Worst collective batting average in the past 50 years

I'm curious if there is a comparison for ANY 17 game stretch for any season of the last 50 years? Why do the first 17 games feel like it means more, when a 17 game stretch in June not as much?

Not defending the Twins here. It's been atrocious at the plate. But there have to be worse 17 game stretches during a season, right?

I'm sure there have been bad or worse stretches - but frankly the beginning of the season is traditionally when averages are lowest so I'd be hard pressed to think there are tons of examples out there. 

I'd also be willing to guess that any team who has suffered a similar 17 game stretch (whether it be early in the season or not) sure as heck didn't make the playoffs.

Record wise, 6-11 is exactly how the 1991 Twins started. But yeah, the offense just isn't there right now.
