeup would help, but he should have already used up all of the ****** broken bat hits allowed in one career. He has consistently been 96-98 mph with well placed FB, so there is a path for him as a solid pitcher. The run yesterday scored on a hit just beyond the second baseman and the WP was a low pitch the catcher simply missed, it never hit the dirt; an easy call for a PB. In any event, despite too many hits given up this year Morris remains a very impressive prospect. I do not place anyone above him.
  3. Wallner seems to be slowly overtaking Royce Lewis as a darling on Twins Daily. Big Matt has his fans and that makes some sense for those who are wed to OPS and a few other data points. My feeling is that he is a legitimate option as a pure DH, if he only plays in the field once per month. I'm hoping Wallner becomes a star, but I'm more hoping that some team looks at Wallner as a player they are willing to part with a talented player that the Twins can use in the future. What club has eyes for Wallner? Hmmm, don't know. Maybe Pittsburgh. In the meantime, let us watch Wallner hit a few as a DH.
  4. Well, I was hoping theTwins could get a new fishing pole for Larnach at the trade deadline. I think they will just let him go because they are not going to pay him. Wallner could be exchanged for someone with potential. Maybe Jared Jones. I have repeatedly stated that Wallner should be a DH. I'm not ok with him in the outfield. I said either because the Twins should be able to find an advantageous trade using Wallner. The guy hits bombs and there are still teams that may pay big for that output.
  5. This article is the first time I had heard that people confuse Trevor Wallner and Matt Larnach. Seriously, I wasn't aware of that or the call to release either of them. Of course they have some value. They are both best suited to DH duty. Nelson Cruz, among others, made decent livings as a pure DH. The problem the Twins have is not something anyone on this board can control - both appear in the field too often. If you can guarantee that we will only see Matt once a month in the outfield, he can keep his glove. Otherwise burn it. I am fine with Wallner or Larnach as a DH, but neither belongs in the field. The pile of numbers/data may be a hook for another team to make a strong offer in an attempt to acquire Wallner. What other team needs bats but may have a tempting player to return to Minnesota? The Twins need to keep all of their options open as they try to rebuild the roster.
  6. At this point, if Emmanuel is healthy, he should play every day for the Saints. EmRod needs to find how to remain in games/ avoid injuries. I'm not questioning that he has been injured badly enough to be sidelined for long stretches, but rather hoping he can find a path/style of playing where he avoids these lengthy IL stints. Both Rodriguez and the Twins need to find out where he is in his development. My best guess is that Emmanuel meets up with the Saints in Louisville next Tuesday. He could bat leadoff for 18 games, DHing once per week and playing in the outfield five times per week. I'm hoping to see some ER plays.
  7. Stomach surgery to remove a parasite. Wow. I'm surprised he is back. He also looked pretty weak by the second innings of his outings with St. Paul. Seems like SWR is going to need some time to get healthy. I have to hand it to him coming back before he has recovered all of his strength. He definitely is too slim.
  8. This was excellent and best explains The Plan; who can know. Seems like the Twins could have bundled some of the relievers they traded for one of Harry Ford or Jeferson Quero. If you pile up enough solid resources (Varland, Jax, Coulombe, etc) there should have been a chance. If anyone out there has any idea what the Twins are doing in regards to building a team it would be instructive to read the explanation.
  9. ..... or, for that matter, since the day he was hired.
  10. Don't count the Twins out. They could still catch the White Sox. They have a four game series that will make a difference.
  11. That play (not made) was huge. I sort of feel sorry for Martin. He plays like he is going to get yelled at no matter what he does; so tentative, halting, and absent-minded. When I watch Austin Martin I see an athlete who could be a very decent baseball player, but I also see a severe lack of confidence and untimely lapses which doom him to a short career. Sports can be cruel.
  12. Tough to pick on a guy who hit 2 home runs ..... but yes, that was a very unprofessional plate appearance. Trying to pull a third homer on pitches well outside the zone was too bad to not note.
