  1. Huh. And for me, must... have... Wheat Thins. And I don't even like them that much. There must be a scientific explanation for this.
  2. Nice writeup. Amazing that a third of the 1st round high school pitchers from 2010-12 have already had TJ when you consider that probably the oldest would be 23 by now, with the average age probably 21 or a little less. But possibly even more disturbing is the fact that those those 2010-12 HS pitchers blew out their elbows at a rate 5 times what HS pitchers drafted in the top 30 from 2002-2009 did. That's probably at least partly small sample anomaly, but if it represents even a modest increase in injury frequency then it's a very alarming trend. SI's Tom Verducci has a good writeup about the subject. He ends it with a plug for lowering the mound, and it will be interesting to see if the debate about mound height effect on pitcher mechanics and stress intensifies as the injuries mount.
  3. This sentiment is likely on the rise with a good share of the audience, and probably more so in the overlap area of the Venn diagram of TD posters and GG listeners. My guess is that many of the frequent TD posters are Bonnes' age or older, and while still able to appreciate a non-baseball anecdote or tolerate a plug here and there, are not terribly interested in verbal beer-commercial montage recountings of evening social pursuits. AG is witty and self-effacing, but after a while, bar...'and then she said'... yawn. If I understand the format correctly, the podcast is about evenly split between the KFAN segment and the primarily non-baseball podcast-only stuff. Would be interesting to see the listenership split if G&tG podcasts were offered in both KFAN-only theatrical release and the extended director's cut with AG social life commentary that they're currently going with.
  4. Parmebello. Works for me.
  5. We seniors prefer the term 'mobility aid'.
  6. If there is a single meaningful defensive metric that doesn't show Fuld as somewhere between 'roughly equal to' and 'substantially better than' Hicks, it has eluded me. Hicks is more athletic and still has the potential to be a fine defensive CF, but until his reads and routes improve he's just not very good.
  7. Even a stalwart like Reusse is starting to get the message. In his bit about the NFL draft, the blurb add-on thing at the end was the brutal first grade arithmetic of Bartlett + Guerwarrior your tail off <<<<<<<<<< Brooksie + Elvis + Mastro for a rebuilding 3 year/300ish loss team. Your comment about the age situation is right on, but maybe a bit generous to Hicks. He's definitely a guy who should be near his peak, but something is obviously not right.
  8. Sounds exactly what I would say about this. Sorry.
  9. Yeah. Doesn't bode well for either the Twins or the media. By the end of tomorrow their output will tell us more about them than we know now about the front office by a factor of somewhere between two and half of infinity. And by 'their', I meant media, not Twins. I think.
  10. My inside source says that a deal for Sammardozia is on hold until the Twins front office can determine whether or not there is a reliable in-house replacement for Bremer in case the explosion of Blyleven's head while trying to pronounce SummerJay takes out Dick too. Given the current state of the Twins' roster and outfield, my guess is no deal. But hey, that's a vote of confidence for Bulldog Morris, is it not?
  11. Great catch. Looks like Bert isn't the only one who learned math in the Golden State...
  12. Even if I were a devout atheist, and also a front office employee, I would still get down on my knees and thank my sweet Lord Jesus that the NFL draft starts tonight. That and the Wild clinging to life in the playoffs should blunt the savaging that they are due from the local sports media.
  13. http://imagecache.w00t.com/?url=http://www.careerealism.com/home/jtodonnell/careerealism.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/interviewing-jerry-maguire.jpg Honesty...
  14. Too bad it's not an inter-league road series. They could have gone with 17/8 instead of 16/9.
  15. This is as good of a time as any to vent. http://qph.is.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-d71e5de1a4057bb6d3643ff8e107c2d0?convert_to_webp=true Wendell: "It's a mess, ain't it Sheriff?" Ed Tom: "If it ain't, it'll do til the mess gits here."
  16. Yeah, meant that he was mad about the mistakes others made, and embarrassed about his. Or at least that was my takeaway. Not a mind reader, but it would make sense.
  17. http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/SMGz3sXRhvE/hqdefault.jpg I weep for the future.
  18. My last sentence and the pic did not have the intended effect, apparently. At any rate, have a better day than the Twins did.
  19. There's no doubt that just plain old bad luck is a factor in the current roster origami/tsunami. That being said, if (good) luck is the residue of design, then bad luck is the solid waste of bad design. The outfield today consisted of a shortstop, a catcher, and an outfielder who many hoped in ST would never see Opening Day, let alone substantial time in the outfield. The postgame consisted largely of commentators scouring the forty man roster for healthy, major league-worthy outfielders, to no avail. Terry Ryan, who is loathe to publicly criticize anyone, has voiced his concerns about the Twins trainers and medical staff. And Rob Antony, who is likely largely responsible for some questionable moves in Ryan's absence, doesn't know his xFIP from his lower lip. I'm not going to change your mind, so I'll simply say I envy you your faith, pick up my pitchfork and torch, and join the mob. Looks like the Dark Side was just a brief phase for you after all. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qskt-1rLwDM/Tc6DM3PSGJI/AAAAAAAAASg/B4psia-rzqo/s1600/VaderThrowsPalpatine.png
  20. Brock, the Twins came perilously close to failing to put a major league ball club on the field today. Some would argue they did fail. Just imagine the Twins not showing up for the opening game of the series because the team plane landed at the wrong airport. Piloting an airliner requires less education and expertise than practicing medicine, but it's similar in the sense that relatively few people are qualified to do so, and most people know little about what the job entails. And yet when the Northwest Airbus flight from San Diego to the Twin Cities ended up a hundred miles into Wisconsin, nobody hesitated to call for the pilots' figurative heads, and probably rightly so. The Twins front office's flight from San Diego to the Twin Cities is over the north shore of Lake Superior and, pending tomorrow's potentially wacky maneuvering, about to be shot down by Canada. Everyone they employ, including their vaunted medical wizards, is therefore open to scrutiny.
  21. Lew has forgotten too, and until he remembers he's a viable option. The postgame roster discussion was like a CSPAN congressional investigation of a shuttle disaster, and those are people with a clear agenda of promoting the Twins.
  22. PS Wise choice Re: Food vs. game thread. They became mutually exclusive within minutes of your departure. Gardenhire is simultaneously furious and embarrassed about the roster in the postgame.
  23. Dick's forecast for the upcoming series in Detroit? "Roster juggling". His gift for the understatement of incoherence and disaster is matched only by his ability to dramatize routine warning track fly balls...
  24. Deduced from your choice of 9 over 6 that you don't have a Cubota.
  25. Don't forget the affair with the babysitter. And child abduction.
