Correia 'threw the ball fantastic'

Also if the best we can do to explain these comments is to say Gardy is basically on autopilot for how he talks about players isn't that a major indictment of him at this point? I am in the camp that doesn't put a ton of tack into manger impact but I am a strong believer that the human element is critical to success and managing personalities is critical to that. So I guess I'm not satisfied with dismissing comments as irrelevant due to oing through the motions.

Not at all, but your expectations should be (and it's a Twins meme even!) consistent. It's backwards to coddle veterans and be harsh on rookies publicly. In fact, I'd argue it's a rather cowardly form of management based on power.

I'd rather the manager publicly be nothing but token cliches than this. (Probably in the minority on that) I'd appreciate honesty, but I'd like it to be consistent and fair honesty. I don't understand how some on this board can't see that there are significantly better strategies to public comments and they don't require back flips, law degrees, or once-in-a-lifetime public speaking skills. It's relatively foundational stuff.

Frankly, this is far more speculation than I am engaging in. You may be right, but it's total speculation. I'm not speculating about age or minimal talent, just to make that distinction clear.

This is just idle speculation on my part, as I may as dumb of doofus as the rest here on how the manager operates, but not unreasonable. Any good manager would talk to the subordinates about performances good and bad. Coaching and correcting the mistakes is their job. The second part of the equation is that part of their job is entertainment. They perform in public. So they have media to talk to. When first year or developing players make the same mistakes over and over when more was expected, the manager brings it up to the media in hopes if they hear it from somewhere else the player might finally pay attention. Some veteran player, mostly pitchers, have gotten the treatment. Stars of course wouldn't be in the situation. Mediocre vetrans, they know what they have and it is not going to change. (Doo-doo with deoderizer on it is still doo-doo)

I would agree, but I see these comments and others as deoderizers. Kevin Correia doesn't wake up tomorrow giddy to hear his manager has his back or that he feels appreciated. Now Hicks or Dozier after their games? Maybe they would. (And I'm not sure, maybe Gardy did that. I hope he did.)

The issue regarding Correia has more to do with the rest of the Twins staff than it has to do with Correia IMO. Same goes for Scott Diamond in a lot of ways. The Twins have constructed a staff that asks Correia and Diamond to be 1 and 2 SPs while in reality, they are 3, 4 or 5 SPs at best. If you have a staff with Diamond and Correia as the 4 and 5 SPs, you would be very happy with the results. However, with our staff, we judge them differently and unfairly IMO.