  13. The enjoyment of baseball (for me) resides in the plays, not wins or losses. Winning is great, losing is frustrating. A well placed pitch, a fine defensive play, a heads up running play, and a good plate appearance are what I'm seeking. The Twins have problems. The center of the problem (imo) is an ownership group that is disconnected. Thus free rein is afforded the front office and manager to pursue their vision of baseball. Now one must acknowledge that every person who has an affinity for baseball will have their view, but only the guys in charge get their wish. I cannot understand what The Plan is for the Twins. Under current leaders they have consistently fielded slow, defensively challenged teams that do not understand how to run the bases and are not aware of situational hitting. There are plays made in virtually every game that are positive so as a baseball fan I have many options and opportunities to enjoy the games. That includes other teams, many minor league games, and the Twins. Until the Pohlad family takes an active interest in their corporation, The Minnesota Twins Baseball Club L.L.C., there is unlikely to be much change in the way the team is run. Of course, some feel the team is run just fine. Some feel 2026 will be magically different. The play by Brooks Lee last night, the throw by Gasper, and the home runs were enjoyable to watch. The current Twins team is the worst in baseball at this time, but there are still moments to enjoy in every game.
  14. Been asking for that since October of 2023 when his stock was sky high. Great talent n 2017, but sh*t happens and then it is time to move on.
  15. Nice play by Brooks Lee. We have to enjoy what we can. The Twins are the worst team in baseball at the moment and next year is shaping up as a 100 loss campaign. This will test the resolve of all Twins fans. Enjoy the small things. It sure was a beautiful day today.
  16. I'm not assuming the rules in the next CBA remain the same, you are. I think there will be some changes made. It's just two viewpoints. We can both be certain of one thing - we don't know what changes will be made within the next CBA.
  17. If he is ready and healthy next March, Walker Jenkins should be in the starting lineup for the first game of the year. Nobody knows how the CBA will be tweaked at this time. So if that is what you mean .... the answer is yes.
  18. Everyone is frustrated with management and the direction of the team right now. Please explain what happens to Byron Buxton if Walker Jenkins proves he is ready for MLB and is on the opening day roster next season. You seem to feel he must play centerfield. My thoughts are that the Twins pitchers desperately need as many strong defensive players in the field as possible. Walker Jenkins in left field with Byron Buxton in centerfield is better than the reverse .... for the pitchers. A few other players come to mind. Corbin Carroll and Jarren Duran are both decent in centerfield but their teams see them as far better suited to the corner outfield and thus they use stronger defensive fielders in CF.
  19. Well .... you could be correct. If you are we can expect a race to see if the franchise record of the 1904 and 1909 Washington Senators teams will be broken.
  20. The Twins lost more than 90 games from 1997-2000 and again from 2011-2014. The low points in Twins history as far as losses were 102 in 1982 and 103 in 2016. Calvin's teams lost 90 or more games in 1961 and then we he ran out of money in 1982 and 1983. This coming offseason will be important if the Twins are to successfully rebuild the team to escape being a perennial losing team. The hope is that a few teams value certain Twins players enough that the Twins acquire the needed talent to rise again in 2-3 years. New management is a must just as it was when the Twins turned away from the Billy Gardner and Ray Miller era.
  21. I'm not sure how many games you have watched that include Walker Jenkins in centerfield. Someone who has watched him play in person a couple of dozen times could better answer how Jenkins looks in the middle of the outfield. I have seen him play about 50 times via milb.com (games, not highlights). I think Jenkins is ok as a centerfielder. He doesn't look as good as Emmanuel Rodriguez but he has been fine. It sure would be super uplifting to have a Jenkins, Buxton, Rodriguez outfield for the pitchers. At some point Buxton will either be moved to a corner or his contract runs out. I'm not sure how Byron views playing somewhere other than centerfield. It would not be a bad thing to have Walker Jenkins playing a good left field and hitting .300. FWIW, pretty much most scouts viewed Jenkins as a corner outfielder at some point but stated that he does a decent/passable job in centerfield. So left field has always been the projection.
  22. Which is why he should be the every day DH. The alternative is finding a team that likes him and his bat and will trade a significant player to acquire him.
  23. It is not about how the team plays. The hope, perhaps both ironically and tragically, is with the Pohlads. Can they take an interest in their team? If they do, both Falvey and Baldelli are gone. If they continue to ignore everything, then nothing changes in management. It is as simple as that.
  24. The pitchers cannot succeed with a group of guys behind them that cannot make plays. Yes, the Twins need some power hitters. There is a place for Wallner, DH. Let Wallner be a full-time DH. The other side of the coin is that there may be a team that craves Big Matt on their team and are willing to part with a multi-talented player for him.
