  1. I am really hoping for Kolek.
  2. This is an interesting idea. I can't see that the big boys would go for 3. That would potentially mean someone is picking their first guy at 60. Maybe you lower it to 2 and if a team signs two, their first pick in the draft portion is skipped but they would get a chance to grab another guy after the first round of the draft portion. I like the idea you have proposed.
  3. At the time, I really wanted pitching. I was hoping Gausman. IIRC, Zimmer was interesting because he had just started pitching that season or the season before. Gausman was polished coming out of LSU. Appel, to me, reminds me of Mark Prior. I think he is good but IMO Gausman might have a better overall career than Appel. I will be the first to admit that I really wasn't in favor of grabbing one more toolsy OF. I loved getting proven wrong. After seeing a season of this draft class, I love what Buxton means to the Twins. Not that Gausman, Appel, Zunino, and Zimmer among others won't be good, I think they will have nice careers and maybe a few all star games. The hype around Buxton is amazing. When you hear comps that his floor is Hunter, you know we nailed that pick.
  4. I know opening day tickets have been on sale for a while now but does anyone know when the rest of the season goes on sale? There are a lot of really good seats left for opening day. I wonder if the Twins are worried that will be a precursor to things to come if they don't start winning.
  5. I would say pass on them both. I get the interest in Yoon. I don't see any interest in Waring. Why would we want a poor man's Mark Reynolds when we wouldn't and didn't want Mark Reynolds?
  6. I have caught two during the course of a game and countless thrown to me in either bp or when they are coming into the dugout. We were in KC a few years back and my wife and I had seats in the first row right on top of the Twins dugout. I don't know how many third outs were made at first base while the Twins were on the field, but I think my wife got all of them. She happened to be wearing a Morneau jersey at the time and there were really no kids by us and a lot of Royal fans. Good thing Morneau was throwing them to her because I would have been embarassed dropping one with my butterfingers.
  7. Didn't he have an alter ego name? I can't think of it off the top of my head but I don't think a guy like that is a good fit for our clubhouse (or any clubhouse). We need to be trimming guys like this off of the 40 man and not adding them to it. Pass.
  8. I was thinking he would start in AAA. Would anyone else be shocked if he started the season in AA?
  9. I hope that picture wasn't taken inside the Metrodome because we were all told that there was NOOOOOOOOO smoking inside the Metrodome from Bob Casey.
  10. This is a great thread. I can't argue with anyone's list. Someone previously mentioned Johan's 17 K game. I was lucky enough to be in attendance for that game. As it got later into the game, it was louder and louder. It was a better atmosphere than the playoff games I was able to attend. I am a little embarrassed to admit that I had 6 tickets to game 163 that I didn't get to use. Before you crucify me, I live in SD and that night my fiancée and myself met with our priest to discuss our upcoming wedding. We were able to attend game three of the playoffs which happened to be the last mlb game played there. To top off that evening, we drove 6 hours home in a blizzard. I remember how Bob Casey's voice rang out the first time I heard it and who could ever forget "NOOOOOOOO Smoking". I remember being in awe of the huge size when I attended my first game as a 6 year old. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIN/MIN200708190.shtml
  11. Does this amp up the search for a catcher now? How soon will they sign a John Buck or Kurt Suzuki?
  12. Wasn't Miguel Sulbaran acquired for Butera?
  13. Didn't that just happen this summer with Adam Rosales? Oakland optioned him, Texas claimed him, Texas optioned him, Oakland claimed him, Oakland optioned him, and Texas claimed him and finally kept him on the 25 man roster. http://espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/story/_/id/9560888/adam-rosales-claimed-texas-rangers-second-10-days?ex_cid=espnapi_public
  14. I like the premise behind the system too. I just wish they would have incorporated the ability to negotiate based on the reverse winning percentage that had been discussed. I would have guessed Houston or the Cubs to throw enough money at him to sign him. That would have been as close to a "draft" as you are going to get with the Japanese players.
  15. I would take a shot on Hudson or maybe even Gavin Floyd or Jeff Neimann. Those guys have had success at the major league level and have had injuries. If you can get them for a cheap deal, I am in. I also like the idea of a Michael Young or Franklin Gutierrez. Solid veterans who could be role players.
  16. I would have thought the A's would have gone with an internal option to close in either Cook or Doolittle.
  17. Other than the money, what was intriguing about a team coming off three consecutive 90+ loss seasons?
  18. I agree with Mike. I would take a flier too. I love the speed aspect of his game but you need to be on base to utilize it. I don't want him learning from Segura on stealing first base.
  19. I am not very high on Johnson due to his injury history. I would be happy that the Twins signed him if they also sign one or two other pitchers. If he is the only signing, I would be pretty disappointed.
  20. Detroit got 15 outs last night via strikeouts and lost the game. We definitely don't want strikeout pitchers. <sarcasm>
  21. I think Terry Ryan likes to use the line from Full Metal Jacket when negotiating with free agents. "Five dollars is all my mom allows me to spend." Basically, I have a better chance of being in the rotation than Tanaka and I was the 4th man in a two man rotation in little league. I did have the dream once that they would actually pursue him hard and be in the running, but then I woke up. It wont happen.
  22. Exactly my thoughts too. See the 2001 Mariners.
  23. Why not? They are out there battling their tails off every night. Gardy tells us so. I agree 100%. I don't want them back either.
  24. Maybe they will just shuffle coaching positions like they did last year when Vavra and Ullger were reassigned. Maybe they can reassign someone into the roll of pitching coach. Lord knows they won't "fire" anyone.
  25. Here is an even harder question to answer. What went right for the Twins this season? 1) Brian Dozier's emergence 2) solid bullpen pitching 3) Minor League success 4) Progression of Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Pinto to name a few.
