  1. Bud just alerted me to the signing. Not bad money. Loved Farm, but lateral speed has diminished and the bat was in the toilet. The $3.5MM is more than I would have gone.
  2. "When asked if he was considering giving the Rays permission to look for a new permanent home elsewhere, Manfred said the league is “committed to the fans in Tampa Bay... The commissioner wants to have two new teams’ locations picked out by the time he retires in 2029, although the clubs won’t yet be playing. But Manfred has long pegged league expansion to the Rays and the Athletics." https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5936548/2024/11/20/rob-manfred-rays-stadium-mlb-expansion/
  3. "The Tampa Bay Rays say their stadium deal is halted due to Pinellas County commissioners delaying bonds to pay for the county's share of the project. In a letter written by Rays presidents Brian Auld and Matt Silverman, they say the county's "failure to finalize the bonds last month ended the ability for a 2028 delivery of the ballpark." They go on to write that a 2029 ballpark delivery would be more costly, which the Rays cannot afford to finance alone...." Nashville Sounds? https://www.wtsp.com/article/sports/mlb/rays/tampa-bay-rays-stadium-deal-halted/67-958e63cf-88b2-4886-98ce-7d389b502660
  4. St Pete city, owner of Trop, is spending $6MM to waterproof exposed portions of stadium (scoreboard, concessions, etc). This is not the roof reoccur, If roof is deemed irreparable, work may cease. If draining system can be worked out (there is no drainage system), possible that the Rays may play open air. Lord have mercy, I lived in Fla for 18 yrs and summers are tough. Second consideration is to play in Dunedin (just north of Clearwater/St Pete area). Holds 8300 if memory serves me. Jays do there Spring training there. https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/tampa-bay-rays-get-big-news-in-attempt-to-salvage-tropicana-field-temporary-drainage-system
  5. I understand the interest in the off season, but my approach is very passive. Why? Pohlad has given a key figure to Falvey. Falvey's bonus is going to be based on achieving that figure with a stepped bonus upon achieving so many wins. Hit that figure (base payroll) and then have an algorithm in which the more wins results in a higher bonus for Falvey. Falvey has to achieve that base salary before the bonus kicks in. Only in knowing that figure can you make assumptions about what the off-season trade season looks like. While it's fun, it's futile. Pohlad has his figure in mind relative to moving the team. MLB franchises are like real estate --- it's the location, location, location. If you are planning on moving, you don't re-do the wood floors, install new windows. You break out a bucket of paint and splash a new coat on it. You don't invest in it. I don't think Pohlad is finished reducing payroll. Break out the paint (trade XX and sign YY) and come in with that reduced payroll, shooting for 75 wins. You have to know Pohlad's figure
  6. Cards declined options on Gibby as well as Lynn.
  7. I used to go to Amerks games just to boo a tall lanky Quebec'er on defense, Nova Scotia, Gilles Lupien.
  8. These guys are billboards: 1. Strauss - German work clothes (at least use Carhart) on batting helmet 2. Nike 3. Starr Insurance (Yanks), G for Guggenheim (ownership group of Dodgers) Enough already. I remember as a kid how the Buffalo Bisons (old American Hockey League) had a Pepsi Cola bottle cap on their jerseys. I thought it was tacky as a 10 yr old kid in the '50s; haven't shifted in my position. Gross.
  9. While I share your concern and dismay at BBs grossly inequitable salary totals, this is a classic matchup in the Fall. Add to that, Judge and Ohtani, mano a mano. Not to be missed
  10. ...roof was already beyond its shelf life. Litigation will tie it up. St Pete is broke after hurricane. 9500 seating capacity as Disney/Orlando. How about, the Orlando Mice.
  11. You, I, and no one in the MLB office.
  12. Game 4. What is Roberts waiting for? Disaster. Saving the BP is one thing; kissing the game goodbye is another.
  13. I see WSox selling at fire-sale price. Reinsdorf has bled it dry, with the club striking the MLB record for worst team ever and sitting in the bottom 1/3 of prospect rankings. Nashville? 1st Horizon can't be expanded beyond its 10,000 capacity. Room for stadium downtown near where NFL plays. Move it.
  14. Leave video on and throw the game on WTAM, iheart stream, and tune into Tom Hamilton. I believe MLB finally got off their duff and FINALLY synchronized the feeds. https://wtam.iheart.com/featured/guardians-coverage/
  15. https://www.mlb.com/news/guardians-alcs-game-3-radio-calls If you have never listened to Tom Hamilton, Cleve's radio PBP, enoy. I like him. Very descriptive calling, doesn't drown you in stats, announces games with baseball knowledge and strategy in mind. Yeah, bit of a homer but all is good.
  16. Slots, casino, hotel, bars and retail. Oh, yeah. A retractable roof ballpark as well. Come for the enterainment and a game will break out. https://www.ktnv.com/news/first-look-at-the-planned-resort-that-could-replace-the-tropicana
  17. Former A's pitcher Dave Stewart leads the shopping group. Adios, Reinsdorf https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/former-toronto-blue-jays-world-series-winner-dave-stewart-in-talks-to-buy-chicago-white-sox-from-jerry-reinsdorf
  18. I loved Farmer; his grit and determination. Range has definitely slipped and bat has developed a leak. The price tag makes me put it back on the shelf. Not sure about Helman. Can't remember him from the games I attended at CHS. Maybe I should have spent less time at the concession stand?
