  1. TD does a good job in objectively presenting a spectrum of perspectives on the Twins. Are there articles with which I disagree? Many of them. But I can buzz thru the lighter arguments and drill down on the good ones that contain solid items I hadn't considered. Keep up the good work.
  2. While I agree with the general tone of the article, I did find this statement shocking.
  3. Attended Div I college game in Boca Raton, Florida, on Sunday. Florida Atlantic University (my alma mater) vs Bradley. 1st base had a double bag, one in fair territory and an orange one in foul. Say what? New rule in Div I in 2025. Orange bag is there for the runner, thereby reducing collusions at 1st. https://247sports.com/college/mississippi-state/article/ncaa-baseball-rule-double-bag-first-base-mississippi-state-missouri-state-246022921/
  4. Had Blue Jays game on and who is batting instructor? David Popkins. Maybe others caught it last fall, but I had missed it. https://www.mlb.com/news/david-popkins-blue-jays-hitting-coach
  5. Vegas will return $4000 on your $100 bet today. Best grab it. Though my $100 will remain in my pocket for 3 dozen eggs at Cub in these remaining weeks of ST, I will agree with you on "Go Twins."
  6. Rain gods vs MLB, 1-0.
  7. Expect the rains to come down on the boys today. It is presently raining in Tampa and radar looks like ~2..00 p in Port Charlotte.
  8. Francona has the Reds players opting out of the ABS this spring in that it won't be employed this year; "distraction from anything that helps us win this year." Reds MiLB is employing it.
  9. 5th inn and I am very tired of the ABS already.
  10. And the man...Aaron Judge. He has kept the number 99 that he was given in Spring Training years ago. 3 fields, several pitchers on each, with 5 batters on ours. All eyes were on Judge. Gosh, he is easy to root for. Pitching coach calls balls and strikes and so that players can get used to the ABS, batter can call for a review of a pitch. Judge cranked what would have been two doubles.
  11. This young lad has visions and dreams of when he will fill his jersey with the class, form, and talent of #99. Mine was #24, Willie Mays, but I never made it out of the sandlots of Western New York. I wish the lad more success.
  12. Stopped over to Yanks Spring Training. They had 3 fields going with BP. Tampa Tarpons, their single-A affiliate of the FSL plays here during the year. I guess we all have egos but I have lots of other names for the stadium I could suggest. Given my era, I think I will rename it the Mantle-Maris Field. Yeah, I like the ring of that. Tons of Yankee paraphernalia on sale. I easily walked past it and joined the other 1,100 visitors watching a very tall fellow practice...
  13. We had plans to head to Gainesville for a game between UF and FAMU Rattlers (historic Black college) on Wed but the rain gods have other plans for the day. Nuts. Will head over to the Yanks spring training camp instead. When we lived in Tampa, always went to the FAMU and Bethune Cookman (another HBCU) game. Football wasn't so good but the bands, at halftime, were spectacular. FAMU was the national champ marching band of 2024. If you ever get a chance to see them perform, don't miss it.
  14. Watched the Hawkeyes of Iowa fall to the University of South Florida last nite. Iowa was cruising to a 4-1 victory until the 7th. The Bulls smacked a grand slam and that's all she wrote. USF wins, 5-4. Infield was a black rubber composite. I have seen the black fill on "grass" before but never for the infield players area. Oh, it was 71* with the windchill factor at 8.30pm. <Winks>..
  15. mess 1 of 2 noun mess Synonyms of mess. Definitions: a.a disordered, untidy, offensive, or unpleasant state or condition your room is in a mess b. the Twins 2024 offseason.
  16. We played this song incessantly in Noncommissioned Officers club jukebox during Vietnam war. Oh, memories...
  17. Let's use this thread to update others on Arizona and Florida ball. On my way to get Cuban coffee, drove by the Yanks spring training site in Tampa this morning and there is life. Lots of prep work prior to ballplayers return. I typically focus on college ball rather than the pro's. MLB might trot starters out for 3 inn and then you get to watch A-level ball. $35 later and what have you seen. Will drive over to Lakeland to see Flatherty and Skubal pitch a few innings. College ball? Two Div II teams; Tampa University and St Leo: https://saintleolions.com/sports/baseball/schedule. Will check out a game at St Leo this weekend. Two Div I teams I will take in., Univ of South Florida. Will also drive down to Boca Raton for Florida Atlantic University, the Owls, my alma mater. It has been 51 years since I last drove off campus. If anyone else is down here, sing out and we can attend one together. db Play ball!
  18. What I enjoyed most about visiting Busch Stadium, in addition to the history? The fans. Knowledgeable, loud, welcoming, electric energy. What I enjoyed most about WSox Stadium (not sure what they call it this week...). Nothing.
  19. No position, no bat, but great 'stache, better name. Tampa has a festival which celebrates him. A surgeon at our church was the first African American to integrate its fleet in 1994. https://gasparillapiratefest.com
  20. Ehire Adrianza retires at 35 after 12 major league seasons. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/43147572/ehire-adrianza-retires-35-12-major-league-seasons
  21. The A's had a gap at 3rd. The Athletics are in agreement with Gio Urshela on a free agent contract, reports Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic. Financial terms for the Rep 1 Baseball client aren’t reported. The signing is pending a physical. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/12/as-agree-to-deal-with-gio-urshela.html
  22. Love Farm but that franchise is a mess.
  23. Ol' Jake continues to build on the stories he can spin for his grandchildren some day and continues to make $900K more than I ever made in one year. Swat on, Jake.
  24. Bud just alerted me to the signing. Not bad money. Loved Farm, but lateral speed has diminished and the bat was in the toilet. The $3.5MM is more than I would have gone.
