  1. Varland and Buxton were my picks to click. Server must have been down earlier when I posted..
  2. I agree. Being caught in this never-ending cycle of “anything can happen” mediocrity is brutal…it simply postpones the process of building something truly good.
  3. In an unlikely fashion, our two plucky Minnesotan pitchers just had their ERA’s merge before our very eyes…at 7 and change.
  4. 7 hits, 4 walks, a HR, and 6 runs, in 3 innings in his last start for the Saints. How can you NOT give the spot start to Louie?? I realize the pick’ins are slim over in St Paul, but at least Boushley has kinda earned the chance…his AAA results have been light years better than Varlands. What do we expect of Louie? Will be go with the approach that didn’t work at AAA…or the approach that didn’t work with the Twins?
  5. In his defense, he’s taken only right turns at first base for about 3 weeks straight. The left caught him completely by surprise.
  6. Despite what watching this club would lead you to believe…it’s not illegal to score a few runs on good pitchers.
  7. That…and the fact that the Yankees are way, way better than them. Light years.
  8. A month ago, I thought this. I don’t anymore. The scary thing is…they are also a much younger team than the Twins.
  9. Buxton earning a day off the old fashioned way… by being terrible for two weeks.
  10. Unfortunately, he makes the opponent’s pitcher much better, as well.
  11. Sitting at wRC+ of 83. Not really that close to average.
  12. That would be well over his career average…he gives no indication of this. Won’t come close to that without a sustained hot period (with HR’s in bunches)…the likes of which we haven’t seen from him for a long time.
  13. I see the Guardians and Royals decided not to play today. Smart.
  14. Best player on the club. Hopefully he is realizing and accepting that he is the leader of this club. He said this was Buxton’s club when he signed…which was the right thing to say. But it clearly isn’t anymore (if it ever really was).
  15. Regarding doubt number 3…back in the lineup today! Thankfully.
  16. So one year then. He played more than 92 games in CF exactly once. Although he wasn’t quite an average hitter that year. His 105 career wRC+ speaks for itself. The bat has always been overhyped. Here’s the narrative: “every good week/month/2-month stretch he’s had is because he’s healthy…and every bad week/month/2-month stretch he’s has is because he’s hurt”. That narrative is almost a perfect example of how a player gets overhyped. No arguing the defense. I just wish he could complete a full-ish season.
  17. If by pleased you mean a league average-ish hitter with good center field defense…yes. He’s currently below league average despite favorable batted ball luck. Still, I WOULD be pleased with that. But it’s completely theoretical. It’s never happened…he’s had one season where he was healthy enough to play anything more than half a season in center, and that year he was solidly below average offensively.
  18. The primary reason it’s not worth the process is the time he misses…which is easily greater than the time he plays. It prevents the club…or provides an excuse/reason…to not invest in a legitimate major-league center fielder. So instead, MORE than half the club’s games…every year…are played by the likes of Jake Cave and Castro, an out-of-position Kepler or a retread hopeful.
  19. Better start hitting HR’s if he’s going to get anywhere near 120. His wRC+ has always been extremely reliant on high HR%. He’s had streaks, but he’s never been able to maintain BA/OBP…to inconsistent and too K prone. It’s all about the SLG for him. And his career wRC+ is 105
  20. If he can’t run the bases aggressively and play defense aggressively, what value does he have?
  21. Been doing more than just ‘surviving’ lately. The club will be going from 2 of the worse pitching staffs to one of the best (in terms of ERA) in Boston. So, the jury is definitely still out on the bats. The good news is, that they seem to be playing better…baserunning, defense, bullpen, etc…so, maybe we start winning a little more frequently against the contenders as well.
