  1. Welcome! You can find the lurkers and rookies thread here: http://twinsdaily.com/showthread.php/9182-Lurkers-and-rookies-please-post-here
  2. I don't agree with this at all. Remember, LaTroy Hawkins was once a fireballer with bad secondary stuff. He failed miserably as a starter. Relievers can get by with two pitches. MLB hitters will catch up to starters who can't fool them with multiple pitches. (not making the argument that Meyer should stay in the minors, just pointing out that secondary stuff is needed to succeed)
  3. Agreed. Opening one hole to fill another seems foolish to me, even if I think closers are ridiculously overrated. Nick Burdi comes to mind... But having Burdi in the eighth and Perkins in the ninth makes for a shut-down bullpen.
  4. I don't see a large value difference between Perkins today and Perkins 16 months from now, provided he stays healthy. I say hold on to Perkins until more information is available. If the Twins magically compete next season (or show signs they will compete in 2016), they'll regret having traded their best reliever, a Minnesota native under a team-friendly contract.
  5. Thanks, everybody. I think I've narrowed down the offending network. I have reached out to them, waiting for a response.
  6. Yep. Sure does. I'll contact that network in the morning.
  7. Is anyone still having an issue with noisy ads? I reached out to the network that I believe was displaying those awful things. I haven't heard back yet but I haven't seen any of those ads run today (but I rarely saw them at all so there's that).
  8. Ortiz was pretty highly regarded as a prospect, he simply couldn't stay healthy in Minnesota. AAAA guys sometimes turn out to be good players, yes... But the overwhelming majority of the time, they cause roster logjams as they run out of options (forcing themselves onto the 40 man) and clog the high minors. I'm not saying Ryan should outright reject any player who isn't a lock to become a quality MLB player, I'm simply pointing out that "making a trade for a trade's sake" isn't necessarily a good plan, particularly in an organization that already has a glut of AAAA - and much better than AAAA - players, as it forces a lot of tough decisions that might slow down the progress of your real prospects as you clamor to keep guys on the 40 man who were acquired via trade in the last 12 months.
  9. Yep. I've also been frustrated with past deadlines but the phrase "it takes two to tango" seems like the most likely cause for the lack of movement. Ryan won't give players away and I commend him for that trait. The downside is that it means you aren't going to see as much trade action as you'd like to see. Personally, I'll take the higher return on less trades than stuffing the MiLB system with backfill players. If you can't get more than a AAAA player in the high minors for Willingham, does it make sense to move him? Given the Twins' farm system virtually bursting at the seams with good players - much less marginal ones - I'm not so sure those kinds of moves make sense. (Willingham is merely an example; in no way am I advocating that the Twins retain Willingham)
  10. Interesting. If that article is accurate - and there's no reason to believe it isn't - then it sounds like trading Suzuki is the prudent move. If he won't sign a reasonable extension before the season ends, there's absolutely no reason not to trade him in the next ten days.
  11. Yes. He's an above average MLB player in his prime seasons with no replacement ready to fill his role. Trading Dozier seems very foolish to me unless the offer floors you (ie. a top 25 prospect). He's the type of player you don't necessarily build around but one that provides good numbers in a complementary role, a role too often undervalued by fans and the backbone of a winning team. Trading him now sets back the team and its timeline. Besides, if Dozier keeps hitting, his value one year from now will be virtually identical to what it is today because he'll have a longer track record of consistent performance, despite having one less year of team control.
  12. I'm a pretty big Kluwe fan but he needs to walk away and let this go, particularly after his Penn comments went public. He doesn't really have a leg to stand on at this point. Glass houses, throwing stones, and all that.
  13. Yay. Good for you. Way to undermine our main (only) source of revenue. Congratulations!
  14. Im going to reach out to our networks this week and find out why they're back. Give it a few days and hopefully they'll be gone.
  15. Indeed. People don't realize just how good the Twins system is right now. That's why I'm not necessarily in favor of trading a guy like Suzuki unless the return is great. Upside prospects are great; low upside high minor guys, the Twins don't need more of those.
  16. The Twins were fourth in the division last season.
  17. Law has always believed that... No reason to change his opinion due to the fact that Sano hasn't logged an inning in the field since he last wrote up a prospect sheet.
  18. I'm not bashing Plouffe at all. He's an adequate starter and I'm all for sticking him at third until Sano is ready. But a Koskie comp? That's a bad comparison. Koskie was a very good player. Plouffe is an adequate starter.
  19. Corey Koskie posted a combined WAR of almost 16 in his last three seasons with the Twins. Trevor Plouffe is on track to post a WAR of ~2 this season, which would be a career high.
  20. No, it really doesn't... But diehard helped me with the issue. Nothing to see here.
  21. I'm really skeptical of run-based output of catching statistics but it makes sense that Suzuki does more harm with framing than he makes up with pitch-blocking.
  22. Yep. This is why I'd strongly consider holding on to Suzuki. Do the Twins need another Sean Gilmartin in the organization if it means they put Eric Fryer behind the dish in 2015? If the offer borders on a top 100 - maybe even top 150 - prospect, then you listen. If it's more organizational filler with marginal upside, keep Kurt and extend him for 2/$14m.
  23. In Suzuki's defense, he seems to be quite good at blocking the ball in the dirt. Does that offset his framing stats? Dunno, probably not.
  24. This. Trevor Plouffe is the type of guy you're happy to have on the team until something better comes along. You don't actively pursue a replacement unless something really great is available. He's a league average player and should man third until Sano is ready to take his place. At that point, trade him or turn him into a utility player depending on how Sano looks.
  25. Yeah. I'm pretty wishy-washy on trading Suzuki because the Twins have no catching depth and the free agent market looks brutal this offseason. But, without a doubt, the option should be explored.
