  1. looks like Gallo and his .178 BA and massive strikeout total is hanging around. The real question is...why?
  2. FWIW--is Cano becoming Pagan? He came on to preserve a 2-1 Orioles win against Philly last week (Bautista had the night off) He blew the save and the game. Sunday he came on in the 9th of a game the O's led 9-3...no pressure, struck out the side. Last night he came on in the 8th of a 4-1 O's lead. Immediately gave up a HR and then walked 2 of the next 3 hitters, forcing Hyde to bring in Bautista for a 5 out save. Lately, when it matters, Cano has flamed out. Inability to throw strikes besides right down the middle has really hurt Cano. He is no longer a reliable late set up man in close games. Twins hardly need anymore pitchers like that.
  3. Gallo has 17 HR's but how many have come in crucial spots over the past 4 or 5 weeks? His defensive abilities can't remotely compensate for his terrible plate appearances. How hard is it to find an major league ballplaer who can hit more than .175 and not strike out once every 2 AB's or worse. If Twins do nothing else (and I hope thats not the case) they must part ways with Gallo and open up the roster spot.
  4. for a short while we had that 4 game lead over cleveland and looked like finally we were going to pull away. Then in a flash, it was gone.
  5. I think it was totally fitting that the 3 game sweep ended with (hopefully) Gallo's last futile AB as a Twin. A strikeout on a 3-2 pitch naturally. There is no way he stays on this team anymore. However there were goats galore during this sad 3 game set with lowly KC. The team collectively is totally out of sync right now. But hey they fanned 'only' 9 times today. What moves will they make in the next 24 hours? Team looked positively awful this weekend. Honestly didn't see this coming, even after the two trainwrecks in Seattle. f
  6. well that sure was no fun. There has been zero pitching during this 4 game losing streak. With of course the usual two standby's..the k and the Correa Special...the rally killing GIDP. still, 7 runs normally should be plenty to beat a team with only 30 wins. Instead our staff has allowed 18 runs in the 2 games with KC so far. Buck was 3-3 and Kepler with 2 more extra base hits. Has Gallo packed his bags yet??
  7. This is what a closer does. Bautista comes in and throws 11 pitches...2 k's and a fly out. Santander launches a monster HR in the bottom of the 9th and O's do what Twins couldn't do...break the 2 game losing streak. Twins just can't lose games like they have lost in these past 3. Pitching has really let them down..the guys who are expected to do the job. Offensively they are still k'ing way too much, but they are also scoring runs. With better pitching any of the last 3 losses could have been reversed.
  8. Duran ruined what could have been a nice comeback win. Well..over in Baltimore, Cole was shutting down the O's over 7 innings. O's starter threw zeros too. Cano came on in the 8th and left after getting 2 outs and giving up a hit and a walk. Another unimpressive outing for him. He has really lost control of his pitches (like Duran). Game to the 9th 0-0.
  9. when you come in late, your job is to throw strikes, Duran pitched like total crap tonite and paid the price. Ugly loss. Instead of going after the batters, he nibbled and missed and served up the game on a silver platter. The 3-2 pitch to Witt was a nothing pitch right down the middle to complete the embarrassment. Just a lousy way to the end the night. I don't want to hear any hearts and flowers from Rocco. Thats 3 losses in a row and lots of runs against.
  10. Something is definitely wrong with Kirilloff. Suddenly he looks totally lost at the plate. Meanwhile Kepler is still getting on base. Polanco also looks very rusty. Lucky he got hit by pitch...looking very much like he was heading for this 3rd k. And Wallner gets totally robbed of at least 2 RBI with a huge play by the 1st baseman. Still 2-1.
  11. absolutely brilliant strategy ! Twins knew Gallo would strand the runners by striking out so they executed a perfect double steal to get in the go ahead run. And thats no joke. Gallo is just swinging a fly swatter. No way he makes contact with all those low and inside pitches that are nowhere near strikes. God love him but this really needs to be his last game. He is a wasted spot in the lineup. Meanwhile more trends: Kirilloff has become a k machine this week. Jeffers and Kepler are hitting machines.
  12. I am twitterpated just thinking about these things.
  13. next few days (heck hours) should be fun! For me, injuries have played a big role in what may or may not happen. Lots of key guys are out or can't play to the level expected. So if you unload Kepler now, who realistically takes his place and makes THIS YEAR'S team better. If you feel you can get to post season now, you go for it. (nobody on this planet expected the lowest seed Florida Panthers to upset the NHL's best team in history in round one) Play to get in and you just never know..except possibly the Twins who haven't won a playoff GAME in years!🙄 But I digress. Twins lineup always seems to be just one trip, stumble, tweak or sprain away from losing guys for long stretches. So its good to have replacements ready to go. Other than dumping Gallo, I'll be surprised if Twins do much of anything at the deadline. And of course, I won't be surprised if I'm totally wrong! So--what will be have with Polanco when he returns? Will Buxton ever snap out of his season long malaise? Will Lewis and Gordon contribute? Can Kirilloff stay healthy the rest of the season? Can we expect Julien to hit like he has? Will Larnach continue to be yo-yo'd. FO has a lot on their plate.
