  1. Sure, Buxton, Park, and Sano flailing away at pitches is going to hurt the team... But what is frustrating me the most is their ability to get on base when it "doesn't count" and their complete incompetence when it "does count". And while I'm also pissed at Molitor for being embarrassingly out-coached (that Rosario sac last night was Little League ****), most of my anger is directed at the players because they're the ones failing to execute time. and time. and time again when it matters most. If those players were also failing at the same rate with the bases empty, then it's more of a clear indication the front office screwed up and picked the wrong players. But they're not failing with the bases empty.
  2. It still doesn't explain how a handful of perfectly capable hitters suddenly turn into Sal Butera - not Drew, but his 60 year old dad - with the bat the moment a runner gets on base. This team is one of the better-hitting teams with the bases empty. They're 60% of the next worse team with runners on base. There's no excuse for this offense to be performing at this level because they're just fine with the bases empty. Normalize this offense with RISP and the Twins are 3-5 at worst. And the guys holding the bats get the blame for their failure to execute on the field. Sure, I'm pissed about the bullpen, just like everybody else. I'm irritated that the rotation has too many vets and too few youngsters (though it's hard to argue the results thus far), but if this offense simply does their job - the job they're doing with the bases empty - the Twins are not winless. Not even close to it. Eight games and this team has scored three runs twice. That's their high water mark.
  3. I think I made it pretty clear that Ryan deserves blame for many things... But situational hitting with RISP - when the team is actually one of the better-hitting teams with the bases empty - is misdirected anger. Blame Ryan for the bullpen. Blame him for picking up Park when he wasn't necessary. Blame him for the rotation situation. Yeah, those are all legitimate front office complaints. But situational hitting? No, not so much. The guys on the field get the blame for their incompetence in that regard. Not the coach, not the manager, not the front office. The guys on the field.
  4. Becoming cliche? They were cliche a week ago. Now they're just aggravating. Terry Ryan has made plenty of mistakes but he's not the one out there getting on base 34% of the time with the bases empty and getting on base less than 16% of the time with runners in scoring position (and a large percentage of that pathetic 16% is from IBB so in reality it's even worse than it looks, if that's even possible). The entire lineup is failing to execute in key situations but seem to have little/no difficulty executing with no one on base. It's fair to blame Terry Ryan for lots of things... But it's hard to pin that one on him.
  5. I continue to watch this season unfold in disbelief. Twins OBP with the bases empty: .343... 7th best in all of baseball. Twins BA with RISP: .082... 30th in all of baseball because how can a team even do that over eight games? (the next lowest is KC at .150, close to double the Twins)
  6. Okay, Molitor. How the &@$% did you not see it playing out that way before the sac bunt? My faith in his ability to manage is quickly evaporating.
  7. Sac bunts followed by intentional walks are possibly my favorite thing in baseball.
  8. ONE CANNOT TRIFLE WITH FACTS GOOD DAY SIR
  9. That's what I'm hoping will happen. It makes sense to me.
  10. I meant a bench day, you pedantic something-or-other.
  11. Tonkin probably slides into Pressly's role. It makes sense for a few reasons: - Rogers is used to longer outings and is stretched out - This gets Tonkin into more games in his traditional one inning role, making it easier for the Twins to gauge his performance or lack thereof - The second point makes it easier to either trust or waive Tonkin, making room for another young guy
  12. Park getting the day off. Exactly what I would have done. It's too early to demote but a day off sure can't hurt.
  13. Oh, not arguing whether it makes sense, only stating that it likely doesn't matter.
  14. Well, they had a day off so it shouldn't matter. Everyone should be ready to go. But yeah, why this morning?
  15. It's weird for an entire bullpen and lineup to struggle at the exact same time no matter the age. I don't think anyone is getting a pass, this entire situation is just bizarre.
  16. They're a pretty young team. Average age is 28.0 years old, 7th youngest in baseball. Oldest player is 33 years old, 2nd youngest in baseball. The three teams directly in front of the Twins in average age are in full-blown rebuild mode (or at least should be): Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Cincinnati. They're a young team.
  17. Yeah, that was pretty much my point. I didn't use leverage situations because May spent so many innings as a starter but in case people are interested... High leverage: .713 Med leverage: .761 Low leverage: .763 It seems to me May has done just fine with the game on the line.
  18. Yeah, this. A seven game losing streak is always a bad sign but people are making a *much* bigger deal out of it because it's the first seven games. And that's understandable, to a point... But too many are declaring it the end of the season, or something close to it. The Twins face the Angels and Brewers next. If they do their jobs, a lot of ground can be covered in those 6-7 games.
  19. As evidenced by May holding opponents to a .581 OPS in close and late situations last season?
  20. I also have some great ideas for Rusty Kuntz Day.
  21. I'd love to revive my petition for Bremer-shaped Popsicles called "Dick on a Stick". You know, for kids.
  22. I agree with much of the lineup you've posted but what is the benefit of swapping Nunez for Polanco? So the guy gets to rot on the bench instead of getting regular PAs in Rochester? That seems like a foolish way to handle a prospect with upside. Polanco has less than 100 PAs in AAA. Putting him in a bench role seems pretty short-sighted. The guy can use more seasoning.
  23. I'd get rid of Fien. Call up... Hell, I don't care. Someone. I'd bench, not demote, Park... At least for awhile. I'd play Kepler. Sano back to DH. Maybe May to closer. Not sure on that one. Perkins deserves one more game, hopefully with warmer weather. Oh, and Escobar to the two slot. Mauer in the three.
  24. If I continue watching this game, my television is not long for the earth.
