  1. I'm convinced. Would really like this move for now and the next 2 years.
  2. The mission is to improve the bullpen, preferably on the top end. With this trade and DFA of Torres, Romo definitely improves it by his replacement and jumping a couple of others. Now I wait for that person to challenge Rogers as our best. Even one will make me happy - two ecstatic. I just hope my liquor cabinet survives the wait.
  3. Second player is supposedly Chris Vallimont, big righty in FSL at Jupiter. Looks like good K numbers. Drafted last year in 5th round.
  4. Kind of so-so on Romo, but he is in near the top on hard hit rate and exit velocity against. Also another player, believe a MiLB pitcher, is coming from Miami according to Joel Sherman.
  5. Good article Seth. If we only knew the evaluations of the FO and their self-imposed limits. But then that take all the fun of speculating as to what will happen. Rosterman, I was entertaining almost the same thoughts earlier today. Thanks for posting so I didn't have to. The past few days I've change my position some on what players I'd be willing to move. Now, it's all of them for the right piece, with the caveat that It would not create a stress on the system or vacates good depth which could be important support for the Twins, now and in the near future. For example, would the loss of Lewis put the Twins in a bind the next couple of years? Not likely as Polanco is signed for 4 more and we have others in the pipeline. However in his case it better be for the right piece.
  6. Not all classes.carry three credits plus an engineering degree is likely more than 120, as was the case with my son.
  7. J Mayo had him going to the Angels at 15. His stock seem to be rising. Maybe not a big stretch at all. We'll find out in a few years if it was a good choice.
  8. Again another great explanation of the medical problems athletes often face. Also thank you for diagnosing my ailment - all along I thought it was just old age. Certainly not the cause in Graterols case. Where should mail the fee?
  9. For me all I can say is "Yahoo!" For Devin. I think he deserves a chance, just surprised its this early. I hope that he becomes one of the pitching surprises the Twins have lack for a number of years.
  10. Apparently Odorizzi pulled himself from the game so they had a chance to win. This says a ton about the makeup and mission they are on. I am excited about the potential of the rest of the season. Here are his comments and also some from Sano on his hitting: https://www.mlb.com/news/miguel-sano-hits-clutch-two-run-homer?game_pk=564757
  11. Maybe those that feel this addition to Perez repertoire will be short lived as teams see more of it could enlighten me. Wouldn't that be the case of every pitcher and each of their pitches? Of course if one knows its coming then the pitch's effectiveness would/should decline substantially. But then again if one has excellent command and control of the pitch there's a chance batters still couldn't hit it, as with M Rivera's cutter. So isn't that the real basis of good pitching - command and control along with good game calling?
  12. Excellent Seth. It should be an exciting year. It'll be fun to get the answers to all those questions you served up. Every spring we have hope, however, this year that hope seems to have a better chance to become reality. I do think the Twins will at least be in the playoff hunt until their last game.
  13. Big hat I agree with your basic tenet here. However I did not refer to those prospects as future all-stars, but one of the three has a good chance to be a capable replacement. The fact that Austin is on the bubble indicates to me he could be easily replaced. There seems to be a sentiment that he'll become another Ortiz if we lose him. That as misplaced optimism as is the 3 prospects being all-stars. And again I did not say or even inferred Kiriloff would be better and they should just ditch him. Please don't put words in my mouth/comments. The fact remains Austin has warts, SO's, and is limited to one position. With that his value decreases and could be replaced fairly easily, i.e. Duda, and that's my point.
  14. Personally I won't be upset if Austin doesn't make it and is even lost. IMO he'd likely be a one year asset with Kiriloff, Rocker, and Larnach (forgive the sp) being close and have the ability to play OF. Nice as a bench bat maybe, but what else do you do with him? On the 3-bat rule, which happens next year, how in the world did teams manage before the LOOGY?
  15. Good analysis and something that I can get accept. I also think that the FO is being consistent to their mission when they were hired: To develop a strong team for the long-term. These signings seem to underpin that approach by locking in at least good support players who have the potential to improve. As Birdwatcher added, the improvement in the Twins so far is not just in player acquisition, but in the revamping of a system that lacked many of the necessary qualities for a strong competitive team long-term. That takes time, but I see the progress and am encouraged.
  16. No to 3 batter minimum and anti-tanking. I'm ok with the others. Regarding he pace of the game, baseball needs to understand it is not a game of constant activity like football or basketball. It's just not the nature of the game. A 3-hour constest is not really that much longer then the length of football games. Also, on the court we have to spend 30 minutes to watch the last two minutes of the game. Others have they're issues of being spectator friendly too. Just a thought, will increasing the roster tend to slow things down. That would likely solidify 13 pitchers, allowing more mound visits to change pitchers. To speed it up maybe discontinue walks and insert a 3-pitch max per batter. (Tongue firmly in cheek, maybe.)
  17. Interesting data. I agree with Brandon on the trade angle. Data can be very skewed depending on the assumptions used. Unlike FA, which usually is dictated by $$ and yrs, trades become more of a hit and miss. I like that you disregarded the in-season trade data, but even pre-season trades are influenced by the team's internal needs assessment AND the trading partner needs and evaluations. Sometimes there just isn't a match. But mostly, I think trades happen when one is closer to that level of expected success. Given that however, if the Twins aren't active in the trade market to improve going forward, I will be very disappointed. The time is near or here, that we should expect acquisitions to get them into the playoffs. The one disclaimer may be that the FO's approach is to build for long-term success vs. a short run at it, which may curtail any major moves in the short term. Still good stuff.
  18. Always enjoy these, Cody. Thanks. The lineup really looks promising. Could be a strong run producer. Here's hoping.
  19. While the means exist, someone forgot about motive. Would be nice to be wrong on this.
  20. Good and thoughtful article. A couple of my personal thoughts, maybe not entirely within the theme of the piece. This sentence struck a major harmonic chord for me: "The easy response is that these players, while worth way less than their owners, will still end up making far more money than any of us will and it becomes hard to feel bad for a player who ends up making only 3 million dollars instead of 4 million dollars because the difference is negligible for us." The level of money tossed around is mindboggling, but that's the Milton-Bradley game they play. And for stars, OH MY! However, it becomes insulting, when agents like Machado's Dan Lozano, bemoan the risk to his client's "livelihood" with a smaller offer than expected. Good God - where's the sanity. Back to reality though, as fans, we toss all that aside as long as our team wins. But then should we also worry about threatening the 'livelihood' of these role players who wallow in the abyss of singel digit millions of dollars. Of course not. Those savings may beget us a star who brings us a championship, That's how it's played, this board game for real.
  21. These are the exercises I like best, none. In other words, simply no!
  22. Absolutely agree!
  23. Time will tell however I AM ENCOURAGED by these moves. Many have been wanting a change in course and here it is. I don't expect a smooth road but do anticipate an advancing program. As the FO said at their hires, the goal was to build a long term model of success. Now the next phase is to unleash the staff onto the players to improve performance and then to build a roster that fits this model. Again I'm encouraged.
  24. Exactly my thoughts. Once the coaching staff becomes a team, I think it could be a very good one.
