Playing Rule forces Double Header

Both Chicago and Minnesota have an off day today, but the rule preventing teams from playing more than 20 days in a row forces them to play a D/H tomorrow.

Yesterday was the White Sox's 20th straight game.

Due to the make-up game with the Met's on 8/19, the Twins' won't have a day off until 8/26. Which implies if the played the game today, the Twins' would have a stretch of 27 games without a day off.

I understand the reason for the rule, but they should allow exceptions for make up games. What is more wearing to the players, playing 2 games in 1 day or playing 27-30 days without an off day?

Over the long hall, you can give players rest as needed but you can't really do that with a Doubleheader.

I would rather play a doubleheader in one day and get a day off here and there than play 30 or 40 straight days, I think they should have more doubleheaders during season and more days off(preferable back to back doubleheaders, not day night, that part defeats the purpose.)

Yeah, I too think there should be more double headers along with shortening the season to 154 games. Maybe you play a double header 2 days out of the month? I think it would be good for the sport.

That's a tough call. 27 consecutive game days is pretty brutal, I'm sorry. I know these guys make craptons of money and blah blah blah, but they are still human beings with lives and families. And of course there's the whole wear and tear issue.

I kind of agree with Spirit above about more double headers, except that's really rough on the bullpen. If your starter gets punted in the 3rd inning or something, you're going to burn up most of your pen in the first game. I think some managers have used relief pitchers in both games of a doubleheader, which blows my mind.

Back when they used to play more doubleheaders, I feel like starting pitchers stayed in much longer, also. The "26th man" special rule at least helps.

Yeah, I would like it since you would have to use strategy a bit more (and have that 6th starter be important throughout the season)

The baseball season is to damn long at this point, chop a week off the beginning and a week off the end.
