You're saying that if you eliminate the productive part of his game he's not productive. Okay.

Per Phil Miller of the Strib Kepler's 333-foot dinger is the Twins' shortest since MLB began tracking that in 2008.

As of now he has hit 12 HR in 33 games played. If he plays 120 games that translates to 43 HR. That is valuable.

I think it's highly likely that's where he will be next season and beyond, playing 2B regularly.

This is veering a bit off topic, but since Babe Ruth was the first name mentioned in this thread I'll voice my belief that he is the best baseball player ever. There are four aspects to baseball: pitching, batting, fielding, and baserunning. It can be fairly argued that Ruth was surpassed by others in batting, but not by much if at all. Fielding and baserunning are far less important, and certainly there are others in the best-ever conversation who were better than Ruth. However, consider the most important aspect, pitching. Ruth was not an average pitcher, he was outstanding. Factoring that in, no other player has ever come close to him as an all-around baseball player.

I'll echo what has been said several times. As of this moment Cleveland is the second AL wild card team. It's highly unlikely they would let Hand go.

Rogers did pitch two innings less than 24 hours previously but he has the best stuff of anyone in the bullpen. I'm guessing Rocco also felt that he was the best one to bring into the game in the middle of an inning. With the off day on Monday there were two days to rest his arm. I'm sure he was not going to have Rogers pitch the ninth inning no matter what happened. When you are the manager there are times when you roll the dice. Sometimes you succeed, sometimes you don't. This case was a don't, but even then with our offense we had a better chance of winning an extra-inning game than the Royals. So I don't fault Rocco for bringing in Rogers.

Of course that would be great. But we would have had to give up top-line youngsters (plural) to get him. Like Polanco and Kepler and probably more. 2017 was not the time to do that. And as I said, it's a moot point because he would not have approved a trade to come here anyway. But making a similar trade now, to get an ace with a longish contract, is something I would strongly support.
-
This describes me. In 2017 many on this board were very upset that we didn't try to trade for Verlander. I was against that because it would have only slightly improved our small chance of winning a World Championship and the cost would have been high. (Verlander would not have waived his no-trade clause to come here anyway.) That was then, this is now. In spite of the fact that we have the best record in baseball our pitching needs an upgrade if we want to contend for a world championship. Our current roster will almost certainly get us into the postseason. I don't think anyone feels the need to add a position player. It's all about improving the pitching staff, more specifically configuring it for postseason success. That means relievers are the primary targets. Making significant upgrades will come at a price that is worth paying. I don't know enough about specific prospects or about who is available to name names but the time has come.

When Adrianza beat Houston and Verlander with a home run I thought it was just a blind squirrel occurrence. Now between him and Marwin we can give any non-catcher a day off and not lose a thing offensively.

Removing nicotine may make it less likely players will use tobacco, but nicotine is not what causes cancer. It's all the other toxic stuff in tobacco that does that.

Article: Miguel Sano: A Fading Superstar
Nine of twelve replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I know this is venturing off-topic but I've come around to the point of view that this is OK if it's a close game because in that case the primary purpose of doing it is to try to give your team a chance of winning the game. Breaking up the no-hitter is just collateral damage. Edit: And BTW if it happens in the first 3 or 4 innings nobody would think twice about it.- 114 replies

So does "fading superstar" mean he's going to be "only a star"? If so I think we all can live with that.- 114 replies

That and getting good pitching. Pitching matters much more in the postseason than in the regular season. The starting rotation is reduced to four pitchers and most teams have made upgrades to their staffs via trades. The saying that good pitching will beat good hitting is not just hot air, either. Look what Verlander and Cole did to us when Houston was in town.

Being in one of the two weakest divisions in MLB and being paired with the other one in interleague play means to me that a 100-win season is a very realistic possibility.
