  1. All Astudillo has done wherever he has been is hit. He gives hope to the common man.
  2. I used to have a lot of fun with the HOF. Not so much anymore. No Joe Jackson. No Pete Rose. No Barry Bonds. No Rafael Palmeiro. No Roger Clemens. Until the ones that should be in based on what they did in the field are in I could care less about any others. PEDS? Cheating? It goes way back. Charlie Comiskey was a scoundrel, yet he is in. I would characterize both Molina and Mauer as borderline players.
  3. I wanted these guys all off season. But now I'm not so sure, ST is almost half over. Without ST it could be Lynn and Morrison Part 2.
  4. Who knows? Luis Rijo just might end up being pretty good.
  5. I'll lump Misael Urbina in with that group also. Great sign.
  6. Logan Foresythe signs an milb with the Rangers.
  7. Martin Perez appeared to be in mid-season form as well.
  8. This article must be a lot of Bull, that was my first reaction to the title. Twins not a good showing in this first contest against Baltimore.
  9. Also, of those 6 starts one was very bad. 6 ER in 1.0 IP. The other 5 starts he actually pitched to an under 3 ERA.
  10. What has made Astudillo popular? Could it be his .355 BA? This from a career .306 milb player. Could it be from the amazing plays he made as a C and a 3B? Could it be because he plays every play hard and with grit and determination? Could it be from his 0.8 WAR in a very short time of season for him? I'll take Astudillo for the reasons I mentioned over Adrianza, Cave, Gonzalez, Austin and Cron any day. Perhaps he's only a flash in the pan. But perhaps he is better than a number of other players vying for a spot on the team and playing time. I don't think he should be denied a spot just because he is "popular" either.
  11. I'm with this. Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez are still available on the SP market. Kimbrel on the RP side. Do one of these before you trade Rosario. But get it done soon or forget it, these guys need to be in ST soon.
  12. I guess this post fits in Non-Twins news and Twins news from around the Web: Ervin Santana signs the with the White Sox on an milb deal.
  13. But making the bottom of the roster does make the top better.
  14. Except that Adrianza is far better with the glove at SS.
  15. As someone mentioned in the other thread, what does this mean for Nick Gordon? How does the FO even feel about him at this point? Gordon is a prospect that I still have the highest hopes for.
  16. Left with a choice of those two I would keep Adrianza. Defense at SS should not be taken for granted. I also hope that Astudillo gets a fair shot and makes the team. I would keep him over one of Cron or Austin or Cave. Rosario Buxton Kepler Schoop Polanco Sano Castro Garver Cruz Gonzalez Astudillo Adrianza Cron or Austin
  17. Willians has got my vote for the team!
  18. I have wanted Kimbrel all winter. If we did pursue him I'd like it in the very few next days. It wasn't fun watching Lynn last season after he had missed a bunch of ST. And Holland was awful in St.Louis w/o ST. Games begin Saturday. tbh if we don't sign him by the end of the weekend I don't want him. ST is too important to miss substantial amount of it.
  19. My thought on a Marwin sign is they must have a lot of doubt and uncertainty about Sano.
  20. What's the point in saving something if you aren't going to put it to its maximum use? Actually the Pohlad's wanted to contract the team so I'd hardly give them credit for saving it. They did buy it from Cal in 1984. I guess I'd like to see more than a participation medal and guessing by dropping attendance I'm likely not alone.
  21. And its not like Machado is a one time 6 WAR flash in the pan player. He's been at that 6WAR plateau 4 times now. I've seen Schoop's name mentioned here a couple times, he's exceeded 5 WAR once. Machado has proven that he is great. We are still left with hoping that our players will be good, let alone great.
  22. I remember them in the 1984 WS. They got steam rolled by a very good Tigers team. The highlight for them was in game 2, their only win, Kurt Bevaqua with a 3 run HR to lead the come from behind win. It was a fast death after that for SD.
  23. In non-Twins off season news Don Newcombe dies at 92 y/o. Newcombe was a former Negro League and Dodger Great.
  24. I'm not sure exactly what our payroll is now after the Polanco/Kepler extensions. But I'm thinking somewhere around 107-09M. So, little or none of the Mauer money has been used from last seasons opening payroll. Add Machado and we are a few M below 140. We cut ties with Cron before the season and we are only a couple M higher then in 2018. In the coming seasons you shuffle in a prospect here and there and trade a vet as needed and realistically they can stay at around or below 140M. A 26 y/o 6 WAR player does not come along every year. When they do often times the big boys are willing to spend to outbid the smaller markets. This was the chance. Cash and a draft pick for a superstar and no need to deprive the team in any other area at this point or in the near future. Its as obvious as ever that a WS is not the top priority of this org.
  25. Machado is only 26, what indication is there that he won't continue to be very good for the next 6-8 seasons? That leaves only 2,3 years of "too bad we have this deal". I'll take that.
