  1. Columbus, OH is 141 miles from Progressive Field. I chose the number 100 very specifically. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Progressive+Field,+2401+Ontario+St,+Cleveland,+OH+44115/Columbus,+OH/@40.7287831,-82.8632032,9z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x8830fa86b610f6ed:0x52dcb50dc0cf3385!2m2!1d-81.685229!2d41.496211!1m5!1m1!1s0x883889c1b990de71:0xe43266f8cfb1b533!2m2!1d-82.9987942!2d39.9611755
  2. That Santana plays a mean baseball.
  3. Fair enough. Really, it all boils down to "the Twins don't need a 35 year old reliever on the roster right now, doubly so at the expense of an outfielder". I think we can all agree on that point. And, in my eyes, Pedro Florimon has no business being within 100 miles of an MLB roster right now. It's inexcusable that he's on the roster.
  4. I've said multiple times that this situation is ridiculous... But it could have been offset by demoting Herrmann/Florimon and calling up Arcia/Nunez. A perfect solution? No. Enough to get them through a couple games until Hicks returns? Yes.
  5. They lost Brooks Raley. To keep Matt Guerrier. Okay, have at it, boys. I'm done defending anything this front office does right now. Unbelievable. I don't even care about Brooks Raley but MATT GUERRIER?
  6. Eh, having two centerfielders go down with 7-day concussion DL injuries in the same week isn't something that most teams are equipped to handle. But they had an opportunity to patchwork together a roster for a couple of games while Hicks gets ready to return and they... Call up a reliever? Are they trolling us?
  7. I don't fault them for not DLing Mauer. But I do fault them for not getting Arcia and Nunez on this roster. That in itself would help this situation immensely and all it requires is the demotion of two really really bad baseball players (Chris Herrmann and Pedro Florimon). And for crying out loud, Arcia and Nunez were 100 miles away.
  8. Agreed, Pseudo. The Matrix isn't a good comp because that was almost entirely plot-driven. The characters were unremarkable. In my opinion, a better comp to True Detective is a movie I loved from the 2000s, Children of Men. Strong, interesting characters navigating a plot that isn't fully explained to the audience. Nor did it need to be explained, in my opinion. I view True Detective as a piece that took us through a journey of character exploration, not the resolution of a murder mystery. The murder mystery added intrigue to the piece but it wasn't the point of the series and I'm okay with brushing over a few details in favor of focusing on the relationship between the characters.
  9. I agree. I don't like the Guerrier move either but that doesn't mean you double down on creating unnecessary roster crunch. Calling up Arcia is the logical move in my opinion. At least the guy can hit.
  10. Parmelee requires a 40 man move. Too early to fall into that trap. Arcia, on the other hand...
  11. Swap out Nunez for Florimon and you at least have another guy who has played a handful of MLB games in the OF. There are a half dozen moves the Twins could have made to shore up this problem. None of them are great (or even good) options but they're better than what they have now.
  12. The problem with all of this is that the position player they currently have on the roster isn't ready to contribute, either.
  13. Sounds like Fuld has a headache today which spurred the choice of Escobar in CF. The Twins started Cuddyer in center for several games. Is Escobar better or worse? Honest question.
  14. God, I hope so. Gardy has every right to be furious about this roster.
  15. My point isn't that they should sign Homer Bailey, it's that giving up elite prospects for a guy who you're going to turn around and sign for Bailey money is the kind of move that should get a general manager fired. Under no circumstances is Jeff Samardzija - Kohl Stewart - $100m > Homer Bailey - $100m.
  16. Call him out for it. These moves absolutely deserve to be called out. Most of us agree on that.
  17. Here's a wild idea. Instead of giving up prospects to trade for and sign a guy who wants Bailey money, go sign Homer Bailey.
  18. Ryan is with the team in the ballpark every day. We have no idea at what level he is participating in decisions. And even if it's Antony who made the call, it's a minor decision in his first two months on the job. If you think that's the kind of thing that gets a guy fired, you're going to have a hard time retaining any employees.
  19. The "grand scheme of things" involves two months where we're not even sure what decisions are being made by Antony and what decisions are being made by Ryan. A bit premature, don't you think? I'm not defending this move (or Escobar starting in center today, ugh) but calling for a guy's head when you don't even know for sure that any of this was his call is a knee-jerk reaction to the situation.
  20. Deduno was the Twins' best pitcher when healthy last season. He deserves the first shot at an open spot in the rotation.
  21. In the grand scheme of things, it's trivial. It's a "mistake" that can be reversed today if need be. This isn't a Capps/Ramos situation that cannot be undone. I don't like the move one bit but calling for a guy's head over it is absurd.
  22. Ugh. We don't even know for sure that this was his decision. Besides, even if it was his decision, everyone is going to make stupid mistakes at a new job. If he's still making these kinds of moves next year (provided he's the one who made the move at all), then you talk about moving on because he's obviously not capable at the position. If people on this forum managed large numbers of people the way they suggest the Twins manage their operation, they'd have no workers left because they would have fired everybody for trivial offenses.
  23. Hard to say. My guess is that either Meyer or May will be up before August 1st. Which one it is depends on performance, strength, and 40 man roster space. It's also possible that both are up by August 1st.
  24. In all honesty, the move for Guerrier doesn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that the team needs more position players right now. I wouldn't have an issue with this if they even swapped Florimon for Nunez with the promise that more moves were on the way. I'm not hard to please but with the offense in the shape it's in right now, the Twins badly need bats. Or move Herrmann for Arcia. Just do something to patch up the offense.
  25. He mocked GATG for wanting to talk about the Twins. Good stuff. [video=youtube;ySF1j-noLQg]
