  1. I don't see how Pinto can be taken out of the lineup at this point. The guy has done nothing but rake since hitting the Majors. You let that guy just keep on keepin' on.
  2. This would be my group as well. If we're including Senators, I'd bump Mauer for Johnson with the expectation that Mauer might someday replace Carew.
  3. Second verse, same as the first. 188th verse... same as the first. Joe Mauer has a career .933 OPS with runners in scoring position. Joe's overall career OPS is .870.
  4. Instead, they're taking risks on signing more second-tier guys. It's not a bad strategy, all considering. It landed them guys like Lewis Thorpe. Overall, I find it pretty hard to criticize the Twins' international activity over the past few years. Do I agree with every decision? No, not necessarily... but the Twins' strategy looks to be fundamentally solid.
  5. Something doesn't seem to be right with Pelfrey. Previous to 2014, his career low in average fastball speed was 92.0 and sat at 92.4 last season. This season? It's 91.0. He's also throwing that slower fastball a whopping 79.3% of the time, compared to 72.6% last season. Age or injury, I have no idea... But he has lost a considerable amount of velocity and, for some reason, is relying more on that not-so-fastball.
  6. It just won't happen. It would take a Bogaerts-type player for Ryan to let go of Sano and the Sox would have to be insane to trade Bogaerts for anybody. Inversely, the Twins would have to be insane to trade Sano for anybody. Hence we find ourselves in a situation where top prospects never get traded for top prospects.
  7. Mike Trout is not represented by Scott Boras. I'll trade part of a season from a 24 year old Alex Meyer for the entirety of his age 30 season.
  8. Yep. I couldn't care less about Super 2 status. That's just being cheap. But that extra year of control? That's worth delaying a player's call-up.
  9. I'm not sure Meyer is going to be on any kind of innings limit. Maybe if he gets to 170+ innings, they might shelve him for the season but I don't think they're going to be overly cautious with his arm.
  10. Possible, I only wonder if the Twins might be reluctant to promote early because he's not on the 40 man. Either way, I'm not terribly concerned about it. I think they'll have him in Minnesota at some point this season.
  11. That should be Nick's address, yes. He probably hasn't had time to read his email and/or respond. It's best to engage him via Twitter, I think. You're most likely to get a response through that channel.
  12. Right now, I see two guys in front of Meyer. Johnson and Deduno. May still has a lot to prove before he gets the call. Darnell isn't in the conversation, IMO. Either way, I expect to see Meyer at some point this season... Probably September unless everyone in front of him crumbles. Next season, it wouldn't surprise me to see him in the rotation on Opening Day.
  13. Yep. Mauer HAS to be on this list. He has a slightly higher WAR than Oliva in 4-5 less seasons. He played catcher and did it at a high level. Their adjusted OPS+ is almost identical (133 to 135). It's unfortunate that Oliva's career was derailed by injury but Mauer is the better player, period.
  14. Okay. I need to go to bed. Either I'm drunk or that's the funniest thing I've ever seen. I can't stop laughing.
  15. "Not making an out" is not synonymous with "hits are equal to walks". There are varying degrees of not making an out. What's most important is that you don't make the out at all but that doesn't mean everything after that point is equal.
  16. This looks more real by the day. Five runs scored today... On four hits. Oh, also eight walks.
  17. Given how early it is in the season, Johnson is probably the best bet.
  18. The team was in a tough position at that point. Santana and Hunter were close to leaving, Morneau and Mauer were due contracts in the next few years. I'm not really a fan of how it all went down but giving Hunter the money he got from the Angels would have been a massive risk.
  19. It's possible but I think the Veteran Love Torch may have been passed to Pelfrey. Just a hunch.
  20. If you look at the last six months, the Twins have been pretty ruthless with their demotions, cuts, and waivers. I don't think they hold any special place for the likes of Correia.
  21. St Paul, for all I care.
  22. I think Correia's starting days are numbered. He has a lot of bullpen experience and that ERA of almost 8 is completely unacceptable. It wouldn't surprise me to see the team make a move if his next start is a bad one. But I have no idea who replaces him at this point. Lots of options, limited roster space.
  23. Yep. I respect a lot of what Cameron says but when he's wrong, he'll just keep doubling down on stupid until it's hard to take anything he says seriously anymore. Unfortunate, because he's a pretty smart guy and could be a great writer if he could let go of the hubris.
  24. Yep. As Cameron points out, pitchers are going after the Twins' hitters based on zone percentage, the hitters just aren't swinging often unless they get something they can hit. That's a very good sign.
  25. Not the title, but it could be. It's about how the Twins have simply stopped swinging at pitches and reaped rewards for it. Good stuff. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-twins-new-plan-dont-swing/
