  1. Yes, this strategy has worked well with Lance Lynn, Phil Hughes, Mike Pelfrey, Kevin Corriea, Hector Santiago, Bartolo Colon, Anibal Sanchez, Martin Perez and more! The 20-game winner can start two games in the ALDS and three in the ALCS/WS. That's why its needed in my opinion. Having a bunch of middling starters and hoping for career years has not worked out for this organization, especially when it comes to winning in the playoffs.
  2. Wondering what fans at Game Three thought of the nightclub atmosphere at the game last night. I thought having a DJ playing "sick beats" and loud, thumping bass for four hours was really grating... but I am an old soul. Last season I really enjoyed my trip to Wrigley to see the Twins play. The PA guy wasn't shouting, the music wasn't blaring and the fans didn't need their hands held the entire game to know if/when to MAKE NOISE. Personally, I think a DJ/pump-up music guy is cool for the pregame but holy cow did that get old after a while last night. Again, maybe I'm just old so I am wondering what others thought.
  3. No one is better in all of Major League Baseball than the Twins at being "in on guys." 100% accurate. They will go second-tier for starting pitching as usual, while also acting like they had serious interest in the high-end guys. Much like Darvish a couple years ago. There's a growing sentiment that guys won't sign with Minnesota for whatever reason, but money talks and the Pohlads not only have plenty of it, they certainly made a healthy profit this year.
  4. We will get the latest edition of Correia, Pelfrey, Nolasco, Perez, Colon, etc to go with Berrios/Odo/Dobnak etc. The Pohlads have owned the team for 35 years now, there is no reason to expect them to all the sudden change their ways. They made bank this year doing it the way they have always done it- being competitive and hard-selling the future. The future never comes, though. Ever.
  5. Their ace was suspended right before the playoffs on suspicion of domestic abuse. So, this conspiracy theory doesn't add up.
  6. What happened to "enjoy the ride?" I can't count how many times I was told that when I suggested they add to their thin pitching ranks...
  7. I understand bringing Gibson along from a loyalty standpoint, but I can't see the actual benefit he brings to the team on the field. He's a decent pitcher when right, but I think it's clear he is not healthy enough to count on.
  8. Yeah that's gonna be a no from me dog. They don't pop at all, you gotta go with the white Hankies! EDIT: Apparently, according to TC white hankies have been banned since 1991!? Am I crazy or did the 2000's Twins also have white hankies?!
  9. Just came here to say I was wrong. Thought the team would fold after the lackluster deadline, and I was dead wrong. Congrats to my favorite baseball team and I will take my lessons learned this year with me moving forward!
  10. I think that if the Twins want to use Perez as a reliever, they should have sprinkled him in here in that role over the last couple weeks. Why keep giving him (poor) starts all the way until the ALDS?
  11. Winning the pennant would mean winning the American League, not the Central.
  12. "Yes, baseball players having their best season at age 39 seems normal" - Every baseball fan in the late 90's.
  13. Just once I would like to hear Gibson say something along the lines of "I stunk and I need to step up in games like this." It's always "I think I pitched well outside of one or two pitches." This loss was not on Gibson, but I just don't think he has the swagger/mental toughness to take that big step forward to be a #2/#3 starter in the league. He will always be a #4/#5.
  14. I'll take Marwin! He's been very clutch this season.
  15. It'd be nice having Garver's bat in there more often, but I don't know if I'm ready to see him try to bail the infielders out with the month (season?) they are having defensively.
  16. Yes! That "Home run record" flag will look nice next to the World Series ones from 30 years ago at Target Field!
  17. EDIT: First commenter already mentioned this, my bad. Isn't Yordan Alvarez the favorite at this point?
  18. I agree that you probably can't afford to IL him for rest, but I also maybe don't leave him out there to rot against Atlanta either.
  19. Thank you for the necessary and not at all pedantic response. Changes absolutely nothing about my original post but if it makes you feel better than yes, you are right and I am a dumb idiot. At this time last year, you could have said the same thing about Cron with the Rays, there was no reason to believe they would let him walk but here we are.
  20. Honest question- why does everyone talk about this "window" opening? My comment is not aimed at this particular post/author, a number of people are talking about it. Schoop, Cron, Cruz, Perez, Odorizzi, Pineda and Castro could all be gone after this season (Cruz and Cron will likely re-sign, but they aren't young cornerstones). Polanco started hot, now is trailing off. Berrios is trending in the wrong direction. Buxton can't stay on the field. Sano is a crapshoot from game-to-game. Sure, all of Graterol, Alcala, Balazovic, Kiriloff, Larnach etc could all pan out and we could have a great team, but it's not likely. This was the year, all the stuff the FO threw at the wall offensively worked better than they could have imagined, and they needed arms. They chose not to do anything at all during the offseason, then whined that the price was too high at the deadline. I guess I don't fully understand the narrative that this team has a ton of pieces in place to be some sort of great team for the next decade.
  21. This weekend was a perfect preview of a potential playoff series. One team got solid pitching performances, manufactured runs however they could get them and played fundamentally sound baseball. The other team swung for the fences, ran themselves out of rallies and made mistakes in the field. Cleveland played baseball, the Twins played like a slow-pitch softball team. The Twins are a fun story and it's been great to see them be competitive for the first time in forever, but this weekend showed us what type of team it takes to win the big games.
