    You were dead-on about Kubel, Nick. He still has value as a bench bat, occasional DH/OH guy but it's pretty apparent that he can no longer play every day or anything close to it.

    Neither Polanco nor Goodrum look to have an impact in the next 2-3 years. One of them could be in Minnesota in two years but it's unlikely he's an impact player (or even a good starter) at that point. Escobar, eh. I view him as a utility guy (which, when you really get down to it, is how I view Santana as well).

    I like the Twins' chances tonight and Thursday. Tomorrow? Maybe not so much. Then again, Doubront has been almost as bad as Correia.

    ERA is not a good metric for relievers. Crain was very good with the Twins in his last season with the team. He was slightly better with the White Sox. It's not an enormous gulf and Anderson got good results from him before he left for free agency. I agree that some pitchers have had better results after leaving the team but it's not a cut-and-dry situation... not even close. For every Kyle Lohse, there is a Carlos Silva or Eric Milton.

    While there is some truth to pitcher success after leaving the Twins, this list is pretty badly constructed and is omitting a lot of details. RA Dickey - Okay, he had success with the Mets. We get that. He also suddenly refined a knuckle, much to the Mets' surprise. It's not as if the pitching coach taught him something magical... All claims to Dickey's sudden dominance are laid at Dickey's own feet. Kyle Lohse - They gave up on him too soon but Anderson got some good seasons out of him and you're not adjusting for league or time frame during a period of general offensive decline. Those numbers look a lot worse than what actually happened with Kyle. Vance Worley - Why is he even on this list? Grant Balfour - The Twins let him go because he was injured. No other reason. Jesse Crain - He had a fantastic final season with the Twins as he matured into his stuff. He left for pay concerns and continued posting similar numbers for the White Sox, though slightly better. Pat Neshek - Again, injury concerns and he was pretty awful for quite some time. Good to see him back up and I didn't want the Twins to release him in the first place. Francisco Liriano - Ugly decision last year, for sure... But then again, he's not very good so far this season. Time will tell whether 2013 was for real or just Liriano being a human yo-yo again. Luis Ayala - He got better later on but to be fair, his one season with the Twins was the best season he had in three years.

    While I agree that the roster has been badly mismanaged, it's hard to call this season a disaster. After all, the team is currently sitting at 17-19 after playing a pretty tough stretch of games to start the season.

    Sure. From what I know of Vargas, he can "play" first base the same way Ortiz or Fielder "play" first base on occasion.

    And that's fair. Personally, I wouldn't sign Dozier yet. If he's still hitting in May of 2015, then I'd consider buying out his arb + 1 years as a goodwill gesture toward an above average complementary player.

    Everything I've read about the guy suggests that he's a terrible defender. Minor league position just doesn't mean that much. They put players where they can get ABs, not necessarily where they should be playing in a perfect scenario.

    Blackburn-like? Not so much. What Dozier is doing is sustainable; what Nick Blackburn was doing was not sustainable. The biggest question about Dozier right now is the power but even if it turns from home run power to gap power, he's still an above average player by a considerable margin. Dozier has a skillset that suggests he'll continue to produce at a decent level. Nick Blackburn's skillset was "luck".

    It has less to do with being wrong and more to do with gloating when you're right. Lots of us are right about a multitude of things, though we tend not to throw it in other people's faces when it happens.

    You're putting an awful lot of stock in three innings that resulted in three put-outs.

    Sam Deduno. Lots of bullpen guys. While I think Anderson has had success in the past and continues to get good performances out of his bullpens, it's hard to say anything positive about his rotations over the past few years. Sure, part of that is talent. The Twins haven't given him anything to work with in recent years. Still, it's hard to excuse just how awful the rotation has been over the past three seasons.

    Plouffe has looked a lot better this season and is posting a positive WAR defensively and offensively. I doubt he'll ever be great but he's a decent enough player to stick at third through his prime seasons.

    I don't see how Hicks doesn't get sent down at this point. Originally, I wanted to see him in AAA to establish himself after a lost season but when the team let it ride on Aaron in spring training, I figured "what the hell, let the kid play". Obviously, that just isn't working.

    Yep. For all the condemnation of Plouffe, he's always flirting with league average numbers. Sometimes a little over (2012), sometimes a little under (2013). Thus far in 2014, he's right around league average.

    Colabello should be on the bench. Ride him through a hot streak and then put him back in a bench role when he cools off. He has a decent chance of being a bench bat, though it's unfortunate that the Twins roster currently has a stockpile of guys who should be bench bats.

    Sure. Right now, there's a lot of white noise in pythag records. The Twins could be 19-17 or they could be 15-21 with the same runs scored/allowed ratios. I was just pointing out that they're currently in line with their expected win-loss record.
