  1. As someone who was pretty neutral on the contract, does a few million bucks really matter to the Twins at this point? The deal looks good now but I'm still not sure it matters that much. More than anything, I was happy for Brian and thought the deal sent a good message to the clubhouse: perform and you'll get paid.
  2. Once Martin fell in love with his own world, the writing started to suffer. I'm re-reading The Dark Tower series right now and the contrast between the two authors is jarring. King is basically writing an homage to himself, twisting and turning through his own works and imagination... But he never forgets that the story is about Roland and his quest for the Tower. He's world-building constantly and hitting just the right keys to amuse readers familiar with his work but he never loses sight of why he's writing the series.
  3. He didn't even introduce them in the first novel... He introduced them in the PROLOGUE of the first novel and then basically ignored it after that point.
  4. My initial reaction was "What!?!?! It's sunny outside" and then immediately derped myself.
  5. The show really stepped it up that episode. It started down the path of resolving two major plot lines we've waited WAY too long to see/read.
  6. I was expecting a lot worse in that article. Cameron tempered himself quite a bit and made some valid points, particularly about the deadline.
  7. I have to agree that Gordon has more value. Some scouts raved that his defense is so good that he'd be passable in MLB right out of the draft (obviously, not his bat though). Polanco still has questions around him and he's four years older.
  8. I can't see a scenario where Ryan is foolish enough to take on Howard with all the bats he has in the minors.
  9. The thing is that Rosario has never shown discipline. His MiLB isoD is lower than Arcia's. This isn't a new problem. Rosario might become the better overall player but I think Arcia will be a superior hitter.
  10. I went into detail on it awhile back but the short version is this: Rosario swings at way too many pitches, particularly pitches out of the strike zone (over 50% of them, actually). That is not a sustainable number in MLB. We often get down on Arcia for his free-swinging nature but he swings at less than 40% of pitches out of the zone. Rosario has a lot of learning to do. As long as he maintains a respectable OPS, I'm fine that he continue to do that learning in Minnesota but I won't be surprised if he can't maintain respectable numbers in a Twins uniform in the short term.
  11. It should also be noted that Colabello's BABIP currently sits at an absurd .477. The guy has "human lawn dart" written all over him.
  12. I'd be very wary of moving Rosario up the lineup. The guy is a ticking time bomb and should be protected as much as possible. In the past week he has cut down a bit on swinging at pitches outside the zone but his peripherals are still very much in "WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!" territory. He should be exposed as little as possible while he's learning the ropes at the highest level. Keep him in the back of the lineup. He's hitting well enough to stay in Minnesota - especially when you consider his defensive ability - but the Twins should treat him with kid gloves until his approach improves. What the Twins need is a legitimate DH. Whether that's Arcia or Vargas, I don't really care. I believe that if Pinto returns, it will be in place of Herrmann with spot starts at DH and lots of PH appearances.
  13. I'm still not overly concerned with Hicks' results. What I care about are these three things: 1. Good centerfield defense 2. Takes the bat off his shoulder every at-bat 3. Makes contact from both sides of the plate but especially against righties So far, so good. I don't care about his walk rate because Hicks is naturally a patient hitter. Right now, Aaron is working on making contact and taking good, aggressive at-bats. If he can figure out how to do that, he can always ease off and take a few more pitches. He hasn't forgotten how to take a walk, he's trying to improve as a hitter and it appears to be working.
  14. I'm not going to like seeing May get demoted, either... But as long as Pelfrey is sporting a top ten ERA, you have to put him on the mound every fifth day. This season - as surprising as this is to say - is turning into a time when the Twins have to think more about winning every game possible and less about prospect development (thankfully, those two things will overlap in many situations so it's not an issue most of the time).
  15. Nope. Nope. Nope. What makes you so bloody confident in Tommy Milone and his 86 mph fastball? Mike Pelfrey is helping the first place Minnesota Twins win baseball games. Full stop. This isn't a video game. These are real, live human beings and you ride the hot hand while it's working.
  16. Yeah, same here.
  17. Molitor made a pointed statement about Vargas' approach when he was sent down. The demotion made a bit more sense at that point. Molitor said something along the lines of "he was somewhat lost; too aggressive one at-bat, too passive the next". I don't know if I agree with that take but I can't really disagree with it, either. At least it wasn't a demotion made for completely nonsensical reasons, I suppose.
  18. With all the foot-dragging going on with Vargas and Pinto, it makes me wonder if this all about Arcia moving to the DH role so Molitor can keep Rosario in left. If that's the case, I'm pretty okay with it, provided Oswaldo returns to Minnesota relatively soon.
  19. Trading the second best starter when the team has the best record in the American League would be incredibly foolish. Mike Pelfrey is helping win baseball games. That is literally the *only* thing that matters right now when it comes to the subject of Mike Pelfrey. I agree the bullpen needs an overhaul but the rotation should only be changed if it is a clear and obvious upgrade. Milone might not be better than Nolasco, much less Pelfrey.
  20. Cubs get out of a jam in the top of the 11th.
  21. The Twins can't recall Tonkin for a week.
  22. God, I love seeing Hunter, Hicks, and Rosario do the leaping back bump thing.
  23. This team is silly. I just can't even.
  24. Suzuki's release time was about a minute and a half there but crikey, he rifled that ball.
