  1. How does that 2012 draft look right now? Buxton in the first round, second overall, Berrios was a supplemental first-round pick, 32nd overall, Duffey was in the fifth round and Rogers was in the 11th round. Has any team ever taken an MVP and a Cy Young in the draft? Could Buxton, Berrios, and Rogers all be All-Stars together? Berrios has twice been an All-Star. 2012 was the first year the Twins had a high pick after winning so much the previous decade.
  2. The plan might be for Kiriloff to start in AAA and Larnach in AA. Then went Kiriloff gets called up, Larnach gets moved up to AAA. Of course, if the Saints do have Larnach and Kiriloff to start the season, that could be a real hard ticket to purchase early in the season, especially if there's very limited seating.
  3. Shoemaker at best would be a Five and Fly guy. He's not pitched more than 77 innings since 2016, when he pitched a career-high 160 innings.
  4. Since Maeda finished runner-up for the AL Cy Young, this is sort of a little bit of a step back for him.
  5. I'm guessing a lot of prospect lists are going to look very different come midseason since there was no minor leagues last season and I'm guessing it will impact players in many different ways.
  6. I was a sports copy editor for a SoCal newspaper many years ago, and a columnist referred to Angels closer Troy Percival as Max Pervical. That became the running joke in the sports department every time he came in to close a game. "Here comes Max!"
  7. This fills the DH spot and the need for a big bat for the Twins. With Simmons essentially replacing Gonzalez, the only real questions are LF and the utility role vacated by Adrianza. LF could be filled by Kiriloff or a Rooker/Cave platoon if the Twins want to hold off on Kiriloff initially. Do the Twins go with Astudillo for Adrianza's spot or will they let Nick Gordon compete for a utility role? Will LaMonte Wade be competing for a roster spot? My guess is the Twins will sign one more pitcher, most likely a reliever, although they may opt for a starter that will push Dobnak into the bullpen as a long reliever.
  8. Maybe Sano is the hitters equivalent of Bret Saberhagen. He's good every other year. His best OPS+ in an even year is 108. His worst OPS+ in an odd year is 126. Hopefully, he has a much more normal offseason and start to the year, plus he doesn't have to worry about a position switch.
  9. I'm surprised the '05, '06, and '10 Twins all finished ahead of the '01 Twins since they were largely the same defensively as the '02 Twins.
  10. Keith Law has now come out with the "Just Missed" list of 12 players that didn't make the Top 100 and Trevor Larnach is not on that either, so he isn't in Law's top 112 prospects, which really isn't surprising considering where's he's had him ranked in the past. As for Luis Arraez, no one had him ranked in the top 100 because he had to very special at his one skill set, hitting for average and controlling the strike zone, to be of value. He's certainly done that. In fact, he's exceeded projections because he's actually hit slightly better in the majors than in the minors or even winter ball.
  11. And for what it's worth, pre-2020, BA had Larnach ranked 45th overall, MLB had him ranked 81st and BP had him ranked 85th, so Law definitely had him ranked lower than pretty much anyone else.
  12. Law had Larnach ranked 7th in the Twins organization last year just behind Cavaco. Here's his synopsis:
  13. Escobar went from a 102 OPS+ to a 104 OPS+ and is most improved? Hicks went from 76 to 96. I think you've got to give it to him. Or maybe going off the board and give it to Gibson, who went from an 87 ERA+ to a 105.
  14. I looked at the struggles of Kyle Gibson and why he is still with the Twins. You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins: Kyle Gibson Should Stay, Even Though Scott Diamond Was Demoted at Yahoo! Sports. Do you agree that Gibson should remain with the Twins? Should Diamond also be in the majors?
  15. I looked at why Diamond and Hicks were demoted and what to expect from Arcia and (hopefully) Andrew Albers. You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins: Demotions of Scott Diamond, Aaron Hicks Were Overdue at Yahoo! Sports. Should the Twins have demoted Hicks after just a three-week slump? Was Butera traded just to make room on the 40-man for Albers?
  16. I looked at the Twins' history of in-season trades when they have been sellers. You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins Do Little at Trade Deadline to No One's Surprise at Yahoo! Sports. Should the Twins have traded Morneau no matter how little was offered? Will August be a better time to make deals?
  17. I looked at how the Twins' pitching has improved in recent games. You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins Showing Improvement in Pitching at Yahoo! Sports. Is this a SSS fluke or a real improvement?
  18. I looked at what led to Sano's benching and the future relationship between Sano and the Twins. You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins: Miguel Sano's Home-Run Trot Leads to Week-Long Saga at Yahoo! Sports. Was the benching excessive? Are you concerned about Sano's attitudes? Is this much ado about nothing?
  19. I looked at the infield fly rule that wasn't called, including the fact the crew chief told the Pioneer Press that he was looking for something that isn't in the rulebook. Also, Frieri threw to the wrong base and the Twins didn't take advantage. Read more about all the mistakes made by everyone involved in Minnesota Twins: Umpires Get it Wrong Along with Everyone Else at Yahoo! Sports. Would it have been ordinary effort for Frieri to catch the ball? Should Bernier have known not to run?
  20. I looked at how the Twins complain about starters don't go deep into games and then pull them before throwing 100 pitches far too often. You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins Need to Allow Starters to Go Deeper into Games at Yahoo! Sports. Are the Twins pulling the starters too soon? Do the starters need to be more efficient so they can go deeper?
  21. I looked at how many rare events, or even firsts, occurred in the first two games against the Angels. You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins: Many Rare Events in Wins over Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Yahoo! Sports.
  22. I looked at the futility the Twins have had on Fridays this season. You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins Finally End Bizarre Friday Losing Streak at Yahoo! Sports. Is there any reason behind this streak or is it just a fluke of SSS? Does it mean anything going forward? Are you less likely to go to a Friday game now?
  23. I did a rundown of the rankings just put out by Keith Law, John Sickels and "Baseball America." You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins' Prospects Rank High in Midseason Rankings at Yahoo! Sports. Do you agree with the rankings? Is it too early for Buxton to be the consensus top prospect?
  24. I looked at rumored or likely trade destinations for Justin Morneau. You can read the rest of Minnesota Twins: Top Destinations for Justin Morneau at Yahoo! Sports. Will the Twins be offered enough to justify trading Morneau? Are there other teams more likely to make an offer for him?
