  1. Yeah. I thought he blundered the Clinton thing 10 days before the election but I never thought he was crooked. From everything I've read about the guy, he's a principled man. That doesn't mean he's above making a mistake but I don't think he did it out of partisan malice.
  2. Hitters who can't field no longer bring much in either trade or the free agent market. Look at what Encarnacion signed for last winter. Over the past five seasons, he has posted a 146 OPS+ and he could barely get $60m guaranteed.
  3. Byron Buxton's average exit velocity (87.69 mph) is now nearly identical to the MLB average (87.76 mph). It has climbed ~1.5 mph over the past 2-3 weeks.
  4. Yeah, Mauer's contract shouldn't make them gun shy with Sano. They're very different players. Mauer's bat played well at any position but not at the level we expect from Sano. A large portion of Joe's value came from the fact that .300 average, .400 OBP, .850 OPS catchers are unicorns.
  5. I think it's the player but now that you ask the question, I'm not sure.
  6. I forgot Jay hasn't pitched yet. Didn't consider Burdi because he's a RHP.
  7. Maybe. Probably. But I believe Chapman was moved off the 40-man during the time when it's least likely a player will be claimed (March-April). Once the season gets rolling and injuries happen, it's harder to get a guy through waivers.
  8. That's probably an offseason deal. But waiting until the offseason is always a risk. You never know when some team will overbid for pitching and offer Santiago something along the lines of 3/30 or 2/24. That begins to step outside what I'd be willing to pay for the guy.
  9. Yeah, it's a bit of a concern but with Melotakis holding his own in Chattanooga and Jay doing well in Ft Myers, I can't see why the front office would be in any kind of rush to get Chapman on the 40-man. If he was a righty, I'd be a bit more wary but the Twins haven't lacked in LHP options out of the pen.
  10. Sure. I was speaking of only 2017. But the fact he has rebounded so quickly and well over the past 11 games is promising. I was hoping for mediocrity, not way above average hitting.
  11. Yeah, that'd be roughly the going price for a guy like Santiago.
  12. Yes. He's likely a 5, maybe a 4, on a decent team. Which is fine. All teams need those guys, especially the Twins. But we shouldn't go in expecting him to be a solid 3 or better going forward. His track record doesn't support paying him that kind of money. And even if Santiago is good this season, I'd hesitate to pay him for his 2017 performance, as he'd be likely to regress.
  13. To put it a different way, Byron Buxton has now been good almost as long as he was bad. First 15 games: .082 / .135 / .122 / .257 52 PAs 24 SO Last 11 games: .281 / .410 / .438 / .848 39 PAs 9 SO
  14. True, but in reality Chapman's value rises a bit if he's off the 40 man. He's the kind of guy who you don't mind having in the org should he figure it out or the bullpen collapse but you don't want him clogging up your 40-man.
  15. Nice move. I didn't expect the Twins to get anything for Santana and a questionable lefty bullpen arm seems like a fair deal.
  16. Please continue conversation here: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/25845-article-twins-acquire-lhp-kevin-chapman-for-danny-santana/
  17. What browser in Mac OS?
  18. And going forward, I don't want to see this strategy employed... but they're taking over a bad team that they didn't build. I don't fault them for taking some time to get to know some of the players more thoroughly and get a better idea of what the team will look like going forward. If they do the same thing next offseason, groan. I can't and won't support that idea.
  19. I agree that more/better bullpen pieces would have been preferable. I was speaking more of their in-season moves. See what you have and throw away what doesn't work in a prompt fashion.
  20. I sure wouldn't. The core of this team is going nowhere for the next two seasons. If they don't improve, the team doesn't win. Pull the trigger when this team looks on the cusp of being a contender, not on the cusp of being acceptably mediocre.
  21. And that's kinda what I wanted them to do. Give the guys on the fringe a shot and move on if it doesn't work. It appears that is happening. I still think the bullpen should have been addressed in a more meaningful fashion but the guys they picked up haven't exactly killed the team. Mostly what I wanted was to see them sort through the chaff of Santana, Tonkin, Pressly, et al and decide what needed to be discarded.
  22. This is all I asked from the new front office to open the season. Give the roster a chance and then cut fast and furious as you see a lack of results.
  23. Except Juan Castro.
  24. I don't mean the FO was/is in love with Adrianza, only that they liked him more than Santana.
