Because Ryan will get to keep his job based on how these players do......so if the best players (just an example) were not brought in under him, then I'd prefer he not keep his job. He needs to be judged on wheter or not the team produces players....and if they were actually brought in under someone else's leadership, I'd prefer he be judged on his time as a leader.......

 

and, just like being a fan of a team at all is irrational, so is my belief that people actually be judged on what they did, not what others did, and I agree with Brock, it is about leadership, not which individual scout did what.......

 

Well he's only been back for a little bit but under him we brought in Meyer, May, Stewart, Eades, Gonzales, Berrios. That's fairly solid pitching depth. And Buxton of course. And he traded Butera for Suliman. That's not bad.

 

And Ryan has so much job security based on his track record I don't think you have to worry about him getting more b/c Sano happens to be good.

I admitted it was not rational.....taking birdwatcher's advice, I give the GM very little credit for the draft other than if he changes scouts if it isn't working.....I liked the theory of the May/Meyer deals, I admitted at the time I did not know if they were the right targets. the Butera trade is a great trade, agreed.

I think it is much more effective to think of "Terry Ryan" as a shorthand for the Twins organization.

 

He will ultimately keep his job based on wins and losses at the major league level.

 

Also, bringing in talent is only part of the equation, along with development. Does Terry Ryan deserve any credit for bringing in a new minor league instructor or new coaches/instructors? The minors are unquestionably in a better position than two years ago, both in ranking and health/performance of the affiliates.

This is a great point. And I don't think he needs additional praise because of this. He had a good reputation and respect across the game already, he gives plenty of praise to those under him.

 

I would go so far as to suggest he probably doesn't care about this all that much while the major league team is in such a bad position.

Im thrilled our farm has potential. Im not tricked into being more thrilled because some New York Jets fan declared them a 2015 dynasty. That's more than just a bit presumptive.

My other question is why do you care that Ryan gets credit?

 

My initial thought is that Ryan wouldn't have signed Sano. I don't think he has ever gone that big internationally before.

 

Of course, the international risk-averse Ryan also wouldn't have signed Nishioka, so there's that. But then again, he probably wouldn't have signed anyone for more than a token bonus...
