  1. I'd honestly rather see the team offer Gibson $20m this year and then $10m for three more years than sign Keuchel.
  2. I've actually liked most of the moves the front office has made, except for one glaring omission... They're literally $30m below what they spent last season and $40m below what they should be spending. So, yes, go pick up those Crons at a bargain. Good for you. Never once have I complained about that type of deal. But what chaps the hell out of me is that, AGAIN, they should have $30m MINIMUM to spend on other free agents. I'm not looking for a Harper here, I'm just looking for a decent ****ing reliever.
  3. No arguments here. I’ve been pretty vocal about how much I’ve disliked this offseason.
  4. Fair enough, you did say the deadline but that doesn't make much sense either... Whatever, it doesn't matter. You did say later and I missed that initially.
  5. Because that's how prospects work. Seriously. I get how maybe Guy X should have been traded in Year Z but that ship has sailed. The Twins have what they have right now and trading either Kepler or Buxton is foolish because the future of the team literally depends on them. If the front office decides to trade a few good prospects TODAY for good players TODAY, I'll be on board with that.
  6. Yep, they’re at the point where you have to bet on them or basically give up entirely.
  7. I think you'd get close to equal value for both right now, which isn't much (probably a bit more for Buxton). A top 100, maybe top 75 prospect for either with maybe a throw-in... I'll roll the dice on both Kepler and Buxton at that price.
  8. Yep. I railed on that design disaster frequently when it was released.
  9. Sure, Perez can bounce back. Great, sure, whatever. The problem is that even if he bounces back, his past ceiling has been "eh, whatever, he won't kill you out there in the fourth or fifth spot". This team has a $100m payroll. So forgive me if I don't get excited about a pitcher "bouncing back" to mediocrity when the team should have literally forty million dollars to go buy some real pitchers. "Working within the margins" only matters if you're working at 100% payroll capacity... not if you have a Tampa Bay Rays-sized hole in your payroll. That's not working within the margins. That's called "being cheap". Again, super-thrilled that my Minneapolis tax dollars have supported this ever-underwhelming attempt at contention.
  10. The history books will not be kind to Gingrich and McConnell.
  11. Fascinating to think about how the party got here over the past three decades. I don't understand how so many fail to see they have become decidedly anti-democratic.
  12. That weather was pretty nuts. Given that I left Minnesota in 1988 and didn't return until 2008, I haven't experienced weather that cold since living in Bemidji in 84 or 85 when it didn't go above zero for a couple of weeks straight and had windchills down into the -90s one morning (roughly -65 or so by today's new calculating standard). It was so cold school didn't start until 10am for something like three weeks because none of the busses could operate (back in the days of the old diesel fuel that would gel up in super cold weather). I forgot just how incredible it is to experience that level of cold, right down to how hard it is to breathe the air for more than a couple of minutes.
  13. Yep. We haven’t villainized Gingrich nearly as much as we should. He made a concentrated effort to consolidate power at the top levels of the party instead of allowing a mix of ideologies, which creates a loosely-woven party platform, which is NECESSARY in a two party system. If you only have two options, you need to have dissent and flexibility in those two options. A California Republican should be as or more liberal than an Alabama Democrat but that’s no longer the case. The lines are stark and consistent across the country. We can bitch and moan all we want about the Dubyas and Trumps of the world but really, history is going to look back at Gingrich and McConnell as two of the most destructive forces in American democracy. They’ve done such damage that Congress has become ineffectual and therefore, we’ve needed to push more and more power to the executive branch just to keep the country partially on the rails. It’s a domino effect that could ultimately break this country.
  14. Ding ding ding.
  15. Best shape of his life, film at eleven.
  16. The NRA has made it pretty clear that lobbying for the rights of black people to own guns only comes into play long after said black person is dead.
  17. People have gone way too far with these kids. Doxxing is wrong 100% of the time. Calls to violence are wrong nearly 100% of the time. People should be ashamed of this behavior. The reason I focus more on the kids (more the teachers, actually) is because I tend to give more attention to those I best understand, those who look like me and were likely raised in an environment similar to mine. And as a white man (or person), we need to do a hell of a lot better job of calling out our own and less time about worrying what the other side is doing. We’re the ones who need to change because we hold real power in this country. Worrying about fringe radicals with no power beyond screaming obscenities on street corners won’t actually change anything because ultimately, they don’t matter.
  18. Nope. Nice try, though. I’m actually pretty conflicted about this situation and strongly disagree with a few friends of color about the Israelites (I refuse to give them a pass on this one). My worldview is pretty constantly in flux and you know that, which is why I’m rolling my eyes at you right now. I have my biases, just like everyone else, but I challenge them on a pretty regular basis. Can you say the same about people who wear MAGA hats to a Native American demonstration? I look at the situation and what stands out the most is the failure of the teachers to actually take advantage of a teaching moment. To allow a bunch of MAGA kids to stand up to a Native American man during a demonstration speaks volumes about their character. Should the kids have known better? Probably. But if the teachers stood back and let that happen, we shouldn’t be the least bit surprised why those kids thought that behavior was okay.
  19. No excuses for the behavior of the Black Israelites - from the research I've done, they're pretty awful, to be honest - but if you're proudly stomping around town wearing MAGA hats and come across various protests/demonstrations by people of color, that in itself is a mild instigation. And the ADULTS around those kids should have known better. While the kids may not be entirely at fault here, I think this is a good example of "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" and an example of how these kind of (maybe sorta crappy) kids turn into truly crappy adults through insulation, arrogance, and lack of repercussions for their actions. When the kids started chanting and pretty openly mocking the native American(s), that's when I stopped caring about who started it and (once again) just became embarrassed for white Americans and their continued tone deafness to anything that doesn't fit into their nice little box of a worldview.
  20. And that's fair. I still want a reliever either way but would feel better with extensions to various players, primarily if the team front-loads those contracts and spends the money TODAY so they have more money TOMORROW. If you can lock down a couple of players cheaply through 2022-23, that possibly extends the bridge of legitimate contention for another few years as those extended players are joined by the next wave of Kirilloff, Lewis, Thorpe, etc.
  21. Pretty much any combination of Buxton, Gibson, Berrios, Sano, Rosario, Kepler if the terms are in line with performance. I’d target Gibson and/or Berrios first but I’m generally in favor of several extensions (though the terms for Buxton or Sano probably don’t make sense for either side right now).
  22. The thing is that I really had zero complaints about last off-season. Maybe it wasn’t the route I would have taken but it was a legitimate attempt to win on a relative budget. I’m not asking for much here. One good freakin’ reliever and I’d be happy enough. I can even pass on a starter because I think there’s enough upside to be found in their current mix that I’m willing to gamble on it. The one way they can “save” this offseason is by going extension-crazy.
  23. Indeed it is. Hedging against extra wins in case you don’t get as many wins as you’d hoped. Sounds like a pretty good way to prevent wins.
