  1. It's absolutely hilarious because what proper Twins fan can't get a laugh out of seeing Nick Punto get punched? But it also speaks volumes about Hunter's vaunted "clubhouse presence" because Hunter vs. teammate altercations are not an uncommon occurrence.
  2. Yep, I've never heard anyone ever say a bad thing about Hawk. Sounds like a good guy all around.
  3. It all revolved around another altercation with CJ Wilson. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/scott-miller/23286878/broken-angels-tense-atmosphere-nearly-included-pujols-hunter-fight-in-2012
  4. It wasn't only Morneau. Hunter also went after Pujols when he was with the Angels. Though I often disagree with him, I appreciate some of Hunter's candor and fire but taking swings at teammates is bad form under any circumstances and Hunter has done just that on multiple occasions.
  5. While I don't think the question was well-timed, your two examples are far too prevalent at pressers. I'd much rather see someone ask tough questions - even if badly timed - than throw platitudes and softballs at every presser, which is what we usually get around these parts. Personally, I'd be the biggest Mike Berardino fan in the world had he instead asked Hunter which teammate he plans to punch first because that is baseball-related and exposes Hunter as the questionable clubhouse presence he is.
  6. That's a "moral high ground" Hunter can't claim at this point. He publicly endorsed a politician just last month based on his stance on gay marriage. One doesn't get to leverage their fame to push a personal agenda and then cry foul when others call them out for it. I'm a staunch defender of celebrities being given privacy and hold the utmost disdain for paparazzi who dig into private lives but the kid gloves come off when the celebrity willingly throws their opinion into the public domain.
  7. Well, it is news-worthy. Hunter was "officially" a Minnesota Twin for all of 15 minutes before he called a beat writer a prick. That's... not awesome.
  8. I'm not dodging anything. 1. I'm not a writer on Twins Daily and I do not speak on behalf of Nick, Parker, Seth, or John. 2. It's wildly off-topic in a thread that has gone completely off the rails.
  9. This is my last post on the subject but, again, Deadspin's credibility has absolutely nothing to do with this situation. Hunter said those things. Whether the referenced source is Deadspin or the ghost of Walter Cronkite is irrelevant.
  10. I think the question was ill-timed but I'm not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater. It's nice to see someone in Minnesota sports journalism doing their damned job for once.
  11. So Deadspin shouldn't call out people like Hunter when they disagree with them? I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Deadspin journalists have the Constitutional right to call Hunter a jerk, the same way Hunter has the right to openly state that he doesn't want gay men in the clubhouse. I'm pretty sure the term "Constitutionally protected points of view" shouldn't be used in the same sentence as despotic Communist regimes in China and North Korea because, you know, despotic regimes without Constitutional rights and all that jazz.
  12. While Deadspin absolutely loves to stir the pot on occasion, there are zero credibility issues here. Hunter said those things. That's not up for debate nor is it smearing Hunter in any way. That wasn't the first time Hunter made a comment about gay men in the clubhouse. And what the other arms of Gawker Media do has very little bearing on Deadspin. The journalists for one entity have little/no influence on the journalists for another.
  13. I assume you're using an Android device, yes?
  14. Yep. If Hunter falls apart - or is just mediocre with the bat - teams aren't going to line up to give him $4m at the deadline.
  15. I think you just summed up the problem with this signing. The easiest way to improve a pitching staff that doesn't involve actually signing better pitchers is to shore up the defense. The Twins just doubled down on an older version of Josh Willingham with a slightly better bat. It's not a terrible deal because it's a one year contract but it is disappointing to see the front office continue to ignore such a large problem.
  16. Yeah, I'm not really critical of this move so much as "what the hell is the point?" In the end, it probably won't matter a bit because Nunez either doesn't make it out of ST or he doesn't make it out of May. I don't see him lasting long on the 2015 roster.
  17. http://hollichristinemccormick.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/magic.gif
  18. True. I just believe Nunez is dead weight on the roster.
  19. Yeah, I get that, I just don't see the point in wasting a million bucks on that guy.
  20. But if Santana is truly moving back to short, there just isn't room on the roster for a middle infielder who can't field or hit. Nunez is a butcher in the field so he's not a late inning guy. He doesn't hit enough to play a corner spot. Escobar is a better player in every respect.
  21. I think Schafer, Plouffe, Milone, and Fien were easy decisions. I was iffy on Duensing. WTF Nunez.
  22. I don't know why that's even a question. Of course Beane is good for the game. He has crafted the modern game more than any other GM in baseball. With that said, this situation is a head-scratcher. I'll just sit back and watch it play out. One can never tell if Beane is two steps ahead of the the rest of the world or just completely insane. Either way, it's fun to watch.
  23. If the Twins had anything better than the worst rotation of the past three years, it'd be an interesting gamble... But right now, I think you have to hold on to Hughes because he's the only thing resembling a decent pitcher in the starting staff. Will Hughes regress in 2015? Almost certainly... But given the environment, I think he may actually be worth more after the 2015 season if he posts anything resembling a 110 ERA+ again, which I think he will. Front offices will respect the numbers a lot more if he posts two good consecutive seasons.
  24. Schilling's argument was anything but scientific.
  25. Not usually, I believe. All terms of the existing contract carry over to the new club. I'm pretty sure of that.