  14. no one is talking about Solano. He has been terrible over the past several weeks. Should he be in the discussion? Injuries continue to plague the Twins, so Larnach is still good insurance if they can keep him in the organization. there is no guarantee that Buxton will ever play CF again, for example. Management likes Kepler so I doubt they move him. And if he contributes like he has since the ASG, hanging on to him will have made sense. Gallo however is expendable. I won't miss him if he goes. I would always be VERY cautious about putting any trade together that offers one or more position players for a pitcher. Its high risk. I don't see any relievers on the market that could offer more value than position players down the stretch. Case in point...Cano. He was a first half all-star, but he is not an allstar anymore. He has reverted back to what he has always been. Pitchers are mostly fragile in that they can swing in both directions quickly...good to bad or bad to good. Do Twins have enough pitching? What team does? The Seattle series exposed a lot of holes. fortunately the AL Central is made up of holes!
  15. I made this observation earlier in the thread. the O's really shouldn't trust Cano anymore as their setup man. He has been hit hard just about every time out over the past month. Hitters have figured him out. If O's want to win the AL East, they need to find someone better.
  16. I would sub in 'frustrating' for 'exciting' to describe yesterdays very disappointing loss, following another disappointing loss. Rocco talked about yesterday as though everything was sunshine and roses. I don't like 'leaders' who try and nice away losses. Yeah, I know why he does it, but I don't like it. Fans don't feel good when their team loses games they should be winning and no amount of 'spin' is going to change that. And yeah, you aren't going to win 162 games either, but these kumbaya post game interviews just don't work. Gallo--when you have a lineup of k-men to begin with, you just can't afford to play a guy everyday who can't make contact just because he is 'good' defensively. Can you? Is that enough to compensate for someone who just flails away every AB when there has to be guys who can give you decent 'd' AND who don't give away so many outs? He is a gamer, he tries, but .170 with k's about every 2 AB's isn't going to make you a division champ.
  17. The Nats organization right now does not have stellar pitching, with not much in the pipeline for the forseeable future. At AAA Rochester, just about every pitcher has an ERA of 5.00 or over. Any gem on the big club is probably not available. I'd go fishing in different waters.
  18. If this helps a little, as an O's fan too I can tell you that Cano is fading fast. After an incredible first 6 weeks, he is now being hit hard most every outing. Very very few clean innings. They gave him a shot at closing (for some odd reason) last night and he blew the game in the 9th. So Cano may not be any kind of prize, if this keeps up. He may have topped out.
  19. Pet peeve of mine..Rocco's post game. I hate it when managers and coaches make it sound like everything is just fine...after two pretty disheartening losses. He was heaping praises on everyone today like we just whipped their behinds. While I don't expect him to go all Durocher or Tortorella after a loss, soft soaping a pretty ugly game isn't what we want to hear....is it really? Yeah, they 'almost came back', but because the first two pitchers were throwing batting practice, they put themselves in a real tough spot. If any credit is due, its Winder for eating the innings...but sadly as it turns out the one run he gives up is the deciding run. Anyway, it may just be me, but I don't like a manager who takes losing lightly. You're not going to win 162 games, but your job is to try and not accept defeat. Listening to him this afternoon made the last 2 days worse. OK end of rant. Sorry,
  20. as I originally said,. I hated this game a lot. We always came close but never enough. This was a lousy loss...made more lousy by the way we lost yesterday. Series like this is why Twins may never really get things accomplished this season. Can't imagine if we can't beat KC now
  21. well--nice to see Mariner's pitching stinks today too! Maybe Twins can steal it...assuming they can finally put up a zero in an inning! 1 run down....always getting close but not quite enough....yet.
  22. it was a routine single, played without hustle by our outfield.
  23. men against boys today. I see Seattle scoring probably 13 or 14 runs against our overmatched pitching staff. I also see Twins fanning minimally 14 times. Had we been able to hold a late 4 run lead last night, this game wouldn't bother me at all. But two straight ugly games is not acceptable.
  24. Gallo has fanned 13 of his last 18 AB's. I honestly don't think that the occasional HR can justify keeping in the lineup. I hope the Twins release him. Can't imagine anyone who replaces him to possibly be worse, I understand he is decent defensively but way too much of a liability at the plate to offset...if you consider your team to be a post season contender.
  25. what a horrible game so far. Pitching has been dreadful. Yeah 3 solo HR's for us and a ton of k's too. Ryan didn't have a thing today. And the pen has been no better. Yikes. Since the 8th inning last night, Mariners are owned our pitching staff.
