The NCAA just approved increasing the number of baseball scholarships per team from 11.7 to 34 for the 2025-26 season. This means the whole roster of D1 and D2 baseball players will be able to get a full scholarship. No more 1/2 or 1/4 scholarships for position players. This will provide more disincentive for drafted high school players to sign MLB contracts and it may be more difficult to get juniors to sign as well.

It will be interesting to see how this ripples out several years later, especially if there is a draft established for international players.

This is coming with a roster limit of 34 (some teams carry 40 players now). Also, some schools are probably not going to be able to fully fund 34 spots (which will give an advantage to the teams that can).

Sources believe that almost all of the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 institutions will fund the full number of scholarships in baseball. There’s more uncertainty on where the majority of the Big Ten stands on this issue, while the Sun Belt, one of the rising power conferences in college baseball, is a league that is expected to do all it can to offer the amount needed to compete against the SEC and ACC.

I imagine USC and UCLA will fund the full number of baseball scholarships. Not sure about Rutgers or Northwestern.
