  1. You know, Gonzalez' arm is really underrated.
  2. Start running from bears They're coming today They're going to overrun your town Eau Claire, Eau Claire...
  3. Dammmmmnnnn Perez got a little swagger back from that triple play.
  4. Now would be a good time to purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.
  5. He’s been playing SO MUCH better but when it comes to PAs like that one, when the count gets to 2-2 it’s pretty easy to predict what happens next.
  6. My vote is that you stay there until Wednesday evening.
  7. I’m not so sure the 2019 Twins are terribly intimidated by the Yankees.
  8. That’s fair. There’s a difference between “paper thin” and “Rogers, then a bunch of guys you don’t mind pitching the sixth”.
  9. This is the problem that arises when your bullpen is paper-thin. Baldelli is stuck relying on May to come into games with a higher leverage than you want a guy like May to pitch in. He's a decent sixth inning guy but I don't want him pitching the seventh or later in close games. Because he just ain't that good. And pitchers that ain't that good tend to spectacularly implode from time to time. May is the easy scapegoat right now but it's not his fault the team has failed to put 2-3 more good relievers in front of him to pitch higher leverage innings.
  10. I have a hard time being too angry at May when he was left out for 50 pitches, which is on Baldelli. And the fact that Baldelli felt pressured to do that to May is on the front office. Look upward a bit with the blame.
  11. And I'm sure this has been covered in previous posts but Gibson started the season ~20 lbs underweight because of E.Coli. You can see a pretty clear trajectory of his starts versus Odorizzi (and I'm not claiming sides here but Gibson has been solid, not great, while Odo was great and then... not so good).
  12. Yep. But frankly it doesn't matter whether Berrios is wrong (he is), it's about perception on the field.
  13. Sure. If they literally had another warm body that Baldelli has even an ounce of confidence in their ability to get outs, go ahead and put May on the IL.
  14. I hope the text to the front office isn't terribly polite. I think Rocco is a pretty mellow dude but this is the time to step up and be firm that help is needed and it was needed a month ago. That doesn't mean he needs to be an ass about it, but he should be pretty adamant about what he needs and when he needs it (yesterday).
  15. It's a real concern. Ryan may have been out of touch with modern baseball but he was so highly respected around the league and with his own players (most of the time). The front office can't afford to start creating rifts with players like Berrios.
  16. I'm all for fun, close games but I don't find a lot of enjoyment from watching the bullpen blow leads. For example, I thought the Mets game where they came *this close* to winning but failed to pull it off was fun. Watching a lead be chipped away for six innings until it requires last-minute heroics is not a fun time, particularly two nights in a row (minus the last-minute heroics last night). Fix it, Falvine.
  17. It’s not that I don’t want deGrom, I’m just concerned about his pay, age, and potential prospect cost (I jumped into the conversation to protest the fact that some are willing to basically loot the farm for the honor of paying a 30-something pitcher ~$30m a year for several years). deGrom is a very good pitcher but I’m not sure he’s worth what some are willing to give for him.
  18. I'm aware how each metric calculates its value, I happen to prefer fWAR. But using a sum total doesn't really tell the story here because it ignores that deGrom had one massive outlier year. By year: deGrom: 4.8, 2.9, 4.1, 9.0 He basically had a bunch of Greinke relative down years mixed with one Kershaw year. When predicting future performance, I'm going to mostly discard that single Kershaw year and focus on the very-good-but-not-great other years, especially because he has returned to approximately the same pitcher this season. Compare to Chris Sale: 5.6, 5.4, 7.5, 6.2 Sure, the net total is similar but when predicting future performance, that stability of Sale is far more alluring. He's legitimately one of the best pitchers in baseball on a yearly basis.
  19. Did it have spicy mustard? Because, if not, you cost the Twins a run. New metric: DTFCTTARTSM. Did Tom Froeming Cost The Twins A Run Through Spicy Mustard
  20. This is not a zero sum game. You can commend them on one hand while criticizing on the other.
  21. In case anyone hasn’t noticed, Taylor Rogers is really good at baseball. What he’s doing as a lefty is extraordinary.
  22. I don’t think there’s a trade in place, only that the front office is now clearing the deck for both trades in general and the players they want to add internally for the second half.
  23. i don’t let the state tell me whether I’m dad or not. But also, thank you!
