Minnesota Twins Should Not Extend Justin Morneau's Contract

I looked at why extending Morneau's contract would be a mistake after Darren Wolfson quoted a source that the Twins would talk to Morneau about this.

This might just be a courtesy by the Twins for the popular home-grown player. It also might just be purely idle speculation by Wolfson's source. However, if the Twins truly are thinking about extending Morneau, they need to think again.

You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins Should Not Extend Justin Morneau's Contract at Yahoo! Sports.

Should the Twins extend Morneau or should they just trade him for whatever they can get?

Can't get your link to work in either Firefox or IE10.

Anyway, if the price is right, yes, the Twins should extend Morneau's contract. Something like $16M over 2 years would be about right.

I don't see Parmelee as his replacement, so if you don't sign him, who's going to play first base?

I believe two years at $8-10 million would be acceptable. We are going to need some veterans around when the kids come up. I agree Collabello deserves a shot, but he is a Guy who can play 1b, OF and DH.

After Justin's last contract is off along with Blackburn, that's $18 million, using half of that on Justin still leaves plenty of room

There's more than that coming off the books

And there was more room anyway. It is just not being used.

The decision on Morneau better 100% be based on 25-man roster management and not money. There is plenty of money.

We have 35-50 mil to spend next off-season, giving Morneau 6-8 mil to at least shore up 1st base as a stop gap for a year or two isn't a bad idea. Plus, this team and lineup are going to get really young really quick, doesn't hurt to have a couple veterans in Mauer and Morneau around.

I'm no longer so sure about that. Mauer is going to be around so the young guys will have his professionalism to lead them but I really don't know if they are getting the leadership they need from Morneau.

And I still have questions about the clubhouse and whether they need some other personality types in there to lighten things up when things are in a skid.

I've always been a big Morneau fan but I just don't see him as the same player. I think maybe a change of scenery would be good for him AND the team.

I agree that 6-8 million a year would work. If he wants more trade him or let him walk. Parmelee is not the answer, 2 years of Morneau would really help.
