  7. I'm relatively confident that last number is higher based on what I've heard rumbling about over the past week. Which makes me think the first two numbers are probably higher, too.

  9. I’m of the opinion that a good way to regret something is to sign a 30+ year old sketchy defensive catcher to a long term deal. I’m a solid pass on Contreras, especially given the fact he’s literally the only good catching option this off-season. Someone is going to overpay for his services because he’s the only legit option and I hope it’s not the Twins. Jeffers and someone like Narvaez is fine for 2023.
  10. I’m of the opinion they have far too much open payroll this off-season to just pass on legitimately addressing shortstop. People are overrating the likelihood of Royce Lewis becoming even a decent starting shortstop. I think he has legit tools to become a good MLB player but putting it all together at shortstop is a much higher bar than elsewhere on the field.
  11. I'll be quite angry if Option A ends up being their plan. I'm completely down with this move so long as it's meant to be Option B or C as outlined in this story. A team like the Twins will not win with Kyle Farmer as their Opening Day shortstop.
  12. The Twins won't get much for Max and I'm okay with that. The org has so many left-handed corner OF and Max has worn out his welcome with me.
  13. There's a lot of money off the books right now and a front office that hasn't impressed me with an aggressiveness to go get "their guy". Color me skeptical. While in a vacuum trading Urshela isn't a terrible idea, I would have rather seen Kepler head out of Minnesota.
  14. You mean when they played in a Teflon dome and were in the bottom quarter of payroll constantly while their owner tried to fold the franchise? Yeah. Things changed a little.
  15. I think they've realized they need to alter their approach, at least in this particular case. They need a shortstop - a good shortstop - and if they use their previous approach, they'll end up acquiring a left fielder in January and miss out on every good shortstop.
  16. To be clear, if it's a starting point, it's an impressive offer. Better than I expected from this front office by a fair margin. But if it's their only offer, it won't get it done.
  17. I have semi-reliable information the Twins have made an offer to Correa. I'm not going to report the number, that will be on the front page soon, but it's a solid fifth-place offer. If it's a starting offer, it's pretty reasonable. If it's all the Twins offer, he's gone.
  18. No, she seems genuinely uncomfortable with baseball using FG’s stats to pay its players. It puts a scary amount of weight on their system that it wasn’t intended to be. What if they tweak their system and undervalue relievers for a couple of years? That could cost people literally tens of millions of dollars. And the WAR systems were never intended to be exact measures of performance, they’re more “shotgun” than “sniper rifle”. If MLB wants to pay based on WAR, they should hire the requisite people to create their own system with the MLBPA. They’re cheaping out and placing the burden on people who don’t want the responsibility.
