If it's about assets to improve the future of your club, wouldn't the top ranked minor league system provide plenty of assets whereby to do that?

 

I read into it that it's the flexibility to move major league assets in trade. It's the only non-redundant explanation IMO.

 

Though I'd argue that Gardner, Nova, Cano (depending on when you are looking at this), Robertson, Granderson, Kuroda, Hughes, and Logan all represent movable and potentially valuable trade chips. I'd say that's a good deal more than us in terms of value.
