TV commentary just laughing, no help. I would assume that Correa is the cut guy there with the arm and Castro would cover but never both of them.

The shortstop should be at second base when the ball is hit to right.

What you saw is a result of Carlos Correa constantly covering for Eddie Julien - god bless Eddie - because Julien doesn't have a sense of what to do. So I'm guessing Carlos temporarily forgot that it was Castro playing second base and went out to take the throw from Wallner because he (Correa) knew there would be a play on Alonso at home,. But Castro took the relay throw. No idea what the communication was during the play.

FWIW, ESPN ranks the Twins 27th in MLB in terms of "watchability."  Seems too high.

Upstate, thanks for the link, I love the rankings and am happy to see that the Twins gained a point due to the Prince Night planned for sometime in June,

I think the Brewers are ranked too high for what should end up to be a mediocre team and season, but time will tell. There's no doubt about the support of their long suffering fans whose unflagging loyalty, almost childlike in its innocence, led to a 40th anniversary celebration of the Brewers' 1982 World Series loss! They invited players back and showered them with praise and, I can't be sure, but I think there might even have been a parade with elderly guys sitting in convertibles and waving to admiring fans.

It occurs to me that, in order to brighten up what seems to be a dismal 2025 season Twins' fans might organize a gala celebration of our World Series loss to the Dodgers. The 60th anniversary of our game #7 loss to Koufax (who pitched a complete game, 3-hitter!) is coming up this October 14th.

Just a thought...

I don't even like to see a Baldelli closeup in the dugout but made myself listen to his post game interview. My brain glazed over. It's like he's not even there. It's like he doesn't have a strong connection to what is happening with the team.

T.O., yes, it's like he's coming at us from some alternate reality one might have seen on the original tv Star Trek.

They’ve talked in the past that Correa is the designated cut guy regardless of who else is on the field.  He’s been the cut on the right field line because of the arm.  It makes sense and their cut rotations are different because of it.  No idea if it’s still this way with his feet but on an easy one like that he needs to be receiving the throw.  He took a pop up at deep second from Castro in this game.

No idea what play was on so no telling what the actual screw up was but it certainly fits in with everything else little league.

Nobody says anything if Willie doesn’t randomly peg the guy on second though.

Carlos certainly has the arm to be the cutoff guy and I don't have a problem necessarily with the way the Twins do it as long as it works, but ideally the second baseman should have a strong arm, too. Castro should have wheeled and thrown home. I think the runner would have been out. Instead, we got what we got.
