    I'd be happy to watch an 80 win team next year. Progress rarely happens overnight. If the Twins can go from 66 to 72-74 to 80-82 wins from 2013-2015, one has to consider that a success. Would I like to see more wins next year? Sure, but I consider forward progress to be just that, forward progress. Teams rarely go from 72 to 90 wins in a season; expecting the Twins to magically do that is setting yourself up for disappointment.

    It really depends on how he finishes the year. He's currently OPSing under .600. I don't see him getting $10m if he finishes the season under .700. Which is why I think he might be a good buy low candidate. Teams aren't going to line up for a 31 year old DH who sat out half a season and OPSed around league average. It could be a good opportunity for the Twins to pick up a solid complementary bat (hard to believe Morales won't rebound somewhat in 2015) on the cheap.

    Yeah. The more I think about it, replacing Willingham with Morales for similar money isn't the worst idea in the world. Of course, this all hinges on what Boras is telling Morales but after last season's debacle, it wouldn't shock me if they erred on the side of caution instead of holding out through the offseason. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if Morales was more interested in a 1 year $8m deal than 2 for $14m and that deal is more in the Twins' favor as well.

    I wonder about this. Is Morales interested in a one year make good deal? At this point, he's a decent buy low candidate, much like Hughes was last season. He put himself in a position to fail (thanks, Scott Boras!) in 2014 and it's going to hurt his value this offseason. I don't think the Twins need another plodding DH-type but depending on the money involved, it could be a savvy pick-up, if only to dish Morales off next July (assuming the Twins are not in contention). Would he take a 1 year $8m deal? What about 2 years, $14m? At what price point do you consider bringing back Morales?

    Or maybe he just likes it here. He wouldn't be the first player to talk up how much he likes the Twins clubhouse. But no, Morales is not a good fit going forward. I'm glad he likes it here but with Arcia, Pinto, Mauer, and Vargas, there isn't much room for another plodder on this roster.

    I was so bloody disappointed that Berrios didn't go out for the second inning. I wanted to see how he fared after batters got a better look at him. Was pretty unimpressed with Meyer. Nice fastball velo but he wasn't fooling anybody.

    An interesting player, no doubt. He profiles a lot like Revere but in a way I can stomach much more than Revere's swing-happy-run-it-out style of play, which tends to falter through a player's late 20s. Given the current CF situation, I could think of a lot worse guys to take a flyer on and see what happens. I doubt O'Neill will ever be a starter in MLB because he's not particularly good in the field and with a stature like pre-Super-Soldier-serum Captain America, he's never going to hit for power. But as a fourth outfielder and bench bat? That might work.

    They need to finalize the Futures Game rosters ahead of time. With May being a question mark and Meyer on-hand to take his place, it made sense to swap the two players.

    A whole lot better? Unlikely. Last season, Correia pitched close to 200 innings with an ERA just a hair under league average. Most teams - even contenders - don't have that as a fifth starter, if only for consistency. Correia was good for a win and a half over replacement level last season. That's nothing to scoff at.

    You said "at the time of the injury". May wasn't added to the DL until 4-5 days after the injury.

    There's a decent chance we still haven't passed the super two cutoff this season. Everybody has been wrong about the date. "The Super Two cutoff used to stand at 17%, but got changed to 22% in the new CBA negotiations. This means that if a team wants to keep a player in the minors until after the Super Two cutoff, they will have to keep that player in the minors for even longer than before. Considering that the cutoff used to fall sometime in June — it varied from year to year, as the 17% cutoff isn’t tied to a specific date — it will likely end up being in July going forward." http://www.fangraphs.com/library/business/super-two/

    There was an update that the injury was more serious than expected, which is when May was put on the DL. Since then, I haven't heard anything. But it's a calf strain. As far as pitching injuries go, that one isn't very scary.

    I don't see how last year's time in Minnesota did anything but help Gibson. It's easy to fall into a comfort zone and stop learning if you're dominating inferior talent. Challenging someone is the easiest way to spur the learning process and MiLB baseball has a talent ceiling well below MLB, where the hitters are smarter, faster, and trickier. With that said, I'm not screaming that Meyer isn't up yet. It's fine that Pino got his shot... But at the end of the day, it should be "a shot" and nothing more. Pino has been adequate but Meyer and May are bigger talents. Pino shouldn't be blocking the progress of either of those two players in August because they're the ones who will be on the Twins roster for the next 6-7 years, pitching every fifth day. Whether Pino is better in 2014 should have little or no bearing on that decision because the 2014 Twins are not going to the playoffs.

    I agree that Willingham won't bring a big haul (unless he really gets hot in next two weeks) but I think AL teams will show more interest because of the inherent flexibility of the DH.

    Oh boy, I disagree. If WIN NOW nets you 75 wins this year (instead of 70) but hinders your prospect develop to the tune of 3 wins next year and 5 more the following year, WIN NOW doesn't make a lick of sense. It's a balancing act. I believe teams - unless they're in full fire sale mode - should always try to field a respectable roster. But if you're a 74 win team with a 32 year old pitcher who *might* be worth 1-2 more wins in the next two months but have a promising young pitcher who almost surely will be worth 5-6 *more* wins over the next 3-4 seasons, you go with the promising kid because the longterm investment is more important than WIN NOW.

    I also see a situation where league drives value. An AL team is almost certainly going to pay more for Willingham, as they can rotate him through DH to keep him fresh. An NL team has to roll him into left every day and cross their fingers.

    The guy had also pitched over 1300 professional innings before he donned a Yankees uniform. That's a lot of innings for a guy who's barely 25.
