  1. I think you can expect #1 to happen soon, #3-5 to happen relatively soon (mid to late June is my guess), and keep hoping on #6. As for #2, I'd love to see Milone but who do you kick out of the rotation to do it? Trevor May? No thanks. And putting Milone in a long relief role in Minnesota seems like a giant waste to me. I'm hoping that in June or July, Ryan is able to move Milone in trade for a piece that will help the Twins in 2015, provided everybody is still healthy and the Twins are contending.
  2. While I agree that it's too early to draw rash conclusions, this type of performance isn't new to Joe Mauer, it's merely exaggerated this season. For his career, Joe has a +.122 OPS with RISP versus bases empty. He has a +.088 OPS with Men On versus bases empty. That's absurd. He has routinely defied conventional SABR wisdom throughout his career, this year he's simply defying it with a little more panache. What does that mean? I have no idea.
  3. Tim Stauffer has been back with the team for a week and hasn't been used in a game yet. I think that says a lot about his future with the Twins. Also, let's give Paul Molitor three cheers! It appears he has put someone in the doghouse and that player entirely deserves to be there.
  4. Heh. While kinda funny, that's not really fair to say about Berrios. The Twins have been quite aggressive in promoting him, so much that they even gave him a Rochester start last season as a 20 year old. It's obvious that the organization is a big fan of the kid. I'm sure the Twins are planning to promote him as soon as they begin their mid-season wave of promotions.
  5. As a backup that would help in 2015 and beyond, Susac is an interesting trade target. Suzuki will almost surely wear down at he approaches the 120 game mark and Susac is a competent bat with some upside. Giving him 30-40% of the starts behind the dish in 2015 and moving that number toward 50% in 2016 sounds like smart roster management to me. Naturally, it all depends on what it will take to get him. Given the struggles of Hicks, I'm a little wary of giving up Rosario right now and I don't think Kepler or someone of his ilk is nearly enough to sway the Giants.
  6. It's becoming quite apparent that Berrios has little left to learn in Chattanooga. The Twins need to consider a promotion and consider it soon.
  7. I agree that Arcia has been frustrating but if you send him to AAA, he's going to do exactly what he always does to AAA pitching: absolutely destroy it. If he's going to correct his problems, he's going to need to do it in Minnesota under Bruno's tutelage. It's not as if he's posting an 80 OPS+. In 65 PAs this season, he has a 99 OPS+. Yeah, you want more than that out of a DH but it's just 65 PAs from a guy who has destroyed MiLB pitching multiple times. Let him work out his issues - which are minor - at the major league level.
  8. Polanco's bat looks ready but as recently as the end of last season, some scouts still referred to his defense as a work in progress. He's a guy whose promotion and readiness level needs to be evaluated beyond the box score. I think it's likely he spends some time in Rochester before coming to Minnesota unless the Twins are sold on his defensive abilities. Why are people so down on Arcia? The guy is 24 years old and has a career OPS+ of 103 in over a season's worth of PAs. Given how the Twins are trucking right now and how Rosario is starting to look relatively competent, I'd strongly consider bringing Oswaldo back to Minnesota and putting him at DH every day. The Twins are trying to win ballgames in 2015 and Oswaldo at DH gives them a better chance of doing that every night.
  9. KLaw is kinda a jerk. I think he's a relatively smart jerk but he's still a jerk. He takes completely unnecessary shots at players, fans, and random standers-by for no real reason. And God help you if you disagree with his points. In short, he seems a completely unlikable fellow, even when he's right about something... Or especially when he's right about something, actually.
  10. The Twins can recoup value from Pelfrey by letting him help them win ball games in 2015.
  11. Not me. I'm a firm believer in one punishment term. You slap the guy with whatever punishment fits the "crime", let him do his time, and then he is treated just like anyone else in the game. Otherwise you get absurdity like the Peterson situation, where the penalty term is undisclosed and everyone wanders around confused for close to a year. It's a bad solution. Set the punishment length however long you like but once a guy is done with his punishment, he's done with his punishment. Santana already lost a pile of cash during the regular season punishment term. Making him lose a few playoff bonuses are nothing in comparison to half a season's pay.
  12. If the team is contending and the trade helps them improve in 2015, that's a different story. Pelfrey leaving after the season is over should be irrelevant to a winning ballclub, though. Improving the on-field squad is one thing. Worrying about November when you're in the middle of a playoff run is something else entirely.
  13. This is the most obvious solution. Make the player meet the standard deadline for postseason play, just like everybody else.
  14. Then make the suspension one year long and disqualify the player from playing baseball the entire season. I don't really care about the suspension length, what I care about is the inconsistency of the rule. Either a player is cleared to play baseball or he isn't. None of this "you can play baseball on X day but not Y day" garbage.
  15. It's a terrible rule. If a guy is cleared to play and served his time, let him play.
  16. I think Stauffer is a placeholder for Fien.
  17. If the team is contending and a player is helping it stay relevant, letting a guy walk away after the season is complete is a perfectly acceptable thing to do. That's one of my biggest pet peeves with trade talk. Not every player needs to be sold high or traded at the perfect time. If the player is helping the team in the here and now, there doesn't need to be a plan to get even more value out of him before he leaves. Sometimes it makes sense to move a player, get value in return, and replace the guy with someone else... But if Pelfrey is pitching to a 130 ERA+ in July and the Twins are in the WC hunt, you keep that guy every time because 1)Ervin Santana cannot pitch playoff innings in 2015 and 2)Pelfrey's replacement will not throw 130 ERA+ innings in August and September, never mind the playoffs. Sometimes, you have to think about the here and now, not what happens in November. Will Pelfrey and/or the Twins be this good in July? I'm extremely skeptical of that happening but I'm not ruling it out, either.
  18. Bonds had a WAR of 162. I just can't even.
  19. Perkins is a gimme choice. I'd also probably nominate Dozier because he's been good for quite some time and deserves his first nod. Plouffe would make it many years but this year, it seems like a crowded field at third (something not often said in the history of baseball).
  20. I don't get Nick Burdi. He has to be a disappointment to the organization thus far. I expected the guy to fly through the system but he has really struggled in Chattanooga.
  21. Yeah, I don't understand their recent strategy. One of those guys - probably Pinto or Vargas - should be getting DH reps. I still don't understand the Vargas demotion, hopefully it's a temporary move and he'll be back up soon.
  22. Vlad Guerrero in his prime. Dude was a cartoon character with that swing.
  23. http://cdn1.sbnation.com/imported_assets/983249/405694_178315385608995_100002916031264_290280_582254303_n.jpg
  24. Yeah, the higher minors have good fields by and large. I went hyperbole and a half with that post. But errors are still mostly useless stats even in MLB, much less MiLB.
