  1. Is that including home runs? Because Dozier was pretty good at scoring himself last season.
  2. True, but it's more of a sure thing. In the draft, you're getting a player you're more confident will succeed in the long run and in the trade/acquisition, you're getting a player further along in his development. The Twins drafted for need when they selected Levi Michael. We all know how that turned out for the organization. They may as well have given that pick to another team or simply abstained from picking at all.
  3. Sure, but Posey was a top five draft pick. The Twins pick in the middle of the draft this season. Pick the best guy on the board and if that's a catcher, great. If it's not, evaluate the system and make the appropriate moves to acquire a catcher.
  4. This isn't a bad idea but it's hard not to get the feeling this organization is playing darts blindfolded right now.
  5. Never, ever draft for need. Especially a catcher. It's rare for a catcher to spend fewer than two years in the minors, even collegiate athletes. In two years, the situation could be drastically different and you overdrafted to get a guy based on nebulous future need. Draft the BPA, especially in the first three rounds. Once you get past the third round, reaching a bit on an upside player is fine but not early. Never early.
  6. Yeah, it's impossible for them to live up to the hype of Infinity War after this movie. I just don't know how they'll do it. Winter Soldier may be a better film than Civil War but it wasn't half as much fun. Which is okay, because they almost feel like separate franchises they're so different from one another.
  7. It is. There are plot holes in the movie - hard not to find inconsistencies in an action movie with a scope and cast of this size - but unlike other films in recent memory, what is happening on-screen is just so damned intense/fun/emotional that you don't give a damn about the plot holes. This movie a little bit of everything: it has the intensity Batman v Superman tried so hard to convey (but this film pulls it off), it has the fun and charm of the best Marvel movies to date (Guardians, Avengers), and it introduces two major new characters while delivering on promises made with old characters in previous films. It's really a marvel (no pun intended) of film making. I walked out of the theatre scratching my head, unsure how the Russo brothers pulled off the ~150 minutes of film I had just experienced.
  8. Maybe the best Marvel movie yet. Spidey, Ant-Man, and Black Panther stole the show... Which is quite a feat given the rest of the cast. Everybody had their moment and no character was left behind.
  9. Given their average lineup age, "yes".
  10. It has worked out equally as well for the Yankees.
  11. Are you suggesting Neil Allen is a bad coach? Because... No, I can't agree with that even a little bit. What Meyer needed was confidence and support. He didn't get that from Molitor with the quick hook in a game where he was struggling but not terrible.
  12. No, it wouldn't have mattered much but the Twins could have walked away with a prospect and freed up money to buy a better reliever (not that they should be up against their payroll ceiling anyway but that's another argument). I *love* pitcher redundancy... But the Twins had so much more than redundancy. They literally had *eight* guys they could have used in the rotation on Opening Day and that's not including Alex Meyer. Redundancy is 6-7 guys... Eight guys is overkill and one of them could have been moved. Hughes was coming off a down year. Gibson was critical to the team. Nolasco had no value. Santana shouldn't be traded. That leaves Milone.
  13. Obviously, there isn't a several thousand word breakdown of Jenkins' career but his clutch and leverage stats don't indicate he was significantly better in those situations than in blowout situations. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=jenkife01&year=Career&t=p#clutc
  14. It's probably the right move but it would have been nice to flip Milone for a C level prospect last winter instead of paying him money to pitch 4-5 times.
  15. Which means he's no longer starting material.* *assuming his velocity is gone for good
  16. I don't really blame the Twins for the situation that led to Meyer's promotion - they were in a bad spot - but I do blame them for sitting him for over a week, then yanking him out of the game after 2.2 innings and demoting him back to Rochester. If you're going to give the guy an opportunity, give him a real opportunity. If you're not going to give him a real opportunity, call up Pat Dean or someone else whose development doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
  17. Against RHP, Joe Mauer has 21 BB in 99 PA. That's a .146 isoD.
  18. Yeah, this. Either keep him in AAA and on a regular schedule or just toss him into the MLB rotation, give him no fewer than five starts, and see what happens.
  19. Did he, though? I'm sure Ryan wasn't firmly against Molitor but if I recall correctly, the Pohlads had direct involvement in his hiring. But this is based off hazy recollection. I could be wrong.
  20. I've stopped even trying to understand what the hell is going on in this organization right now.
  21. The most ridiculous name pairing ever typed by a human being.
  22. That theory was annihilated several years ago by an in-depth article. The piece put that concept to bed forever, at least in the case of Jack Morris (the poster boy for those who advocate this flawed idea). http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=1815
  23. This is amazing. 24 home runs, 21 bases empty home runs. Meanwhile, the Twins are still eighth in the AL with a .311 OBP.
  24. If you think DickBert are bottom five, I question how many broadcast teams you've really listened to consistently. There are some truly awful groups out there: White Sox, Nats, Cards (oy, McCarver), Royals (Hudler destroys any good that might come from Physioc). And this ranking from 2014 kinda cements that feeling. They have the Twins listed seventh (mainly on the strength of Kelly/Morris), which is too high in my opinion but the fact is that most broadcast teams are a mix of mediocre and terrible, just like DickBert. This is a pretty amusing read, really. http://awfulannouncing.com/2014/your-mlb-local-tv-announcer-rankings.html
  25. You got off lucky. I spent a decade listening to that clown broadcast Angels games.
