  1. The night is young, and for that matter, so is the season, really.
  2. I thought you meant it was good because they held them to 1 run in the first, but now I see that there aren't even any outs. Why is this Twins season giving me the feeling that at any moment, Shaggie and Scoobie and the kids will pile out of the Mystery Machine, pull the Paul Molitor mask off of Jim Pohlad, and force him to reveal that he planned to run the Twins into the ground in order to activate the secret MLB 120 loss contraction clause so he could pocket the buyout money and flee the country... ... if it hadn't been been for those meddling kids! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/photopost/data/2260/medium/Unmasking_Villains_013.jpg PS That's a rhetorical question.
  3. I'm just down the road a bit, looks ok to me... http://brightcove.vo.llnwd.net/e1/pd/16991917/16991917_1813228190001_vs-503e867a2d76b0e49052fc62-807632869001.jpg?pubId=16991917
  4. Roy Smalley inanity update: "Santana's return gives Paul Molitor four outfielders who are good both defensively and offensively that he can move around in the field and in the batting order". Well, that's a relief. Next up: what to do with the Twins' overabundance of top-of-the-rotation starters...
  5. Not long from now, after Buxton's next MSP-RST frequent flyer mileage windfall and Robbie Grossman's DFA... "Batting third, the center fielder, Rickie Youngdinger!"
  6. In his last real appearance as an everyday player (2014) Arcia (then age 23) put up an OPS of .752 and wRC of 109. The 29.9 year old Park currently sits at .719 with an abysmal 92 wRC, and has been absolutely wretched since April, culminating in a June OPS of .604. Sooo.. would it be fair to say that the only reason that Park will be in MLB for long may well turn out to be that the Twins chose to commit $24 million to his 4 year deal? And for the record, I was fine with the Twins gambling 24 mil on Park figuring out MLB pitching, which he may yet do, but only if the Twins were willing to regard him as a failed experiment and sunk cost when the time came. We're not there yet, but it will be interesting to see what happens if Park continues to struggle, because now the Twins have already bailed on one younger, cheaper player who has outperformed Park. How many more will there be?
  7. So the Twins are paying a thirty year old DH 12 million over 4 years to do what Arcia was doing pretty much for free 3 years ago at age 22, and less than Arcia was doing at age 23. And the good news is that the Twins can do that again? I have absolutely no idea how that's a defense of this front office. Arcia is a flawed player to be sure, but not as deeply flawed as an organization that turns a kid who OPS'ed in the mid .700's in the majors at age 22-23 into a DFA'd afterthought.
  8. At this point I'm reduced to hoping that Arcia A) does land with the Tigers, B} hits like a maniac, and C) thoroughly sticks it to his old organization when he gets the first chance to. I hate having to include C), but A) and B} alone have no chance of getting through the insulation and inertia that's keeping the Twins' front office from taking meaningful action to remake this franchise.
  9. What's killing me about this season is not that the Twins have gone from a winning record in 2015 to being the worst team in the AL this year. What's killing me is that ownership and the organization appear to be determined to conduct business as usual and continue to repeat the same mistakes over and over again, learning absolutely nothing. Having no idea what to make of an Arcia is the kind of thing that happens when a franchise convinces itself that it's no longer rebuilding the minute it claws its way back to .500, like the Twins did last year.
  10. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, and more importantly the fullest possible restoration of his shoulder to good overall, non-baseball health. Hope he gets the chance to pitch effectively again and leave the game on his own terms. If not, he seems like the sort of guy who'll be able to handle the transition. If he's interested in coaching down the road, he's in the right organization to get a shot at it. As for what it means to the Twins, it's a lost season anyway, and counting on a 34 year old reliever already in decline to close next season seems like exactly the sort of bad decision the Twins would make but no longer can. Maybe Perk's injury will force them to make a smart decision for a change.
  11. Or maybe a Pitt cameo appearance to perform his "Is losing fun?" monologue? http://namtab.com/writing/MMmoneyball07.gif
  12. Remember how lost he looked before people started saying he was coming around? There you go. In fairness, CC has pitched well, but I've seen better swings at a pinata than the ones Buxton took.
  13. Who's TiVo? Another waiver wire outfielder? And did he bunt on a sign or on his own?
  14. That was Abad pitch. Pretty hard to get it closer to the center of the strike zone without a tape measure and a laser level.
  15. Nah, Ryan knows that you rebuild a cratered major league baseball team around an experienced closer, the same way you put together a young NFL team on a foundation made of punter or kicker.
  16. It's only the 6th time this year the Twins have given up 10 or more runs? I kinda thought they managed that 6 times in, like, May alone. Well, that might be one season futility record that's out of reach... sigh.
  17. http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad228/peanutpeterb/oie_METfS5NgVOAu_zps65f625a5.gif
  18. The home team Angels have the day off, while the Twins get to FedEx themselves two thirds of the way across the country for their game later today with the franchise's 21st century El Guapo, the Yankees. Thanks, MLB schedulers! http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m52nxxgEAb1qmfg84o1_500.jpg
  19. If the Twins can pull off the eminently doable feat of not scoring in the ninth, they'll pull within four runs of the Braves for the MLB lead in negative run differential, so...
  20. Hey, I said that I wondered, not that I looked...
  21. With this lead they could send Zombie Shane from Walking Dead out for the ninth and leave with a win.
  22. The Twins bullpen is reaching the point where regardless of effectiveness or lack thereof, they should just keep a military-style duty rotation between the majors and AAA to keep the work load below 60 innings for everyone.
  23. I wonder if Fangraphs has an article about how many runs or how many tenths of ERA Andrelton's glove might save a pitcher with an average GB/FB ratio over the course of a full season
  24. You should give your brain more credit! It's almost sure to come in handy eventually...
  25. These are a dead giveaway for the chariot guys... http://mimg.ugo.com/201109/7/4/0/209047/cuts/14-jpg_528_poster.png
