DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 Did the Braves just fire the Twins next batting coach in Keven Seitzer? Look, in the world of MLB, managers and coaches, even successful ones, are generally hired only until the day they are fired. Baseball history is FILLED with quality men who either "fail" at first and find success in their next opportunity, or, have success until they "wear out their welcome" at some point and a team makes a change. Seitzer has had a long and largely successful ML coach to this point. He's been with the Braves for 10 years until recently being let go. While the Braves offense has generally been good, to very good over the majority of his tenure there, it was down quite a bit in 2024. But they also endured a number of injuries throughout the course of the past year, including losing Acuna after May. Yes, good players help make an offense work well, and can make a batting coach look good. But then again, a batting coach is in charge of making sure those good players reach their potential. The Braves lead MLB overall in offense in 2023. Did Seitzer, after 10 years, suddenly forget to coach? Are injuries the primary reason for a down year and after a decade the Braves simply want a new voice? I'm sure the Twins FO will look at many options to fill the hitting coach position. And it's an important hire to get the offense more consistent, as well as nurturing the young bats on the roster currently, and coming up. But did the Braves just hand the Twins the opportunity to add the best available hitting coach available? Your thoughts? glunn 1
