  1. Google makes it look like he's in the Baltimore organization.
  2. Shame on all of us who didn't think of that before you did.
  3. Saw this on a t-shirt once. https://i.stack.imgur.com/Pxjq6.jpg
  4. I'll probably be home in time to catch the last inning or two on TV. Of course I'll be clicking back and forth to watch UMD beat OSU as well.
  5. The only other thing would have been one more run in the 9th inning of the first game.
  6. The first game thread of the season, the true indicator that spring is here. Thanks, RB!
  7. The perfect lineup starts by replacing Dozier with Buxton in the leadoff spot.
  8. Of course I had to look it up. Allan Anderson went 7.1 innings at defending AL Champion Oakland, giving up 1 (earned) run to get the win.
  9. There are 60 teams needed for the 30 home openers. That means the average number each team plays is 2. Some play 1, some play 3. 4 would be unusual; I wonder if that's ever happened.
  10. This will be the last time for about ten years that Berrios doesn't open the season.
  11. Choosing Gibson to start the second game doesn't necessarily mean the team thinks he's the second best starter.
  12. There is almost always a scheduled day off on the day following a home opener so the game can be rescheduled if necessary with no loss of ticket revenue.
  13. My wild-@$$ prediction is that Busenitz will be lights out at Rochester and be the call-up when a new reliever is needed due to injury or performance issues.
  14. I'm sure your lifetime ban proposal is well intended, but I'll go to your last paragraph and be devil's advocate. Do you suppose an up-and-coming player would be capable of spiking a rival's food during spring training? Making the penalty more severe for the player who tests positive increases the incentive for something like that.
  15. I remember googling stanozolol when Ervin went down. If you are juicing this is not the drug to take. Apparently it is almost always detected and the test is very specific for that drug.
  16. This is why pitch to contact is the right approach for many pitchers. True power pitchers are excepted, of course, but if you're not able to get a lot of K's you're better off inducing easy grounders and fly balls early in the count.
  17. If Falvine had known a few months ago that we'd get Morrison they'd have traded him then. The best we're going to do now is get a low-level prospect from a team that really wants him because every GM in baseball knows he'll be available in two weeks. The only question is which team will pick him up. Or if he goes to Japan to mash big time for a year or two.
  18. I think the FO has the goal of creating an organization that supports a major league team that can legitimately contend in the postseason every year. That's a nearly unattainable goal even for a high-revenue team but it's what we should aspire to. It all comes down to scouting (which directs drafting, trading, and free agent signings) and player development.
  19. Haven't read through the thread yet, but I'll make this observation. It's rare for a team to have a significant postseason run with no left handed starting pitcher. It would not surprise me to see the front office trade for one if the team looks strong during the month of July.
  20. IIRC, Sanchez' contract is not guaranteed. With the acquisition of Odorizzi and now Lynn the likelihood of him being on the 25-man coming out of ST is nil. He'll wind up receiving little of his $2.5M so that brings the expenditures to less than $24M. I agree that the course Falvine followed is a better bang for the bucks.
  21. I mostly agree. I think it's good for most batters to go for a higher launch angle, but it shouldn't be pushed for all players. The bat control experts, like Carew was, can Wee-Willie-Keeler the ball past shifts. There aren't as many players like that as there used to be but a good hitting coach should recognize that and not try to do too much launch angle tinkering.
  22. Says you. Every few years I get an inexplicable feeling about a certain player. This year it's Polanco. Of course, I could turn out to be very wrong, but I think he'll be similar to last year's Eddie Rosario, doing much better than most people think he could.
