    The groin injury is certainly true and hurt him during the middle of the season but after he came back, he pitched to a 4.79 ERA in 35.2 innings. His FIP was over 4.10 as well.

    Joe Ryan has a career 102 ERA+ with a 95 ERA+ in 2023. He's 27 years old. He's a #4 starter on a good team until he puts it together for more than a couple of months. Bailey Ober is even older at 28. He's older than Pablo Lopez. Yes, his ERA+ is markedly above average but he's also pitched fewer than 300 innings in his career over three seasons. Availability is a skill and while I think he's maybe a decent #3 if you squint a little, he won't cement himself as an above-average pitcher until he pitches 150 innings in a season or even multiple 100+ inning seasons in a row.

    I run sites for three different teams. Watching the Twins isn't even close to the majority of baseball games I watch anymore. Last year I watched more Brewers games than Twins games.

    I think they're appropriately rated. They're two pitchers with upside and question marks. With Ryan, he needs to show that his pitch mix and stuff plays for an entire season. With Ober, he needs to show he can stay on the mound. I think I have slightly more confidence in Ober at this point but it's close. Also, no way in hell do I put them 30/31 if evaluating them in the actual baseball sense and not fantasy. I've have to spend the time to really break down the list but I'd be a little surprised if either of them were in the top 60 or so.

    So it turns out that our master server is getting hammered by bots. If you're unfortunate enough to be allocated to that server, that's why you're seeing site slowness. We're working on it and hope to have it resolved by tomorrow.

    I'm getting reports on this on all three sites. I think one of our server instances is struggling, which explains why it's normal for most and dreadfully slow for others. We're looking into it.

After a quiet start to the offseason, notorious wheeler and dealer Jerry Dipoto has been active in the past week, making notable trades with both the Giants and Rays. Like the Twins, the Mariners are facing television uncertainty, recently taking control of their regional sports network, Root Sports. Jorge Polanco and his short-term, cost-controlled contract status should be appealing to Seattle.     Ken Rosenthal reported today that the Seattle Mariners are still looking for an infielder to bolster their offense in 2024. After a quiet start to the offseason, notorious wheeler and dealer Jerry Dipoto has been active in the past week, making notable trades with both the Giants and Rays. Like the Twins, the Mariners are facing television uncertainty, recently taking control of their regional sports network, Root Sports. Jorge Polanco and his short-term, cost-controlled contract status should be appealing to Seattle. The 30-year-old Polanco is under contract for $10.5 million in 2024 and has a $12 million team option for 2025.

Max Kepler hasn't played center field in a few years - and reportedly doesn't like playing the position - but is widely considered capable of being a spot starter up the middle. With only one year remaining on his contract, he's a relatively low-cost addition that could shore up the Rockies' lineup while also covering enormous ground in the spacious Coors Field grass. Additionally, the Twins also have Trevor Larnach waiting in the wings and now at 26 years old, he needs a chance to play on a consistent basis. Should the Rockies balk at Kepler's salary or prospect cost, the Twins could consider moving Larnach in his place. View full rumor

    I don't know if Larnach has much value at this point and Miranda has certainly cratered, at least temporarily. Personally, I'd keep both and trade both Kepler and Polanco. Maybe Larnach is never good again but it's something I'd like to find out before trading him for little to nothing. And I think Miranda is going to bounce back nicely with the bat, though he's still a defensive albatross.

The piece highlights the Blue Jays, Cubs, and Mariners as the best fit, as they're including Polanco as a potential third baseman in their evaluation. For example, the Cubs already have a dynamic duo up the middle in Nico Hoerner and Dansby Swanson but also have a gaping hole at third base. In the following tier - we'll call it "good fit" - the piece talks about the Brewers, Giants, and Marlins.     We happened to have a brief discussion about this and while there's a lot more to talk about, small changes will be coming to how we manage caretaker content. Don't know when it will happen, though. This time of year has many of us pointed in different directions as we prepare for the Winter Meltdown, plan Spring Training, launch new features, etc.
