  1. No complaints from me if it works. If at first you .....
  2. Royce has lost any trade value so the Twins need to see if he can recover some skill. He will get playing time until at least mid June. One wonders if he (mysteriously) lands on the IL and gets sent to Ft. Myers to attempt a complete reboot. Doesn't hurt to see what can occur.
  3. Stumbled onto Gleeman when he had a counter on his page in his first year blogging. I'm afraid he became a little overly concerned with payroll and owners. Yes, these are important but we don't get a choice and once one makes their point several times .... move on. My unhappiness with Pohlads began in 1984. I have let it go. Wish him luck. The stories of the smell of Chinese food in his mom's basement were funny.
  4. Ross is an interesting player. He is a good base runner and can provide slightly above average defense all over the field. Ross can also drive the ball into the gaps and over fences. Perhaps he is getting better at reading pitches because the one shortcoming (imo from watching him the last few years) is that Ross takes a large number of wild swings and can get caught guessing at times. However, coming from a small college Ross faced quite a change as a professional player and everyone learns at different speeds. The physical skills are decent and he could become quite a valuable utility player if he can control the strike zone in his plate appearances. He looks more confident this year.
  5. To some extent the July trades may have hinted at a lack of confidence in the Twins young pitchers (Woods Richardson, Matthews, Festa, Morris). If your reputation was supposedly connected to building a strong pitching cohort it seemed odd to go to extreme lengths to add pitching prospects (Abel, Rojas, etc.), while jettisoning established and controlled relief pitchers (Duran, Jax, Varland, Stewart). The trade of the out of favor Griffin Jax for Taj Bradley, at least, brought back an interesting albeit struggling pitcher. I tend to never think of trades in terms of wins and losses but prefer to see how a transaction improves the roster, whether that is to improve balance or talent. I'm not sure Falvey (or whomever was in charge) had all of their wits about them last July. Thing is .... the Twins did gain a few players who could help the team (Bradley, Abel, Rojas) and I'll just hope these players progress quickly and become important for the Twins. What is gone ain't coming back.
  6. Dasan Hill looked decent yesterday. There is quite a climb from blowing away high school hitters to pitching (control & command) at the professional level. Starting in A+ ball, the bats don't bite as much and walks can be a problem. Hill looks good and he should progress quite a bit at Cedar Rapids. He just needs innings to work on his skills.
  7. t's a long season and while the Twins are seeking bullpen help from where ever they are not likely to make position players changes for another 2-3 weeks. Kreidler is basically a RH Outman but the Twins are not using Outman much. It is a little sad that we feel good if Lewis can get his bat on the ball. Wallner is also struggling badly. Both will get more time though. The Twins are in a tough place with those two right now. Culpepper is doing good things but still needs more experience. Maybe Arcia but I think he got injured. Marco Raya has looked better recently after a brutal start to the season. Miami and Milwaukee play the speed game and pressure the defense at every opportunity. These next games should be a good test of how well the Twins can play fundamental baseball and restrict their opponents from dictating the play.
  8. Rojas pitched well. The young lefty could certainly use a little better command but his stuff is hard to square up. Funderburk does struggle versus LH hitters with too many walks. Something tells me he is back after an IL move (Topa?).
  9. The dream is to have 5-6 starting pitchers last through the 162 game slog. The reality is that teams will almost all use a dozen starting pitchers. You left off a couple of guys who have already worn the Twins uniform, Andrew Morris and Kendry Rojas. They were not really expected to be needed until later in the year or many saw them as relief pitchers (similar to Connor Prielipp) but they are and will be in the picture. Pitching is hard on the elbow and shoulder (with a side note to include pectoral muscles). Almost every team suffers from the same fate - will the starting pitching hold up.
  10. That is not too far off from the expected 72 wins. FWIW, I have raised my prediction from preseason 71 to 77 victories for the season. Realism is hard for us Twins fans.
  11. Bradley has thrown more than 90 pitches in all eight of his starts. The number of pitches is almost always less important than stressful long innings. Pitching is hard on every arm. Even the soft tossers get arm injuries. There is no evidence that Taj was injured from throwing too many pitches. Bradley had a similar injury when he was with Tampa Bay. Maybe his pectorals are his weak link. No use in speculation. The Twins like every team are very careful and watch their pitchers closely. Some college coaches were negligent once upon a time with pitch counts over 140 as a regular matter. Most did not abuse the pitchers. It is virtually impossible today because players can simply say no and transfer to another school. Professional baseball clubs are very careful because of the huge money invested. I can't remember the last time a pitcher threw over 130 pitches. Nobody needs to be concerned in the least about the Twins overworking a pitcher.
