  1. Tough night for Berrios. Can't be giving up a 3 run lead like that. Twins will have to continue to scrap to get this one in the 'W' column. (again, don't let Castro bat with ducks on the pond again please)
  2. And I don't think anyone, including me, thinks he should be a primary catcher. But to say he shouldn't be back as a backup, or that he has performed poorly this year as one suggested, just doesn't make sense to me.
  3. I can't understand the intense dislike for Astudillo around here. Maybe I'm biased, but he was hands down the most popular player in Rochester last year and this. And he hit over .400....and was a sparkplug in the dugout from his very first AB. When he came up to Minnesota he was hitting everything. Yes, he has slumped a bit lately...but so have many others...and certainly Castro isn't contributing anything offensively. The Turtle can play 1st, 3rd. catchj and the outfield. And the fans love him. His teammates love him. And you don't want a guy like this back? Really?
  4. At least Astudillo puts his bat on the ball and things happen. Castro just looks at strike 3. Arraez seems to be criticized here for not having any power. I wonder how many players this year have sustained a BA of between .340 and .350 for 300 AB's....let alone a raw rookie who wasn't even supposed to be at AAA this season? He has great bat control. Don't know what more anyone is expecting from this kid? Perfection? What an asset he has turned out to be.
  5. If we are still trailing the next time Castro is due up, and there are men on base, I would pinch hit either the Turtle or Garver for him without battina an eyelash.
  6. There are some who continue to feel Astudillo has no value, but Castro is a total liability at the plate. I don;'t think his 'd' is enough to justify playing him when he can't hit a lick.
  7. BAd second inning for Berrios...but should have had that out at home. Did he miss the tag or was it that he dropped the ball? We know Cleveland doesn't plan on losing anymore games so its up to us to not fall behind early like we seem to be doing a lot. Only two runs, if Berrios can return to form.
  8. I don't know...this really sounds like you just don't like the guy. He hasn't set the world on fire but to say he's fared very poorly is a judgement that I don't think we all share to that extent. He brings intangibles to the clubhouse also that you can't measure by all the zillions of metrics that are now littering the landscape of baseball. He has value and we may yet see it. Let's try not to speak in such absolutes about a guy who has contributed to the mix. Tell you this much...in a tight spot where we need someone to put bat on ball, would you rather have Castro, or Cave or Schoop up there? Maybe not.
  9. Other than splitting catching duties between the super hitting Garver and the non hitting Castro, it seems like a large part of the 'rest' has been due to injuries, doesn't it? Cron, Kepler, Cave.,Sano, Astudillo...those guys have all been sidelined with one ailment or other which needs days off to heal. I wonder what things would look like if those guys were totally healthy all season? The injuries have really affect4ed their performances. The injuries really didn't affect the team badly until September...and then it has been an avalanche. I hope they guys are ready by post season, but I doubt Kepler, Adrianza, and even Cron will be able to play full tilt (if at all) The 'reserves' are really getting a chance to prove their worth
  10. Although it makes me uneasy every night...its probably good that Cleveland keeps winning. It forces the Twins to play at a high level and not slack off. The teams that are high energy going into post season often do quite well...rather than teams that have had nothing to play for, over a long time (Tampa Bay Lightning anyone? Maybe the Dodgers?) Clearly Twins can't really take a night off, even against terrible opponents.
  11. The 'Red Wings Three'....making a splash for the Twins. They took the best of what we had and are making it work. (Romero....they can discard)
  12. That trade was the worst move the Twins have made this season. This guy was pitching hurt before arriving and hiding it well. Once he got here, he simply fell apart. And we lost a real good prospect
  13. Whew! Great inning by May. So Rocco guessed right tonite! Big win and magic number is 5 and a shot at 100 wins is still possible.
  14. I thought maybe Duffey would get the shot. But we'll see. This is a huge situation and Twins need this game. One out to get....come on May. Bring it home.
  15. amazing how the anatomy of a disastrous inning begins....with an error and a walk...followed by a young rookie pitcher who can't get anyone out. What seemed to be an in the bag game for the Twins has nearly come undone. they will take a slim lead into the 9th in all probability....unless they can score something in the 8th.
  16. and thats how you get out of an inning without throwing too many pitches. He'll get the 5th now for sure...(right???)
  17. I hope Dobnak can go at least 5 tonite...better 6. But we won['t get ahead of ourselves. He is not quite as sharp but still recording outs. Thats what matters. I hope Eddie was watching closely the way the old guy legged out that double. Hustle all the way.
  18. Are LaMarre and Torreyes even eligible? I don't think so. I'm in favor of 13 position players and 12 pitchers. (3 starters and 9 in the pen) If they can't get it done with 12 pitchers, they probably don't belong in post season. Hindenburg, Harper and Romero are definite 'no's'. Position players: Miller is a no. Cave might be on the bubble, as is Astudillo and Wade. But if our injuries don't heal, we will need them all. Kepler, Cron and Adrianza may not be ready to play full out. Cave has stopped hitting. Castro has stopped hitting. Cron has stopped hitting. And the Turtle is struggling. Choose the poison. I want the most versatile players in a 5 game series.
  19. Great story. Helps us all regain some perspective. Major props!! I doubt the Twins were planning on re-signing him even before his disastrous appearances. I believe they wish to move on. Could he help another team? Perhaps. What I remember most about his Twins career was our saying before each start...do we get good Gibson or bad Gibson tonite. He was very inconsistent. I think he's done for this season though.
  20. One person mentioned it...Puig. He's another one who marches to his own drummer, but he also hits a ton and often in the clutch. Machado drove us O's fans nuts with his lack of hustle and apparently it continues to some extent. Do you bench him now and jeopardize all the rest of the team in the heat of a pennant race? No. Does someone with authority sit him down and read the riot act? And one or two of his peers as well? Yes. Absolutely...just like Puig's teammate did. Lack of hustle is not good for the sport. But you will continue to see it. We take the good with the bad when a pennant is on the line unfortunately. We've already seen what damage Pineda's stupidity has cost the team. Hopefully Eddie matures. Maybe hi will, or maybe this is who he is and Twins have to decide whether he's good for the organization or not.
  21. I'll give him this...he's a gamer. And finally a 1-2-3 inning. Now for some insurance please.
  22. holy cow....Thorpe again???? Is our pen that thin:????? Playing with fire for sure.
  23. I think the diving outfielder got in front of the guy trying to catch Sano's hit and distracted him just enough. A gift that we will gladly take. NOW....we need that shutdown inning. Can anybody do It? The game is moving along smartly at glacial speed. good to be ahead again.
  24. Garver answers back. We're tied.
