  1. Thanks, Seth, for a very interesting article. I wish Jeff all the best in 2016. It amazes me how his little adjustment was so positive for him. Too bad for the Twins it didn't come earlier. Also, I hope you continue this with other former Twins.
  2. Forgot to add this. Thanks for bringing up Meyer, as he seems to have been the forgotten talent this off-season.
  3. Nice article, Cody. However, I believe that the Twins are not quite ready to give up on him as a starter. I don't know the number of SP candidates, nor RP, for Rochester, but I think that is where he'll start. Last year the bullpen was intended, at least suggested, to straighten him out. The new pitching coach may be given a chance to right the ship first. At least that is my hope for 2016. If he can't succeed, then off to the BP.
  4. Good article. Great responses. BTW thanks for the laughs! I don't think the experience of winning is the problem as many of the young guys have been on winning and championship teams. I think is more toward the adjustment to ML baseball. 2016 may not be the year, but the future definitely is much brighter than we've seen for many years.
  5. Chief, I have to agree. When it comes to the FO, I can give them a pass on the lack of information much of the time, especially with possible trades or signings. But when it comes to the ball club, I think this lack of information is disheartening and frustrating. One would think that the Twins would want to promote their team during the off-season generating interest and anticipation for the upcoming season. I don't understand why updates about player activities should be so hard to come by. Either they need a better PR department that knows how and wants to promote their product, (which should come from the club president) or we need better sports reporters that ask these questions. Maybe both are needed. Good grief, it's bitterly cold here, can't we get some tidbits of news that brings our thoughts to spring and summer baseball? This certainly isn't classified information.
  6. Some really interesting mound options coming. One name missing, on many other lists also, is Meyers. Do you think he is in the mix or has that ship sailed in you view? I personally think he could be the surprise in 2016.
  7. Do you really think Milone will slot into SP before Duffy? For me it would be hard to ignore his performance in 2015 and would think that this spring is important for him going north as a starter. Knowing the tendencies I'm sure the vets will be given every chance to start, but am I dreaming if I think Duffy has a legit chance to start? Also, I'm somewhat intrigued wth Joe Benson as OF depth. I realize he would have to show improvement with the bat but he could be, potentially a good 4-5 OFer. Good defense IIRC. Outside of pitching I think you're spot on for the start of the season.
  8. I'm sorry my comment hit a nerve. First, I read content not headlines to try to get the whole story. Second, I'm not put off by legitimate criticism, but some of the comments fall into the same old tired theme. Third, there seems to be a extremely short memory of moves that were made before the meetings. Finally, I just don't get too bent out of shape over one weeks activity or the lack thereof.
  9. Great post Parker. I'm sadden and yet hopeful after reading this. As others have said, the cookie-cutter approach should not be a legal philosophy on the Twins or elsewhere. I only hope they can dig up footage of Joe's HS days to get him on track again. He would be a great asset to the OF. Can you imagine an OF of Buxton, Rosario, Benson, and Kepler? Could be a Speedy Gonzales OF, or the "grass burners."
  10. IIRC didn't Fryer signed elsewhere. I think the Cards
  11. There are those that feel Plouffe has no, or very little, market value and those that feel he does. I'm not sure reading these posts there are many that are in the undecided catagory. I happen to believe he does. We shall see as the off-season unfolds.
  12. It's really a case of numbers. If as kab says there are 20 teams set at 3B, so that leaves 10 that aren't. That seems to be a substantial number. Now, Plouffes real value comes from his positioning of those teams available 3Bmen, and to a certain extant some teams that seem to be set. If he's in the top 20 of all ML 3B, then he has, should have, good value to at least 10 clubs. The question of value comes in the form of: Does Plouffe improve any teams 3B? And that will vary among teams. So we really have to look at teams individually to see what "market" is there. Only through negotiations will a value be established. My gut feeling is that he has decent value to a several clubs,
  13. I feel the need to respond to those that are concerned about certain players losing trade value because of number or usage. An asset does not lose value because one has several of them or they are not being utilized. They only way any asset loses value is if the market devalues them or that asset becomes defective. Now that doesn't mean others value the asset the same, but if there is the need or want by others there is a certain value established for it, called market value. The difference between a commodity and a ball player is that the commodity has a standard to base a value whereas a players value is difficult to establish. It all boils down to whether other teams are willing to pay our price or we are willing accept theirs. Having so or so sit or having several similar players on one team has nothing to do with loss of value, it's the market that determines that, who needs what. Let's suppose that one team has 3 available but equal ace pitchers, but there are only 15 aces in the league. The value of those 3 would be identical and would be also equal if one of those pitchers went to the BP for a period of time but maintained the skills of an ace. The difference in trade value simply comes down to demand and supply, nothing else. Not one team's quantity or usage of said player(s).
  14. I would agree with your conclusion. Paying an enormous amount of dollars or players/prospects at this juncture makes me nervous. Instead of a number1starter I might be more inclined to go after a fringe1, solid 2 starter. Still would be expensive but not quite as bad. Maybe we already have that in option 3.
  15. Just a side note on Gibson. He looked good in his last game, at least the time I was able to watch. What struck me was how his appearance looked like Tom Glavine. Oh to dream Glavine has been reincarnated on the Twins.
  16. I think the key here may be head to head match ups of the WG contending teams. In that aspect I'd have to say the Twins have the advantage. TX and LAA have 7 games with each other, (I consider those two the most competition for the WG) and each game impacts their position greater in the race. The Twins play the Angels 4 times. They need to split or better that series and do their business elsewhere, and hope the others beat each other up in a bloody draw.
  17. Yes, baseball is a funny game. As difficult as it is after a 4 game sweep of the Orioles, I have to try to temper my enthusiasm because we really don't know what comes next. So, I continue to remind myself, as Mike stated, that this is a successful year and to enjoy it all.
  18. It seems to me that there were rumors of the Twins after Cotts before the deadline. If true, makes one wonder what happened?
  19. Coming into this season the bullpen was not a major concern of mine. Had issues but looked serviceable. And while I've generally given the FO slack, this one they've failed IMO. But I also have to question Molitors decisions here and agree with Spycake. Maybe they knew Perk was hurt so May became the closer BUT the game was most important at Arods at bat. Some of Mollies decision seem suspect lately and surely he must share some blame.
  20. I believe Berrios doesn't have to be added until after the 2016 season.
  21. I'm not a pitcher, only pitched a short time in college way back, but is it the mental aspect that makes it difficult for many pitchers to execute the inside pitch? (Note: As a lefty I couldn't throw a straight ball if my life depended on it.) Now it seems to me I that with the numerous repetitions they have had over the years that if they can hit the outside corner they should be able to pitch inside off the plate. My unsubstantiated guess is they are afraid to hit someone and put them on base. Some of that might be the team culture.
  22. Talking about how TR should have done this or trade for that player, we sometimes overlook the difficulty in accomplishing that. We need to keep in mind trades don't happen as easy as trading bubblegum cards or fantasy league players. Here is an interesting article at MLB Trade Rumors on the Tulo trade to Toronto: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/08/price-tulowitzki-trades-blue-jays.html Now, given that, while I agree somewhat the cautious approach this deadline, I do wonder if TR has laid the good groundwork for future trades needed to complete the building of this team. He has managed some good trades, and some lousy ones, but the frequency makes me wonder if he is basically adverse to trading. This offseason will be a key for me. I hold out hope that he makes the difficult decisions necessary to move this team into the elite category going forward.