  12. Great win for the Twins. The team plays hard, that much can be said. Baseball can be hard with so much difficulty finding success.
  13. Seems like that will happen, as you say, "at some point". My guess is that a few moves are made in June. It is still early and the players are working on specific things even as they push for promotions. The most obvious hole to fill for the Twins is at 3B. The club is going to give Royce at least another 4-6 weeks. Wallner has bought himself more time as well. Late July could be interesting in terms of roster churn. I know people are hoping for a quicker pace of change but the guys down below aren't quite ready and the players not performing are being given their shot. Many people want Outman gone but he is a seldom used player. It doesn't make any sense to bring up someone from AAA and sit them all week. Injuries are also a factor. Marek Houston has sat out the last couple of games. He looks like he could move up in June. Certainly, Emmanuel Rodriguez is set back again (thumb). Seemed like a late May was possible but that gets pushed back.
  14. Good call. Most ready is more correct. I was thinking only of guys likely to get a call in early June. Rodriguez and Jenkins are on IL. I'm higher on Jenkins but Walker needs a couple of months of repetitions at the plate. That was a spectacular catch he made where he was injured. Any comments on Jenkins being fragile are misinformed. He plays hard and injuries happen. Considering the money teams invest in players it is quite surprising that all fences are not fully padded to reduce impact. Would put Kaelen just ahead of Emmanuel. I have liked how each of these guys are working to get better.
  15. Fell asleep during Saints game. One wish for Culpepper - he needs to work on taking some pitches out of the zone. Kaelen hits most everything but preparation for MLB might need to include being more selective. Despite the lower average Culpepper is easily the best Saints player.
  16. Ok, there are people that want the Twins to trade players. Who? Realistically there may be interest from other teams in Jeffers, Buxton, and ??? among position players. Buck has a ntc. Perhaps there is minimal interest in Martin or Keaschall. Instead of screaming, suggest what team will send something worthwhile for one or more of the position players. Will these guys be better than the prospects in AAA? I'm not privy to any interest from any team. Trades are rare early in the year. What pitchers are you trading? Ryan? Let us know what team and what the return is. Are people wanting to trade Bradley, Abel, or Prielipp? The window is closed for right now. Perhaps after the All Star Game there will be renewed discussions and texts sent and phone calls made. I'm all for any transactions that makes the roster stronger but the team is already pretty stripped down. Now the coaches and managers are finding out who will fend off the next wave, improve, or wind up elsewhere. Thinking teams will send the Twins a starting infielder for James Outman or Simeon Woods Richardson is out there. You want change? Put your specific ideas in the comments.
  17. Professional athletes receive a fair amount of public relations training these days. The world is watching and so how a person handles social media, interviews, and their general public appearances can be a bit much for a young person. While I was successful in my mid 20s I never had people watching my social life and constantly asking me questions. Royce Lewis has led a charmed life and now it seems to be flaking a little bit. He seems to like to talk, so Audra interviews him about his struggles and thoughts, which may be normal to athletes but most will just give canned answers. Lewis doesn't exactly sound poised. Kent Hrbek said that every punk in camp wanted his job and left it at that without elaboration of any real substance. Royce should probably reduce the noise in his world to focus on his job. However, each fellow is different. Perhaps Royce Lewis should take a page from Connor Prielipp. For those of you who saw his post game interview you know what I mean. It was an instant classic. One word answers without any expression that ended with Prielipp answering "OK" when Audra said, "Well, you should go celebrate with your teammates."
  18. Joe Ryan does have a say in his future. He is from California. What would you do? Ryan doesn't need any more money. He needs to work wherever he chooses. My guess it is as simple as that.
  19. I wondered if anyone had seen any comparisons between Cholowsky and Brooks Lee? When Lee was in college he was a 50 run mark, where Cholowsky sits at a 45 run grade. Cholowsky grades higher now as a fielder than Lee did in 2022.
  20. Keith Law has his first mock pick up today. He has White Sox taking Emerson, Rays taking Cholowsky, and Twins taking Lackey. Sounds like it is a four player list for top of the draft.
  21. All three are injured. Culpepper is playing through an injury as the Saints DH.
  22. Yah, I'm hoping against hope. Right? Banda will give way in a few weeks to .... anyone.
