  1. Ugh. I wonder if your company only updates its site list during a software update. The site is whitelisted but it's entirely up your company when it'll be usable at your work.
  2. I tried getting this functionality working earlier in the week but it didn't take. I'm going to have to approach the problem from another angle. No timetable on when I'll get it working, just wanted to mention that I'm aware of the problem and looking for a fix.
  3. Gibson failed and learned from it, true. But May hasn't failed thus far... He has been horrific. Prospects are a balancing act between failing and learning versus being completely overwhelmed. Given May's early starts, I don't see how it can be argued that he was ready 2-3 months ago if he's pitching like this now... Unless you believe that he learned absolutely nothing by pitching in Rochester. I, for one, find that pretty hard to believe. I absolutely believe that calling up May was the right move. He has to learn against MLB hitters at some point. My main point is that we thought the Twins were crazy for not calling him up in June. Obviously, they had their reasons and based on May's performance thus far, they were good reasons. It's not a giant leap of assumption to believe that the Twins might have similar sentiments about Meyer and aren't holding him in Rochester just for funsies. With that said, I'd still like to see Meyer get the call in September out of the bullpen.
  4. Do they know "best"? Probably not, as their record has reflected in past years (though it's hard to succeed without talent). Do they know "better than us"? Given the performances of Gibson and May, I think that's pretty much indisputable. My point isn't that the Twins are infallible. They certainly are not. But they certainly know a lot more about the situation than we do.
  5. It's entirely possible. The point is that he has been absolutely awful. Calling him up earlier certainly wasn't going to make him a better pitcher and the Twins - now we know rightfully - had some reservations about his promotion. It's more than a little arrogant to think we know better than the guys who watch these players every day, particularly when we as fans have been so absolutely 100% incontrovertibly wrong about the last two pitching prospects we wanted to see in Minnesota earlier than they were promoted. As fans, we need to reel in the hubris on occasion. I'm as guilty of it as anyone here... The fact is that we get to look at stat lines. The Twins get to look at the actual player.
  6. Yeah, I'm not the least bit worried about Thorpe. He's holding his own in a league of much older players.
  7. If Hughes can stay healthy and productive, he's going to be entering free agency again at age 30. He has a shot at getting a $80-100m contract. So weird to think about. It seems like the guy has been in the league for 15 years.
  8. Ah, so it was a typo. Good catch. His numbers per start were correct.
  9. Am I missing something? 36 / 5 = 7.2. Hughes should have at least six starts left this season, though you're right that it will be difficult to reach 200 Ks.
  10. I think it's hard to refute that the Twins have a long way to go... Of course, in baseball, sometimes that "long way to go" happens in a hurry. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all. The positives are that the Twins now have a handful of under-25 hitters who are performing well above average... And the best part is that only Arcia was a top prospect, which is pretty amazing. The Twins went from having an old, broken-down lineup to sporting a lineup last night with only two guys in their 30s, neither of them older than 31. And the team is no worse in the short-term for it, as Vargas and a healthy Arcia have been stinging the ball and the old man of the bunch, Joe Mauer, looks like good ol' Joe Mauer again. Lots of positives on this team, even if the win-loss difference is small. They could start contending next year or they could start contending in 2017. Hard to say and a lot depends on free agency and a multitude of variables we cannot predict right now.
  11. They are at the bottom of the page.
  12. There are "growing pains" and there are "walking 13 guys per 9 innings" situations. I believe May should be up here and struggle. My point is that all of us were on the verge of tearing our hair out because he wasn't up in early June. Well, it's pretty obvious that May shouldn't have been here in early June. It's entirely possible that the Twins know something about Meyer that we don't, such as "he can't repeat his delivery and he'll walk 13 guys every 9 innings early on".
  13. How about we just go with the actual definition of the word instead? mediocre: of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate. An average winning percentage of .550 does not qualify as "mediocre", as there are probably only 3-4 teams that have a better winning percentage over that time. Not even close to mediocre. You keep using that word and it's wrong. every. time.
  14. After watching May throw the ball everywhere but over the white part of the plate, it's entirely possible that the Twins are coming from a position of knowledge with Meyer. I want to see Meyer up here as much as anybody but after the "delays" in promoting Gibson and May and their subsequent awfulterribhorribleness in MLB the past two seasons, maybe it's time to reconsider exactly how much we know about these guys, particularly in comparison to the Twins' coaching staff that gets to watch them every day. A crazy thought, I know.
  15. The Twins averaged 86 wins during the 2000s... That's including an awful 2000 season (93 losses) and not including a very good 2010 season. Slide that scale to 2001-2010 and the average jumps to 89 wins a season. Mediocre. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
  16. There's really no reason not to do this.
  17. That's a simple sorting mechanism. Don't read too much into it. That's how databases work.
  18. I love these quick breakdowns. Great work.
  19. Getting Melky would be quite a haul. Outside of him, there aren't many interesting names out there.
  20. Well, it's time to wrap up a pretty ugly series against Cleveland. I'm not going to try to emulate RB's excellent game thread introductions so here's the skinny: - The Good: Phil Hughes is pitching. - The Bad: The Twins are facing Corey Kluber. - The Ugly: The Twins have not scored a run in their last 17 innings. Lineups: Twins: Danny Santana - SS Brian Dozier - 2B Joe Mauer - 1B Kennys Vargas - DH Oswaldo Arcia - RF Trevor Plouffe - 3B Kurt Suzuki - C Chris Parmelee - LF Jordan Schafer - CF Cleveland: Michael Bourn - CF Mike Aviles - SS Michael Brantley - LF Carlos Santana - 1B Jason Kipnis - 2B Yan Gomes - C Lonnie Chisenhall - 3B Zach Walters - DH Chris Dickerson - RF
  21. Dozier needs to be the best player he can be, not a slap-happy oppo hitter just because Gardy has a chapter in his book titled "Play Second, Hit Second". Should Dozier try to pull every ball? No, probably not... And I doubt he continues to try, as his best months came when he wasn't an extreme pull hitter. Sometimes guys go into slumps. It doesn't mean the league figured them out. It means they're in a slump.
  22. At some point, Hicks is going to need to get another shot at MLB. Personally, I'd like to see Santana start making the transition back to short as soon as possible because he's not going to stay in center. One or all of Hicks, Rosario, and Buxton are better suited to the position.
  23. As would any other GM, which drops his trade value to the point that it's not worth moving him. If Escobar repeats his 2014 and the Twins cement Santana at short, then maybe it makes sense to move him. Right now, it's taking a pretty big risk to trade the guy and rely solely on Santana going forward.
  24. Everybody should be on the block for the right price but I don't understand the desire to trade Dozier. Do some of you want the Twins to be in rebuilding mode eternally? Because that's essentially what you're advocating by suggesting the Twins should trade a young-ish cost-controlled player who is way above average.
