  1. You can't say a guy is or is not ready based on 50 plate appearances. We really don't know that. He's absolutely a top ten prospect. He's a top five prospect.
  2. And that's possible. If the Twins are basing this on "Torii needs playing time", that's absurd. If they're being cautious with Buxton and his wrist, that's understandable.
  3. And I'll be right next to you, pitchfork in hand, if that happens. But I'll wait until that actually happens before I get mad about it.
  4. Uh, apples and oranges. Aaron Hicks was promoted to AA as a 22 year old. Byron Buxton doesn't turn 22 until December.
  5. You've seen how guys often play after a wrist injury, right? It's ugly. Their timing is screwed up, they don't have full strength in their wrist, and they're just a mess at the plate. I want to see Buxton in Minnesota as much as anyone but giving him two weeks in the minors to get back up to speed isn't going to further sink this already-sunk season, nor is calling him up today going to restore the season. With that said, if Byron isn't in Minnesota and playing every day in September, I'm going to be pissed.
  6. Given how long Buxton was out and how much he struggled with MLB pitching, this is the right move. I don't like it, but it's the right move. Wrist injuries are a bitch and he's going to need several games to get his timing back at the plate.
  7. But as John said, they went into the break on a high note. From June 1 to July 12, they essentially played .500 ball. That's six weeks of .500 baseball after their ridiculous month of May. They fell to pieces after the break and lost their entire +10 record in that three week span.
  8. Yes, this. It's not like a team gets five first round picks when they're bad. It takes years to build a farm system and not all players arrive at the same time or age. With that said, it sure wouldn't hurt to make this roster younger right now. Call up Arcia and Berrios and see what happens, though Jose may be approaching his innings limit for the season.
  9. Colabello's BABIP is actually up to .395 now. The guy continues to lead a charmed life. I've been following this all season and every time it dips, he goes on a tear and the number climbs again. It's kind of ridiculous.
  10. I don't understand why Aaron is hammering away at the "worst AL team in the past 2 1/2 months" point when their -10 record came almost entirely in the past two weeks. It's a bad argument that intentionally obscures what has happened to this team since the All-Star Break. On June 1st, they were 30-19. On July 17th (ASB), they were 50-40. Today, they are 55-56. It's not hard to see where everything went to pieces and it wasn't June 1st.
  11. Hicks' OPS vs RHP now up to .626. When a guy is making huge improvements as Hicks has in the past month, you do not platoon him.
  12. That's a really easy statement to make in 2015. Try making it in 2010 with a competitive team and a brand new taxpayer funded ballpark. And you think Mauer was a risky contract but think an elite pitcher was a better idea? Hard you seen what happens during the backend of a typical longterm deal to elite pitchers? CC Sabathia and Johan Santana would like to have a word with you about that. There's waaaaaaaayyyyy too much hindsight thinking in this thread.
  13. No to Shields but I'd give up quite a bit for either Hedges or Norris.
  14. Ah, okay. I missed Texas passing the Twins. I know they were tied for a day, didn't realize the Rangers had a brief lead.
  15. My opinion was to let Pelfrey ride the luck train as long as he was able to do it. The luck train ran over Mike Pelfrey quite some time ago.
  16. Went to last night's game and saw CHS for the first time. Lovely field, very good Saints team, ugly uniforms. Really, they're bad. What a great place to watch a ballgame, though!
  17. 2011 was not a rebuilding year. It was a disaster year that forced a rebuild. Going into the 2011 season, the Twins were expected to contend.
  18. Two, actually. Baltimore and Toronto.
  19. Yep. If Mauer hits FA in 2010, Epstein doesn't blink twice before tossing down an 8 year, $200m offer. Not even a moment's hesitation. And Cashman gave Ellsbury $155-freakin-million. Jacoby Ellsbury. I mean, come on.
  20. It's not famous last words, it's common sense and watching a ton of baseball over the years. Just as it's *really hard* to pass three teams and pick up a Wild Card spot in less than two months, it's *really hard* to lose the same amount of ground in two months. The Twins just spent two weeks in a tailspin and stand 5.5 games above the last place team in the ALC.
  21. Uh, no. It's REALLY HARD to be so incompetent that you fall behind three teams in less than two months.
  22. That's not Tapia's floor. His floor is "never reaching the majors". While I don't disagree with the sentiment the Rays won the deal, that's a pretty ridiculous statement that'd I'd expect from a message board, not a BA analyst.
  23. Eh, FIP is kinda crap for groundball pitchers, as it doesn't factor in type of contact at all. Also, you need to stop putting words in mouth. I said "fringy #2, decent #3" and said nothing about where I placed Gibson on that scale.
  24. You'll get no arguments from me that the front office let down the team in July and they have to step it up this offseason to improve the team. As I've said before, I'll be very disappointed if we don't see at least one move that significantly improves this team for 2016.
  25. Yeah, he's a bad defender. So is Torii Hunter. But only one of them can hit RHP at an above average clip. note: RHP constitutes roughly 70% of all MLB pitching
