  1. While that'd be great, it's an unreasonable expectation from any draft pick, particularly one in a draft where no clear 1-1 pick was available. If you can get an above average MLB starter from any pick, you did okay for yourself.
  2. He has a point, though. Burdi was a poster child for "quick to MLB" and... well, you know how that worked out. Never draft for need. Draft the BPA. Every time (caveats for draft tomfoolery where drafting your second BPA allows you to draft a higher BPA later).
  3. I hated when the Twins did it to Polanco so I'm not going to advocate they do it to Romero. Call the guy when he's ready, don't disrupt his development for a game or two of play.
  4. That's fair but it's also a long season. Skipping a spot with a fresh arm is a pretty easy decision. Skipping a spot with an arm that's one of the leading IP in baseball after 2.5 months changes the situation a bit.
  5. Yeah, but he's entirely disposable. Gonsalves is not. If Gonsalves was ready, I don't think we'd be seeing Wilk right now.
  6. Unfortunately, there aren't any young starters. Gonsalves is probably next in line but he hasn't been going deep into games and he's not on the 40 man.
  7. I think he has a feel for it, he simply doesn't care. I hate to see him do it but damn, it's fun to watch a fearless defender.
  8. Yeah, it's one of the reasons I'm hoping the Twins found some magic in Turley. Lots of bad pitchers out there, lots of teams that will be overpaying for pitching rentals.
  9. Agreed. Rotation juggling is something you do in September, not June.
  10. We'd be disappointed if he played like 2016 Gordon, sure. 2017 Gordon? I'd be thrilled with that. Nick's OPS is over .850 as a 21 year old in AA. What more can you expect than that? If Gordon continues rolling all season, he'll be a top 30 prospect in baseball.
  11. Santana all the way. While Berrios has been lock-step with Ervin in performance, he doesn't have much of a track record of consistency. I'll need to see a lot more of Jose before he supplants Santana at the top of the rotation.
  12. I wasn't pointing the finger any anyone specifically, just chuckling at the huge swing in opinions after Eduardo went on a tear. I've always liked Escobar and thought he received something of a bad shake from Twins fans. I think he's a pretty good player but he hasn't put it together for an entire season yet... in his defense, he hasn't received a legit shot at an entire season, either. But he's kinda getting up there in age for a guy who hasn't put together more than ~450 plate appearances in a season. I just don't see anyone giving up much for him, though getting another Mejia is a possibility if the Twins decide to trade him (which seems like a pretty bad idea today, as Polanco is scuffling and the Twins can really use the insurance Escobar provides the infield).
  13. So now we've gone from advocating the immediate release of Escobar to trading him for a starting pitcher. Reality lays somewhere between those two opinions. Escobar is a nice bench guy with a decent bat. A fringe starter if you're in a pickle. His value isn't very high in trade unless the Twins find someone at the deadline with a weak spot in their lineup, much like Nunez last year with the Giants.
  14. Overall for the season? Maybe not. But since his disastrous start (52 PAs, .257 OPS), he has improved considerably (149 PAs, .743 OPS).
  15. That's the plan.
  16. Definitely not making excuses for that strategy. I was speaking more about the plethora of TJ surgeries, the overall injuries, and just weird crap like Stewart not being able to miss a bat despite throwing 94mph. A fair amount of that is likely a development problem, though.
  17. I'm about 90% sure I'm going to clear my stocks and pay off my mortgage. I'm tech-heavy, as most of you know. The market just took a big dip last week. Earnings season is a little over a month away. If you were in my place, what's your exit strategy?
  18. That's because the Twins don't have very good pitchers. They drafted Stewart and Jay and acquired guys like Thorpe, Meyer, and Romero. Those are power pitchers who (should) miss bats. Unfortunately, Stewart continues to falter and Jay is back in the bullpen. Meyer is out of the organization entirely. The Twins have been drafting and signing power arms for quite some time, they've just done a very bad job of it (and also ran into what is likely more than their fair share of bad luck along the way).
  19. Zero, if they believed they had to pass up a 4 WAR shortstop to sign him. I can understand being disappointed about Greene - that's who I wanted to see the Twins draft - but given how the rest of their draft went, it's pretty hard to complain, in my opinion. It appears they got what they believe to be four top 80 or so guys, two of them top 30 guys. That's a good draft. Now only time will tell if they're right.
  20. Yeah, Carlson was just a placeholder for "Player X, probably Pitcher X". I used him specifically because so many here wanted to see him drafted. And good point about mechanics. It shouldn't be ignored that Enlow also has a curve with a good spin rate. I suspect that was a big part of the decision. You can teach a slider or change but from what I've read, teaching a curve with good spin is a feel pitch. A guy either has it or he doesn't.
  21. Marriage is hard. Communicate, communicate some more, and then communicate even more. Discuss everything. If there's still conflict, don't shy away from therapy. It's a slow, grinding process but if you both put in the effort, it will likely work. And, like pseudo said, your happiness matters, too. Acquiescing to your partner is often the easiest route to take but in the long run, it's a losing strategy. And remember the same about her if you see she's acquiescing to your wants/needs too often. So, basically, be attentive and communicate.
  22. The second day of the draft impressed the hell out of me. It was the first time I've seen this front office plan and execute a strategy we're not used to seeing from a Twins front office. Sure, the Castro signing was good and smart but it was one signing. Inversely, they let me down with their bullpen strategy. So far this season, they've made a few decent moves but have been handcuffed by injuries so there's not a lot good to report on that front. But the draft looked like it was meticulously planned and executed. Sure, maybe they missed on Carlson but everybody misses at least once every draft. They recovered, stuck to a strategy, and executed well in the eyes of most analysts. That's all I can ask for at this point because only time will tell if they picked the right guys. Right now, all we can judge is the process and the process looks pretty good.
  23. If the Twins acquired roughly 11 more pitchers who can miss bats, maybe. As it stands now, no way.
  24. Nope. Enlow is the best pitcher acquired on day two. He was #14 overall on Keith Law's board, I believe. He was #29 on MLB's board. In other words, first round talent. The Twins haven't pursued "pitch to contact" guys in years. That myth needs to die. The Twins have been all about power arms for almost a decade, unfortunately they've done a piss-poor job of picking which power arms to pursue.
  25. Yeah. If there was a Strasburg or Harper at the top of the draft, it'd be hard to defend the Twins' strategy. But that wasn't the case and after all is said and done, the Twins' draft looks pretty good.
