  1. Offense has the scuffling Gibson's back; hitless through three. Ever the Company Man, Dick notes that the Twins "need help behind the plate" as Suzuki walks to the plate to take his lumps. Then he quickly corrects it to "Well, depth anyway". Because Lord knows we wouldn't want to imply that maybe Suzuki isn't very good.
  2. But it does do graphics, as depicted below. And the cessation of the raspy, grating sound lets you know when it's done! http://images.macworld.com/images/news/graphics/150845-apple_imagewriter_original.jpg Only downside is that it only works with a Mac, which is still struggling to understand Terry's voice commands. http://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/scotty.jpg
  3. Yup. Chose the sepia Mudcat picture because sepia = old. Universally recognized, like McDonald's or The Finger.
  4. Princess Bride by a nose, 52-48 over MPHG, because the internet hates an unanswered question. fwiw, my guess is that Holy Grail is probably hurt at least a little by its vastly smaller number of airings on cable resulting in fewer young'ns seeing it.

  6. The last pitch to Bradley seemed to fit in the 'go' category, in more ways than one.

  8. I would also rather see the rotation you suggest if the guys in question trend the right way in 2016. But it would require the Twins to admit they sort of blew it with some of the veterans, and lately they seem to be in rose-colored glasses mode. Bill James said that most 105+ loss seasons happen because of an organization's fear of a 90-loss season even though rebuilding is more or less inevitable. While no one thing is to blame, that's about as good an explanation of this terrible Twins season as any.
  9. This one sentence, for me at least, captures a pretty troubling aspect of the Twins in the Second Age of Ryan. Recent history has shown that we absolutely do NOT know anything like the true ability or potential of a Berrios, or any other prospect for that matter, at least to the same degree that more successful organizations know for their prospects. While we have all certainly heard the scouting and the projections on the best Twins prospects, the Twins have struggled mightily to turn these guys into good major league ballplayers.
  10. No offense (and this is no way directed at you), but as a fan, I'm angry about that opening day rotation. The Twins have been terrible for five of the past six seasons. How many successful organizations have SIX years, an allegedly top-flight farm system, and a potentially above-average payroll with only one monolithic contract (Mauer), and then field a rotation like that one? And as a bonus question, what does that projected 2017 rotation say about the Twins front office if arguably its most likely member to succeed hasn't been a starter since succeeding in the role but losing it anyway almost a year ago?
  11. You mean like skill set, or... http://i3.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/006/026/futuramafry.jpg ... identity theft? PS That one's for you RB. It's been at least a week since my last Frye meme, and I'm sure you've been waiting anxiously: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/doctors-next-door/Dog%20napping%20on%20keyboard.jpg
  12. Fun with Numbers, Hostel Edition: Unless the Twins close the deficit tonight by at least two runs, they will take over sole possession of first place all of MLB in negative run differential with -96. Still a chance they could be back on pace for -300 for the season by the end of the month... http://horrornews.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/hostel-2005-movie-7.jpg
  13. "There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot."
  14. Has Jepsen ever been a starter? 1 2/3rds scoreless tonight, so let's get the 'Jepsen to the rotation' rumor started. Because why not? Why not start the rumor, I mean, not actually try him there. Or actually do it. I don't care. If you just read that and can't figure out if I'm actually suggesting it, don't feel bad. I wrote the damn thing and even I'm not sure.
  15. Sort of looked like a younger Terry Ryan, minus either the scowl or the turd-eating contest runner up looks that Terry has been sporting these days... http://www.twincities.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-20140929__9-29TerryRyan.jpg
  16. All together, that's.... what, 40% of the broadcast?
  17. Well, the Twins finally did something this year to make me feel good about them. Sort of. Was wearing my throwback 70's Twins t-shirt and a guy from my neighborhood was walking his dog and commented that the shirt choice was a 'show of optimism!' We talked about the Twins sucking and other stuff for half an hour.or so. So, thanks for reeking like a dead fish, 2016 Twins! Due to the uniquely human phenomenon of bonding in the face of shared misery, I now know a cool neighbor that I didn't before!
  18. I'm also not much of a huge fan of them to begin with. Having anything more than a cap tip for Ortiz just seems sad. An actual David Ortiz Night in the middle of an abysmal season like this one seems like what I would imagine it to be like to go to your ex's wedding... on a weekend pass from the workhouse. Only send-offy thing that I can really think of that sums up my indifference to the end of Ortiz's fine and rather remarkable career and very modest well-wish for him is probably just... "Bye bye! http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y145/MoonlightStorm/gifs/gifmadmaxhavefunstormingthecastle.gif ... of retirement!"
  19. http://www.kiwimotoring.com/media/blog/rollover1.gif But hey, they landed on their wheels, sort of... SOoooo .... More Twins baseball tomorrow! Except for Phil Hughes, probably... Sorry, too soon?
  20. I do too, but then I often remember that it's probably pretty good to be Dick Bremer the other 21 hours of the day that he's not describing the crash of baseball's Hindenburg. Or the other 5 months of the year, for that matter. http://share.gifyoutube.com/y0J7Rz.gif On the other hand, you couldn't pay me enough to sit through one losing season with Rik Aalbert, let alone 5 of 6, so yeah, maybe call it a wash.
  21. Late rally adding some suspense: Twins jeopardizing their chance to halve their deficit with the Braves and Reds in negative run differential with one fell swoop. Edit: The good news is that with only one scoring with the bases loaded the Twins still have a VERY good chance to reach -100 net runs by the end of the weekend. Milestones.... get to know 'em!!!
  22. Dick almost delirious from the awfulness, noting cheerfully in the 8th that "It was just a couple of innings ago that the Twins were tied!" Thanks, Dick, it's easy to forget how time flies when you're having this much fun... http://content7.flixster.com/site/10/25/97/10259737_ori.jpg
  23. Yes, but it's closer than it should be. The tie breaker is the bad bear breath that most bear attack survivors complain of. But hey, they've got over a hundred games to pull ahead of the bear, so who knows?
  24. Twins marketing department's new campaign is almost ready to launch: 2016 Twins baseball - beats being mauled by a bear!
