  1. If Vargas was merely struggling, I'd let him work it out... But his OPS is around .460 and he's striking out nearly one out of three plate appearances. I don't know if I'd make the move today but it'd be on my radar and I'd strongly consider pulling the trigger if Vargas doesn't put it together in the Detroit series.
  2. Fangraphs has that hit listed as center.
  3. Thanks, Parker. So he has doubled his first pitch swing percentage over a two year period.
  4. The Twins have a young player up... His name is Kennys Vargas. If Pinto gets ABs in Minnesota, it's going to be (mostly) at the expense of Kenny Vargas. It's possible that Pinto will be the Twins starting catcher at some point in the season but I wouldn't hold my breath. Perkins had some blunt words about Pinto's defense last year and I doubt he's the only one who doesn't trust him behind the plate. If Pinto becomes the Twins starting catcher, it'll be a slow process as he proves he can catch at the major league level.
  5. With Vargas continuing to struggle badly, it's time to start considering a Pinto call-up. With the DH spot clear, it makes a lot more sense to call up Josmil if Molitor will start him behind the plate a couple of times a week.
  6. This team isn't as bad as they looked in the first week of the season and they're almost certainly not going to continue the recent "warm streak". This is probably a 75-ish win team, which is what I expected before the season. My opinion hasn't changed, which is a good thing because losing Santana hasn't hurt as much as I thought it would. The offense *should* rebound at some point. If the Twins manage to somehow improve the offense, the rotation holds together, and the inevitable call-ups improve the bullpen, then they might be able to sniff .500 but I think that's really unlikely. A lot has to go right for that to happen.
  7. I'm too lazy to look up his first pitch swing percentage but my eyes tell me he's swinging more often in first pitch situations, including a critical AB last night to drive home two runs in the eleventh. SSS obviously applies. 2014 AVG/SLG: Pull: .173/.235 Center: .364/.426 Opposite: .436/.638 2015 AVG/SLG: Pull: .409/.455 Center: .474/.579 Opposite: .133/.267 He has basically reversed his numbers from 2014.
  8. They need to fix the bullpen soon. As for your second point...
  9. Also a valid point.
  10. Signed Ricky Nolasco.
  11. Joe Mauer's brain is more important than winning baseball games. That is all that needs to be said in this conversation.
  12. No. He missed an entire year. I'd like to see him take a consistent approach for 3-4 weeks before making a move.
  13. Yep. Generally, I'm an advocate for staying the course in April. Give everyone a bit of time to settle in and then start thinking about roster moves.
  14. I put Ricky on a plane to Los Angeles and let him hang out on Sunset Blvd until someone flounders enough to deserve a demotion. Snark aside, I postpone the decision for as long as humanly possible by letting Nolasco rehab the max number of days.
  15. An OPS in AA that isn't below average would be a good start.
  16. People have a very skewed perception of when baseball players debut. Mike Trout and Miguel Cabrera are extreme outliers in today's game. Joe Mauer was as polished a baseball player as I've ever seen and he debuted at 20.352, or about one year younger than Buxton is now and Joe didn't lose a full year of baseball to injuries in the minors.
  17. This is a foolish article. Buxton doesn't "deserve" anything but more importantly, the Twins need to stop making decisions because their CF options are a mess. They need to do what's best for the individual players and that means Rosario, Hicks, and Buxton stay in the minors until they "deserve" a promotion.
  18. While I agree that it's probably for the best if he ends up there at some point in the season, the Twins would be foolish to move their best starter (stifling laughter) out of the rotation while he's on his game.
  19. Let Hicks build confidence in Rochester. We've been through this dog and pony show too many times to call him up after a handful of games.
  20. I always assumed it meant ten batters. At least one batter needs to hit twice.
  21. That's an excellent point. If Suzuki is dinged up, he should be out of the game and resting. If Herrmann is also injured to the point where you're reluctant to pull Suzuki from the game, then it's time to consider a call-up.
  22. Nope, it's real. I first learned about it while living in Utah as a kid. If you want to buy beer more potent than 3.2 in Utah, you need to do it in a state-owned liquor store.
  23. And that's fair. 1-2 starts was just an approximation. If Pinto was *guaranteed* two starts a week (plus 1-2 starts at DH), then it might make sense to call him up earlier... But in all likelihood, he'd probably get more around 1.5 starts a week and little/no starts at DH. And that's where my problem lies. Pinto needs to play as much as possible right now and he can't really do that in Minnesota. If he's raking in June and the Twins can't find room for him, then I'll start to get irritated about the situation but right now, I think there isn't a lot of upside in calling him up and there are certainly more pressing concerns on the roster.
  24. Nick Burdi's 2015: BB/9: 17.2 SO/9: 14.7 It's only 3.2 innings but those numbers are pretty humorous.
